Cloud Computing Fundamentals (Udemy.com)

A course describing the basics of cloud computing and most of the aspects related to this topic

Created by: Mohamed Rhim

Last updated May 2021

Our take

Based on the ratings of 17,902 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in May 2021. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is a short, mostly theoretical introduction to cloud computing. The syllabus runs 58 lectures across ten sections, about 2.9 hours in all. It covers IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, public, private and hybrid deployment, migration challenges, and a long stretch on security risks identified by the Cloud Security Alliance. It deliberately avoids AWS or Azure specifics. Instructor Mohamed Rhim is a telecom engineer with CCSK and VMware certifications. It is aimed at people with no background at all.

Reviewers like the clear explanations and the quizzes, and several call it a good first pass for beginners. The most common complaint is the narration. Many mention a heavy accent that is hard to follow, and some say they leaned on the transcripts, which exist in most videos. Others say it feels like someone reading a book aloud, that there is not a single live cloud example, and that section 2 throws around vocabulary newcomers do not know. The closing section on building a private cloud at home gets called too technical.

The content was last updated in May 2021, and one reviewer says it feels dated next to other cloud courses. Still, 64,944 students have taken it and the 17,902 ratings average 4.5, so most people leave satisfied. It is a concept primer, not a route to a job or a certification, and it sits in its category alongside vendor-specific GCP and Azure courses. If hands-on practice is the goal, go straight to a platform course.

Best forBeginners who want the vocabulary and security risks of cloud computing before choosing AWS, Azure or Google.
Skip it ifYou want live cloud examples, labs beyond one home-build lesson, or exam prep for an AWS or Azure certification.

Pros

  • Vendor-neutral tour of IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and public, private and hybrid clouds
  • Seven quizzes help the ideas stick, according to reviewers
  • Sixteen-lecture security section covers the risks the Cloud Security Alliance identified
  • Transcripts in most videos soften the accent problem

Cons

  • Accent and pronunciation are the top complaint, even in four and five star reviews
  • Mostly theory, with no live cloud examples and no coding exercises
  • Last updated May 2021, and one reviewer finds it dated next to other cloud courses
Clear explanations. Just that the last section on building pvt cloud was too technical.
Vinita Bagde, a student

Truly beginner, though reviewers say the section 2 jargon and the home private cloud lab can trip up newcomers.

Course Description

Today we hear about many IT fields which are growing very fast and are the future of our world, Big Data, IoT, Artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and many others,...

All these technologies could not exist or evolve without the presence of Cloud Computing.

We enter the new era of technology where cloud computing will play an important role.

In this course we will start by defining Cloud Computing and its history.

Then we will see the different cloud service models: Iaas, Paas and Saas.

After that we will describe the cloud computing deployment models: Public cloud, Private cloud and hybrid cloud.

Then we will discover the best practices to benefit from Cloud Computing Services.

And we cannot speak about cloud computing without speaking about the challenges you will face if you want to move your infrastructure to cloud.

We will focus on the security of cloud computing and the challenges around it as the security nowadays is very critical aspect and we will see some cybersecurity attacks.

Another important point is what are the strategies to follow to enhance the security of your cloud computing environment.

This course will give you general information about cloud computing without discussing a specific cloud solution like AWS or Azure, but at the same time we will have an idea about the most popular cloud computing solutions and providers.

And we will see how to choose between the various cloud solutions for our business.

And I prepared for you a bonus section in which you will learn how to install your cloud environment at your home in a few steps and in few minutes.

Not always able to understand what he's saying. Would be better if there were more points of importance (similar to the aws practitioner cert)

By LARRY DONALD on 7/6/2026

I have always enjoyed as learning as much as I can about Cloud Computing.

By Cary Ko on 6/25/2026

The Instructor was extremely knowledgeable and I enjoyed the course. The only caveat, from my perspective, was that it was hard to adjust to his accent, so glad a transcript was available on some of the sections.

By Dylano Calvin Miguel Verhoeks on 5/18/2026

It was a vey good course, expect he talks with an accent which sometimes makes it hard for me to understand what he was saying, thankfully there is a transcript in almost every video, so that saved it! Good course!

By Varun Kumar on 5/13/2026

Right now I’m around half way through and so far it has been good and helpful. The only problem I have is that it is quite hard to understand section 2 because it uses vocabulary that beginners like me don’t recognise and concepts that we don’t recognise either.

By Kevin Le on 5/7/2026

good course for take general-understandings about cloud computing

By Ganesh Nivruti Morde on 5/4/2026

The course was amazing and exceeded expectations with clear explanations, engaging sessions, and practical relevance that greatly enhanced my learning experience.

By Anonymized User on 3/13/2026

This course is very helpful for cloud computing fundamentals.

By Paras Verma on 2/25/2026

Pronunciation of Professor in this course is not clear, and while teaching communication plays a key role in it, overall course content and everything in the course is fine according to the cloud computing fundamentals, but yeah it could be better if delivered with more clear pronunciation.
