Build a REAL Project
We wont just be learning the basics, we will be applying what we know to add awesome site features like: messaging other users, leaving comments, rating projects and so much more.
Why Django?
Scale easily with Django for high traffic websites. This is one of its most popular features. Including built in tools to help you get your site to market fast.
Security is a priority when building any website. Django is used by top brands for this reason. It contains built in security features: SQL injection, cross-site request forgery, and cross-site scripting.
Easily customizable and versatile for any website and company size.
One of Djangos likable features is the community support. You can join forums and Facebook groups for connections and resources.
Django helped me build and sell my first website for $41k
I was searching for a Python framework that would help me build a lab management system (that I then sold to my boss - watch the full story on YouTube: Dennis Ivy - How I Sold My Python/Django Website for $41,000).
I started with Flask, but all it had was a server setup and everything else I would have to figure out on my own.
Then I discovered Django...
It provided me with ALL the tools. Everything from authentication to a templating engine to a great package for a rest API. Added bonus: they have great community support around it and great infrastructure.
I didn't have to worry that it wasn’t scalable,
If it was good enough for YouTube, Spotify, Instagram and all the behemoth of machines, I knew that it would never be an issue for me.
One of the best features about Django is that it has a built in dashboard. You can run one command and already start seeing your data and modify it.
This helped me get the site up and running quicker than expected.

Dennis Ivy
At age 25 Dennis was a lead developer at a forensics laboratory in charge of managing a small team of developers. With an untraditional start to his career, Dennis entered the industry as a full stack developer when he came up with a new idea to learn how to code and then build his idea for a new lab management software which he later sold to the company for over $41,000.
After two years as a lead developer and combined 7 years of freelancing, Dennis started his YouTube channel (Dennis Ivy) to teach others everything he learned as a self taught developer and has courses on Udemy and his own platform.

[I'm making this feedback at 2.9] So far i didn't like that a couple of things wasn't explained, like why using the 'project' as reference works (because that is the name of the url and you can refer to the name as well if my understanding is correct) or in previous video he said that we don't need to know what is in manage.py and so on, without talking too much about the logic of how the system is built around reusing of templates. So these all together makes me need to have conversations with llm while watching. This is maybe fine, i just wanted to give my feedback.

This is a great course for those who want to take their backend skills to the next level. Even when I already have experience with django, the knowledge I got in this course is going to help me for my future webapp and for my Job. I took an Api course before that; they did not teach me how to render the data to the frontend and use the data in the frontend. But, with this course, I learned all of these in just a video. I hope he will continue uploading better courses because he took his time to explain everything and why he made each choice so you can learn and make your own.

It's useful. Though my main issue is that it goes too fast at times, even slowing down and pausing doesn't always help because the part I'm looking for is only a few seconds so it's hard to find.

The course was good and to the point, covering all aspects necessary on the back end side until deployment. There were some issues that are never addressed and I had to look in the Q&A section to better understand what went wrong. The main problem I had it is outdated, and now in 2025 we have AI, and this is not covered here at all

Awesome introductory course to Django. Definitely would recommend. But the only problem with this and any other courses on Udemy are they feel outdated and far too basic!! Yes from the course author perspective there's a lot to consider but this course along with other courses, the knowledge still doesnt feel enough to get a job, per say. Also, as a junior, I dont know if this code is production ready, edge cases to be considered, etc etc... Anyway, loved it. Dennis is how I got into this far in Django. Appreciate the work and effort. Thanks a bunch. Looking forward to more learning.

Very good course to get started with Django - and Django Rest Framework. There were few issues when it came to deployment, but those were easy to fix. Walked through the course without asking any question - as many of the issues are resolved already on lecture Q&A. I am definitely recommending this course 100% - and will be doing other courses by the instructor.

This is definitely one of the better heavy walkthroughs with ample opportunity to practice and apply what you have learned. Presented very clear with good explanations and building progressively upon knowledge acquired in previous sections. It is not only broad, but also focusses on real life issues you will experience often when you set up intermediate complex developments

The best course ro learn. Dennis you really have great content and you know how to teach for you don't withhold any information you have. Loving it so far and please if you don'mind add more contents and the front end part of using mumble UI . Waiting for the next big project in udemy i will definetely buy the package to hear more from you.

I really enjoyed it and feel like I learned a lot, Dennis has explained almost everything that is required to navigate through this course. You would make use of same concepts multiple times. Do make note that At the end of the course you may need to get subscription for s3 bucket for media files when deploying. That requires credit card for free AWS 1 year usage or additional 5$/month subscription from other Services.

It was good to have a full end to end deployment of a Django project. And a lot of key and real environment builds were covered. Dennis takes time to break down all the new concepts and stops to explain and cover wherever needed. It is a good tutorial where one can find all aspects of a Django and Restful API implementation. Thank you very much for this excellent tutorial.
