Become a multicast expert with full hands-on lab exercises included.

Our take

Based on the ratings of 349 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is a focused multicast course for Cisco routers and switches, taught by Neil Anderson. It runs about 6.6 hours across 30 lectures, and most of that time sits in one main section of 18 lectures. The syllabus shows a short setup section on labs and Anki flashcards, then the theory, then lab exercises you build in CML, GNS3 or EVE-NG. It assumes CCNA knowledge, so it is aimed at working engineers, not newcomers to networking.

Reviewers are warm about the teaching. They describe the explanations as clear and easy to follow, and several say the lab demos helped concepts click. Some are returning students, one on a third course with the same instructor, and one reviewer who found multicast complicated said the course helped them understand it. The complaints are narrow. One reviewer gives three stars because Anycast RP was skipped and Bidir PIM, including Phantom RP redundancy, was not fully explained. Another asks for more on high availability and load balancing. One student reported videos that would not play in several browsers.

Of 349 ratings, 265 are five stars and only four are two stars or below. The course was refreshed in September 2026. With 2,822 students it is a small, specialist course, not a mass-market one, and it is inexpensive for the topic. The course description says every Q&A question gets an answer, which matters on a subject this fiddly. If you already know CCNA material and want solid multicast fundamentals plus practice, it is a good fit. Look elsewhere for advanced design topics.

Best forCCNA-level engineers who want PIM, RP and multicast troubleshooting explained clearly, with labs they can run on a laptop.
Skip it ifYou need Anycast RP, Phantom RP or high-availability designs covered in depth, or you have no CCNA background yet.

Pros

  • Reviewers call the explanations clear and easy to follow, even on a topic one student found complicated
  • Lab demos and CML exercises get repeated praise for making the theory stick
  • Over 100 pages of lab exercises with answers, plus slides in study notes format
  • Updated September 2026, and the instructor says he answers every Q&A question

Cons

  • Skips Anycast RP, and Bidir PIM and Phantom RP get thin treatment, per one reviewer
  • Assumes CCNA knowledge, so it is not a starting point for networking newcomers
  • At least one student reported videos that would not play in several browsers
Everything is well explained and easy to understand. Lab demos are really helpful for understanding topics.
Pero Buden, a student

Listed for all levels, but the requirements expect CCNA knowledge and a lab tool such as CML, GNS3 or EVE-NG.

I’m a professional instructor who has been entrusted by Cisco since 2007 to develop and deliver training courses for their own engineers and partners. I’ve also designed multiple training courses for the largest service providers in the Asia Pacific region such as IBM, Verizon, and the Australian National Broadband Network. I’ve spent years distilling my decades’ worth of networking experience from the field into mentoring and supporting other systems engineers, and I’m passionate about passing my knowledge of Cisco networks onto others.

As a student in this course, you’ll get lifetime access to the course materials and answers to every question you ask in the Q&A board. I love interacting with my students: anything you want to know, please ask.

Instructor Details

Neil Anderson

Hi, I'm Neil Anderson, and my mission is to build the best Cloud and Data Center systems engineers possible.

I dropped out of school with no qualifications or future plans at the age of 15. When I got a little bit older and wiser I realised I should make a career for myself so I pulled myself up by learning about IT technologies through books and online resources. It’s my passion now to help you do the same.

You know how some instructors seem to get a kick out of making things complicated to make themselves look smarter than you? I love to make things as easy to understand as possible and seeing you get that lightbulb moment.

I'm proud of my 'Top Responder' tag on Udemy and unless I'm on an international flight I'll personally answer your questions within 24 hours. I genuinely care about giving you the best experience possible, both in the quality of my training and in ongoing support.

Nothing makes me feel better than hearing back from students who I've helped move on to the next level in their career. It gives me huge satisfaction to know I've played a part in you achieving your goals.

By Kelvin Lewis on 5/16/2025

The content is great but there are multiple videos that will not play for me. I've tried multiple browsers and the result is still the same.

By Demetrius Johnson on 1/18/2025

This course is the best I've seen in explaining Multicast straightforwardly and clearly explained in detail. Awesome Job.

By Roman Guazo on 8/27/2024

Excelente, me ayudo mucho a comprender Multicast, era un tema que se me hacia muy complicado pero con este curso pude adentrarme y conocer bien este topico. Recomendado.

By Jose Ignacio Ocariz on 4/7/2024

This course has fulfilled my expectations in every aspect. First and foremost, I'd like to highlight the clarity and detail with which concepts are explained. The instructor has managed to break down complex topics in a way that is accessible to anyone, even those without prior experience in the field. The videos are well-structured and accompanied by supplementary materials that reinforce understanding of the topics covered. The practical exercises are another standout feature of this course. Not only are they plentiful, but they are also intelligently designed to reinforce the knowledge gained. Additionally, the ability to perform these exercises on alternative platforms like GNS3 adds extra value, as it allows students to apply what they've learned in a practical and realistic environment. In summary, I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning about Multicast.

Mega Kurs! Absolut empfehlenswert. Danke.

By Faisal Khan on 1/4/2024

By Ismail Samah on 11/20/2023

It was informative and detailed but not captivating enough.

By Benedict on 3/23/2023

I have just started going through this training and my hopes are very high. I want to learn multicast and be good with it and I trust Neil to take me to the Promise land.
