Course Description

Taught by a team which includes 2 Stanford-educated, ex-Googlers  and 2 ex-Flipkart Lead Analysts. This team has decades of practical experience in working with large-scale data processing.

Has your data gotten huge, unwieldy and hard to manage with a traditional database? Is your data unstructured with an expanding list of attributes? Do you want to ensure your data is always available even with server crashes? Look beyond Hadoop - the Cassandra distributed database is the solution to your problems.

Let's parse that.

  • Huge, unwieldy data: This course helps your set up a cluster with multiple nodes to distribute data across machines
  • Unstructured: Cassandra is a columnar store. There are no empty cells or space wasted when you store data with variable and expanding attributes
  • Always available: Cassandra uses partitioning and replication to ensure that your data is available even when nodes in a cluster go down

What's included in this course:

  •  The Cassandra Cluster Manager (CCM) to set up and manage your cluster
  •  The Cassandra Query Language (CQL) to create keyspaces, column families, perform CRUD operations on column families and other administrative tasks
  • Designing primary keys and secondary indexes, partitioning and clustering keys
  • Restrictions on queries based on primary and secondary key design
  • Tunable consistency using quorum and local quorum. Read and write consistency in a node
  • Architecture and Storage components: Commit Log, MemTable, SSTables, Bloom Filters, Index File, Summary File and Data File
  • A real world project: A Miniature Catalog Management System using the Cassandra Java driver

Course was very complicated Installation of Cassandra Cluster Manager on my Windows 10 PC would not work - I had lots of dependency issues, and finally had to just use a single Cassandra instance on my PC The PDF files helped reinforce the information from the course videos, but simply power point presentations used in the videos. More text to explain the presentations would be better.

This is a very simple and complete course with detailed explained systematically. I would recommend this course to anyone who looking to understand Cassandra. Bonus you will also get a very detailed lecture about how to program with Java for Cassandra

Excellent course for those who wants to learn Cassandra from scratch. The subject coverage is very good. The course pace is perfect. Appropriate comparison (both similarity and differences) with RDBMS is provided. I loved this course. But it looks like course coordinators are no longer monitoring the questions posted by audiences. I see 42/56 questions unanswered.

The course is globally interesting but I would made the following remarks to trainers: - Course is not updated with last recent major versions of Casssandra and since the course publication (seems to be 2016) some more options have been included or deprecated in Cassandra - The order of the chapters of this course seems not being always logic - we spoke of deep Cassandra architecture and of the Gossip protocol only at the end in last chapter whereas the introduction started to speak of global architecture (I asked myself a lot of questions that have been answered only at the last before end chapter, or explanations are not always where they should be in the course, and they lack sometimes of precision - trainer installs a product called 'ccm' but nothing is said how to proceed in the real production world with Cassandra - it's said 'CCM' is not designed for production - Very few things are said about licensing and DataStax and that's pity - In my opinion the last chapter has no interest (Java oriented with Cassandra) for the person who intend to learn Cassandra. I jumped completely this last section having very few interests to me - Few things about security with Cassandra - Good explanations of creating CQL queries for where clauses. Finally the application design drives the CQL query design... Although all of these remarks as a Cassandra beginner and from a RDBMS expert, the course was interesting and I learnt some good stuff about Cassandra. Thank you !

This course has been structured very well to have exact understanding of how cassandra works . Each and every thing is crystal clear . I would like to request course creators to add below sections : 1. Add some practical examples for how to exactly model the data in cassandra so that students can have good understanding of data modelling. 2. Add section for production like cassandra cluster setup and some test cases to be checked with it .

It was an amazing experience. People in this course know what Cassandra database is and have 5 hours of videos explaining to you with the BEST way. After that you will find yourself understanding completely the last 1hour of java code and use this code for your own project. Simply great job!!

The content is good and is also explained well. But the course needs few improvements: 1. Speed is very slow, had to watch videos at 1.25x speed. 2. Presentations does not look professional and use of effects distract. 3. Concepts could have been explained with better examples and diagrams.

Loonycorn always come up with quality courses. the instructors are highly experienced and have the knack for demystifying complex concepts. would have liked details on windows-centric set up for cassandra cluster management.

By Anjaneyulu Kudikala on 7/22/2018

Course is good. The thing is engagement with student is lacking. Need more attention with students. Need to ans for student questions. What instructor is doing I dont understand. No responses for any student. Clarification required from instructor. Need more support. Super disappointed with Instructor. Need more interaction with students. Then this course will become more powerful. Reading or listening videos will not help always.

This is a great course ending with a good project. The only thing that I would have love to see is little quizzes to test our knowledge as we move from one section to another.
