Ready to change the game?
If you've missed one of our popular gamification classes at Stanford, here's your chance to learn about gamification for training & learning. In this new course, you'll learn how to analyze popular games for the elements that make them work, make them fun, and make them perfect for your learning challenges.
In this highly interactive workshop, you'll play, design, and test more than 10 unique game mechanics – giving you an insider's view into how to incorporate them into your next learning challenge.
You'll also have the opportunity to apply your learning to up to 5 distinct learning challenges that you're facing now, giving you a jumpstart on applying your learning in the real world.
We also believe that fun is a key driver for learning – so we'll have a lot of it along the way. This isn't a boring "death by PowerPoint" course. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and get gaming.
Finally, we'll share success stories (and a couple failures) about how we've specifically incorporated games into our practice at some of the world's most recognized brands.

Materials are a bit redundant; feels mostly self-guided, like a DIY workbook. Knowing games are more fun than learning brings you here, and recognizing the mechanics is neat, but doesn't translate to applied skill in non-gaming industries. The strongest part was the real-world example of the flight attendants who enjoyed finding flaws & translating that to gamified training. More examples along these lines (ways to apply gamification to non-gaming disciplines) might help the skills transfer more effectively.

There was a variety of information and examples presented in this course. I would have liked to see some of the activity examples or at the end see an end product that used some of techniques presented in this course.

Thanks for the sharing. It was a basic learning on how we could adopt new concept of learning for learners and finding ways to enhance their learning experience. Good points taken, hope to see more indepth of concept learning.

A really interesting and rich course - it was a great introduction to game design in general and gamification in learning. I have yet to finish the exercises but was really pleased by the ones i completed, as they will be great tools in my game projects !

The course focuses on presenting different game mechanics and then encouraging you to brainstorm / apply of each of them. The "hands on" elements are where you would get the most value, so I think this course would be really helpful if you want to develop or work on a specific learning game idea. Otherwise, I'd just glance over the summaries of the game mechanics, examples, pros and cons.

Information is great, well presented in an interesting and easily digestible way. The worksheets are well thought out, and I love that the projects are so hands on. The only thing I could wish for is a place to submit screenshots or even the filled out worksheets. Even if nobody's really reading them or giving feedback, that extra bit of accountability is helpful.

I'm a teacher trainer at Heidelberg University in Germany and I took this course to get some additional inspiration for my own teaching (also about gamification and game-based learning). The course is extremely well structured and the material is fantastic. That said, the course follows a very practical approach (which I really enjoyed) but does not introduce lots of (background) theory.

Thank you for thiswonderful course. I loved the way you structured it. The information was organized with sufficient activities/ resources. It was just right for an instructional designer like me - until now I had picked up random information about gamification and was trying to put them to use, well, randomly. Now I feel more confident to bring gamification into my courses. Thank you!
