Course Description

Alexa, Siri, Cortana and Google Now - voice-activated personal assistants are one of the hottest trends in technology these days. They are a great way to convey complex information to your customers in a free-flowing, conversational way. Alexa is a great way to build them - an AWS service for building conversational interfaces for Echo, FireTV and a host of Alexa-aware devices.

  • Alexa and Lex are state-of-the-art, with support for new devices being added all the time
  • Powered by a deep learning based engine that parses user voice and resolves the contents of user utterances to API calls and parameter values
  • No deep learning or natural language processing expertise is needed to build even complex voice and chat apps
  • Provides an intuitive way of specifying the conversational interface
  • Automatically and dynamically adjusts conversational responses
  • Easy to build, test and publish app

In the sections on Alexa we will cover:

  • The big picture - voice and text interfaces and current trends in human-computer interaction
  • How Alexa, Lex, Echo and the other bits of the Amazon ecosystem come together
  • Interaction models: Utterances, intents, slots, prompts and their resolution into API calls
  • Fulfilment models: Using AWS Lambdas to fulfil user intents, and how AWS lambdas provide smooth, no-ops, auto-scaling code endpoints

In the sections on Lex we will cover:

  • Interaction models: Utterances, intents, slots, prompts and their resolution into API calls
  • Fulfilment models: Using AWS Lambdas to fulfil user intents, and how AWS lambdas provide smooth, no-ops, auto-scaling code endpoints
  • Third-party integration: How a chatbot can be added to your Slack workspace

This course is, unfortunately, very outdated. I still give a 4 star rating because I commend the instructor for building this course at all; but, I cannot recommend using this resource to learn to build Lex application.

Me parece muy completo el curso para el época cuando recién esta comenzando a surgir sobre todo Lex en AWS.

The Alexa and Lex are now very old in tutorial and code is also not working for Lex. It requires an update. I liked the introduction to integrate the Lex with Slack

By Priyanka Reddy on 11/21/2018

I liked the Q&A way the educator adapted throughout the videos. Good material.

Good as a basic introductory course, very clear explanation and easy to follow approach. However, I didn't liked the repetitiveness, felt like dragging. Also disappointed by the instructor left very important topics like Response cards in lex, home automation skills in alexa. Those are almost basic skills for me, which I was hoping. You can always write a pizza ordering skill by following amazon and other example online. For example even the other course on Udemy about chatbots deals with Response cards.

Fantastic. I could not pause the course once started and it is so engaging.

The course was very interesting. I really enjoyed the last part (configuration of amazon lex and slack)

By Zoran Zlatanov on 1/5/2018

So far I like the content that this course provides and all detailed explanations. Noticed only one part where the 'cards' are mentioned in the JSON structure when building the speech response, and here if a user does not have an Echo device wouldn't know what the hell are we referring to. It would be nice to have some screenshot for the user to actually see how this looks like when logging in on https://alexa.amazon.com. The only reason I have put 4.5 stars and not 5 is the not enough clear English speaking of the teacher/presenter.

Great course for getting a walk through of how to build different types of Alexa Skills. The detailed explanations of the steps and the code walkthroughs were nicely done and was just what I needed to get started with Skill building. Also, since this course was recently published; the AWS screen shots were in line with the way the developer portal works today (October 2017).

The best introductory Alexa tutorials I've found, including those made available by Amazon, for the less experienced programmer. Really nice work!
