Our take
Based on the ratings of 1,764 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in June 2025. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short, theory-only primer on microservices. The syllabus shows 25 lectures in six sections, about 1.9 hours in total: monolithic applications, what microservices are, the building blocks of a single service, the architecture as a whole, the key benefits, and a summary. Netflix is the case study. There are three quizzes and no coding exercises. It is aimed at developers, architects and managers who need the vocabulary and the reasoning, not the implementation. The listed prerequisite is a basic grasp of cloud models like SaaS, PaaS and IaaS.
Reviewers mostly like how plainly Wonder Ripple explains things. Words like simple, logical and well explained turn up in the praise, and one reviewer says it gives just enough detail to understand the what and why. Roughly 1,500 of the 1,764 ratings are four or five stars. The criticism is mostly about depth. One two-star reviewer expected practical application and found none. Others wanted more on the hard parts, such as data consistency and strategies for handling the challenges. One felt section 5 repeated earlier material, and another found the tone a bit too enthusiastic and theoretical.
At under two hours, it is a cheap way to get the big picture before moving on to hands-on material. It was last updated in June 2025, which is fine for concepts that do not change quickly. Anyone who wants to build services in a specific framework will need a practical course afterward. As a first step for a manager or a developer new to the idea, it does the job. As a way to learn implementation, it does not try to.
Pros
- Plain explanations of monoliths versus microservices that reviewers call clear and logical
- Short enough to finish in an evening: 25 lectures, about 1.9 hours
- Covers building blocks, benefits and challenges, plus a Netflix case study
- Also works as a quick recap for people who already half know the topic
Cons
- No hands-on work: no coding exercises, and one reviewer expected practical application and found none
- Thin on the hard parts, like data consistency and strategies for handling the challenges
- One reviewer found section 5 repeated earlier material, and another thought the tone too enthusiastic
Good course to get introduction to a Microservice Architecture. Not Deep into Development but good enough for an intro to Architecture level.
Beginner fits, but the listed prerequisite is a basic grasp of cloud models like SaaS, PaaS and IaaS.

DATA IS THE NEW GOLD. It is gold for companies that can harness the power of technologies and use it while transforming their business models into the digital age and becoming much more data-driven. It is an amazing journey fueled with new technologies, but we need to remember that data by itself is just one part of the equation.
What about the complex software around it? That is supposed to do something useful with the data. To be able to interface with many data sources, store massive data volumes, provide a great user interface, and automatically analyze, and find useful patterns.
Software is the Engine, and data is the Fuel.
Until recently, many enterprise-level applications were designed, developed, and maintained as one giant monolithic application. With a once in a year software release cycle, maybe two times in a year. Every small update requires building, testing, and deploying all application modules as one package.
Today more than ever, this traditional development approach is not good enough. It is not supporting the required agility of a fast-changing business landscape. Software updates should be released and deployed in weeks, days, and even hours.
MICROSERVICES is a new innovative development style, already being used by companies like Netflix, Facebook, Amazon, and others. Micro-services are the building blocks for creating cloud-native applications, and therefore we will see more companies following this direction.
This training is designed to provide you with a solid theoretical understanding of the micro-services concept.
The challenges with the old-school development style
The industry definition of micro-services and the building blocks of a single micro-service
Then we will be able to move to the macro level and talk about the concept of a microservices architecture
What are the key benefits of this approach?
Review some interesting case studies
Would you like to join the Microservices Revolution?

I liked the method of instruction, the content was understandable. I would have liked a little more discussion about some of the challenges with micro-services running in containers (data consistency, etc). but overall this was a great introduction. Thank you!
By Jacopo Sacerdote on 12/3/2024
A good introduction for a beginner, maybe a bit too enthusiastic and theoretical, but still it leaved me with a decent grasp of the fundamental principals behind microservices architecture.
By Małgorzata Fereniec on 1/2/2024
Great course either as introduction to microservices architecture or as a summary of the gathered previously knowledge. I just love the way of explaining complex topics in this simple way!
By Ayesha Mohammad on 10/9/2022
Thank you so much for the neat and very good explanation. Your explanation of the topics really justifies the course title-"A beginners guide to a Microservices architecture"-Thank you!
By Sriram on 6/10/2020
Thanks for the brief introduction on the Microservices, much appreciated, this could have been a better one if there has been a small demo project that covers the logic that is explained.
By Jose Martin Rangel Espinoza on 4/23/2020
This was a great course, as an introduction, it is spectacularly concise and well explained, I liked it a lot to be able to consolidate knowledge and explain these definitions better in technical interviews since sometimes one as a developer knows how to do things but sometimes it is difficult to explain them elegantly.
By Patrick Demers on 1/31/2020
Overall very clear and well presented course. I found the material became very repetitive in the 2nd half. The course be shortened to one hour, or new material introduced in the second hour (e.g., maybe add more examples in the 2nd half).
By Sreenivas Kaushik on 11/23/2019
Author tried explaining the Micro-services in a very good manner but it could have been cut shorted as the same information is repeated multiple times. Over all its a good course for beginners.
By Slavimir Vesić on 11/23/2019
This course is very good, especially because it's not vendor specific. With that agnostic approach, author explains concepts of architecture very good. Also, personally I find it very usefully notion of CD/CI concepts and how microservices architecture fits there. So this course present basics of microservices architecture in clear way and from high level. It's excellent choice if U are using 90% off. Much of this content is already available on Web, but in this course is composed very good.
By Adrian Wojtasik on 10/13/2019
As a named "Beginner's guide to Microservices..." it's 100% true. As for new into microservices all topics are explained very clear without not necessary "going deeper" while it will come in the next steps. Quick and valuable course.
