Course Description

This course shows you how to get started creating native, cross platform apps using Xamarin Mono. This course is designed for users that are familiar with C#, although no experience with Xamarin Mono is required. You will start by learning about the cross platform development options and the basics of Xamarin Mono, including the development environment and Xamarin Studio. From there, expert Keith Welch will teach you about the various layouts and controls, including stack layout, content and scroll view, and label and entry. This video tutorial also covers basic user interface elements, as well as more advanced controls, such as table views, list views, maps, and web views. You will also learn about page types, tabs and grids, and local and remote data. Finally, you will learn about device features, including the camera, photo gallery, messaging, and phone. Once you have completed this computer based training course, you will be fully capable of using the Xamarin framework to create code that will work in both iOS and Android.

Old Information regarding Xamarin

By Shane May on 3/1/2017

So far this course seems to be mentioning technology that is pretty old. I'm starting to worry that the content in this course is too old to replicate on my mac in 2017, but I shall see.

No "side by side" tipping code... Everything else is great!

I really liked the course. It's straight to the code, just like I wanted to learn.

nice voice to explanation.

There is no learning here, its just here are some examples, (that are mostly directly taken from the Xamarin website) now read these examples and i will read each line. He doesn't describe what the things do, he doesn't describe anything above and beyond the example. There is no "Now that you've seen something similar, try something yourself". Its literally just, here is the code samples I took from somewhere else, enjoy. In most cases (if not all) the code samples aren't even up to date anymore. After taking this course, you will basically learn nothing and still result to the xamarin forums for all your answers.

I was excited for this course at first, i've been wanting to learn how to use xamarin forms, however the results of this class were disappointing. First, the instructor apparently doesn't care about the quality of his class at all. Some of the video's were out of date, and required extensive use of the xamarin forms own documentation and forms to get the samples he shows in the video's to work. Second when questions are asked in the class discussion board instead of commenting or even responding to students they are left (my questions has been sitting for over a week without a single reply). I not a new developer, i've been doing web programing for 10+ years and have 4 years experience in c++. This course was a disappointment coming from such a prestigious name in the coding world. O'Rieilly has really gone down hill with this one.
