Course Description

Data is like Energy!

As you probably know, data is everywhere. Data is the energy that drives many business companies and organizations worldwide. If data is like energy, we need a storage container and an engine to store and access this energy, the data. A storing container that will be flexible, fast, reliable, easy to manage, and cost-effective.

Over the last couple of years, the application requirements to store and handle data changed dramatically. There are more data types to manage, higher volumes to operate, and a need to keep the data for a longer retention time.

Database Technologies and DBaaS

As you may guess, the container and the engine for running this energy, the data for the upper layer applications are all about databases. Selecting the right database technology for a specific use case can dramatically affect any aspect of an application. Modern applications are using a variety of database technologies optimized for different use cases.

This training is about databases technologies and, even more specifically, how such technologies are offered as cloud database services (DBaaS) by leading public cloud providers – Azure, AWS, and GCP. We will learn the technical concept, market use cases, advantages, and disadvantages of each database technology while following its evolution path.

Are you ready to explore the world of Database Technologies?

I personally feel that this course was presented very nicely by giving all core concepts on cloud computing technogies like AWS databases and very good explanation on the relation Databases and also No SQL databases..

By Rohan Jacob on 9/10/2025

It was a great introduction to Cloud Computing. I also appreciate that the basic terminology was explained in the start which helped me understand concepts later in the course

By Astha Garg on 9/3/2025

Excellent lay-of-the-land coverage of Databases. Even as an experienced Data Scientist, it was very helpful to understand the ideas behind the different types of databases. The course also goes through why each type was created and this adds great perspective to understanding the soup of database offerings today!

By Gary Gross on 3/6/2025

This was an excellent class. I studied relational databases and distributed databases in the late 1970's in college and have worked in high-volume SQL databases throughout the years. The industry has sure changed, and this class gave an excellent overview of the current state.

By Junyong Wu on 3/3/2025

this is a good course for beginners interested in Cloud computing, but actually I believe there would also be disadvantages using cloud services, but this course does not give an introduction to it or perhaps intentionally ignored it.

By Harriet Downing on 5/18/2024

The material is very well organised and provides a current high level overview of the subject in a manner that non-experts can understand. The teacher's style of delivery is direct and provides the right level of information, with examples and explanation so ensure understanding by the non-specialist.

By Steven Dry on 3/11/2024

Good content so far with clear explanations. The presentation makes the concepts understandable; the advantages and disadvantages of each element are readily apparent thanks to the instructor's explanation.

By Bill Kelly on 6/23/2023

This was a great course to learn of the different types of database options you have to choose from. There are so many and the needs aren't always the same, so this really helped me understand those differences... along with many use cases for each type.

By Reuben Daniel on 2/4/2022

Good introductory course that touches upon all relevant areas related to Databases and its Service offerings. It opens up a path to further learning.

By Udayan Patel on 4/16/2021

The course material is structured well and explained well. The only thing missing is the actual hands-on training for example it would've been very useful to have a section on how to create a basic DB scheme, etc...
