Published Food Photographer
My journey into professional food photography began in 2010 when I had the chance to collaborate with the publisher and editor of a local foodie magazine. This opportunity led to hundreds of my photos being featured in the magazine, including 13 cover shots. Through this experience, I honed my skills and gained invaluable insights, which I’m now eager to share with you.
Training and Background
I received my first camera at 16 and, through trial and error, discovered my passion for food photography. When I decided to pursue it professionally, I earned a Photography Certificate from SAIT in Calgary, Canada, and have been working as a professional photographer since 2008, specializing in food photography.
International Recognition
In 2021, 2022, and 2023, my food photography was shortlisted for the prestigious Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year awards. In 2024, one of my images was selected as a finalist and received a "Highly Commended" honor in the “Food At The Table” category. Competing against over 10,000 entries in this global competition, I was thrilled—and you might say tickled pink—to be recognized by a panel of international expert judges.

While the course content is satisfactory, the certificate leaves much to be desired. It looks quite basic, with just the course name, Udemy logo, and the participant's name. The certificate could be significantly enhanced with a decorative border and some doodle art related to food photography. As it stands, it feels like it was hastily put together on a notepad. I worry my colleagues will laugh if I show them this certificate. If you haven't already, please speak to Udemy about improving the design of the certificate. This has a significant impact on you and your course. Thank you.

Barb’s course was very well laid out and easy to follow. Each section flowed naturally into the next. The picture examples were excellent and supported the verbal descriptions being given. I’ve been feeling nervous about starting to take food photos on my own but now after learning about lighting and design layout I feel much more confident. Thanks Barb, I can’t wait to get started!

Too fast and little explanation.

First, I love that she went over the photography basics, even though I'm taking a master class. It is always great to be reminded or to hear things more than once. Second and most importantly, she gave me some great ideas on how to take my photos and on props. Now, my husband might think otherwise when I'm stopping at tons of second hand stores to get my props. A really quick, yet informative course. Thank you so much!!!

Well organized, easy to follow and beautiful photos to illustrate the lighting and angles that work for food photography. Great for beginners but also great for more advanced photographers. It's always great to be reminded of things you may not be practicing and there is always something new to learn. I am inspired to go play with my food!

I've learned a lot about lighting. This is one area I struggle with. I have two soft boxes, and two 40 watt lights for fill light. Some of my photos look ok, some not. I'll review this material again as much as I need to in order to truly understand.

With clear explanations of each step, and examples that visually brought every aspect of food photography to life, I found this course very helpful for advancing my skills in photography and design.

nel complesso mi è piaciuto, la parte che ho preferito la sessione 12 e 13 davvero bella, per il resto molte cose le sapevo già , comunque a parte la difficoltà della lingua per il resto direi buono!!
