Clear, concise, well thought-out. The exercises and "pieces" have really contributed to my gaining more finger independence and control. I revisit this course every so often and by the next day my technique and precision are noticeably improved. Highly recommended.

The aim of this course is to teach fingerstlyle guitar to beginners. The instructor present very clearly the techniques to be taught in each video. Certainly, even a very beginner can improve with this course. The purpose of many peoples interested in music is to be able to play, sing songs they learned, not just to learn different techniques. In the section about roll (ex. 8) Stuart Ryan says that this technique taught is very useful in banjo and blues, unfortunately, he does not teach an example to apply it. The second section very interesting is about connecting chords. The instructor teach a series of progressions on which are applied fingerstyle patterns. He says in the first exercise that such patterns where very popular in the 60s and 70s, unfortunately, he does not teach any song from this period, which used this pattern. The next section is very interesting, Stuart Ryan presents in full details how with a simple melody, one can create a blues with the E chord by adding bass lines and syncopation. We would definitively, have liked to play a fingerstyle blues song which is constructed like so. Unfortunately, the instructor does not provide any reference about that. In the next section, he teaches icons styles. We do believe that the material taught in that section will definitively, help us to play songs of these icons, but which ones ? The instructor is not referring any of icons songs. Surprisingly, in the last section, instead of illustrating, roll techniques, icons, fingerstyle blues, with concrete songs built with the material previously taught, the instructor has chosen to teach Auld Lang Syne and Danny Boy. To conclude, we can see that this course is very interesting, because, it contained a lot of techniques like rolls patterns, travis picking like patterns, percussions, blues syncopations,... but unfortunately, it does not really help the beginner to build a repertoire by learning modern songs. This is very surprising, we could have expected that such a talented instructor, winner of many awards will have design a course more enjoyable.

Practice routines are good for positioning & dexterity of right hand. However thus far there has been no detail regarding which part of right hand fingers should strike strings i.e. full nail, full flesh or combination

The course is well-organized, step-by-step, with interesting patterns and artists to learn. The instructor is very good. My only complaints are that: 1) The accompanying transcripts are riddled with errors ("rapper trois" really?) and; 2) there are no chord diagrams; 3) Also, there are a few video segments where the accompanying tablature is whited out so it's impossible to play along with it there. Why hasn't this been fixed?

The exact "format" I was looking for. Bite-sized lessons, with enough explanations, but not too much needless talk. The teacher is calm and soothing, A step-by-step method that happens to be perfect for a self-taught guitarist like me who's in need of a more methodical yet effective approach.

First of all, he’s teaching are really slow and accurate. For a beginner finger style player absolutely must know these kind of techniques. You can’t go wrong and nothing to think about if I should get this course or not. I guess he’s not selling this for 24$ but to share the enjoyment of finger style whoever are interested with it. It’s very good for practice and details for explanation.

There is a lot in this course: The 5 chapters are well put together and the presentation by Stuart Ryan is excellent. Some of the later chapters are not at all easy and a lot of time will be required in the woodshed to work on the material. The final chapter on Solo Fingerstyle Guitar was my favourite and Stuart put some new approaches to two songs that I already play (Auld Lang Syne and Danny Boy).

A great course with lots of useful exercises. I wanted to get better at fingerstyle guitar and I found this course to be very useful. No doubt I will revisit some of the exercises. Because the course is designed from the ground up this is perfect for someone who has never ventured into the world of fingerstyle guitar. Stuart is a fantastic teacher and player and I have really enjoyed the course.

This course is brilliant. It fills the gap I've found in other courses between beginner level content, that leaves you playing simplified, unsatisfying versions of songs, and intermediate content, which often assumes a skill level I haven't achieved yet. The exercises provided and clear explanations are exactly what I need to build up my accuracy and speed for playing more complex music. Anyone who can play a few chords and who is willing to put in the the practice time with the exercises will get a huge boost to their skill level. I also love the musical icons the instructor has selected, and the fact he includes standard musical notation rather than just tablature. Looking forward to more courses from Stuart Ryan!
