German for beginners (A1 - Part 2/5) (Udemy.com)

Step by step to fluency. Learn German the right way, right from the beginning! Part 2/5

Created by: Juliane Klingenberg Nery

Last updated August 2023

Our take

Based on the ratings of 466 students and a sample of their written reviews. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is the second of five parts in Juliane Klingenberg Nery's A1 German series, and it runs about 5.5 hours. It builds on part 1 and moves into the nominative and accusative cases, negation with kein and nicht, and subordinate clauses with weil and dass. Irregular verbs, time expressions, colors, shopping and meals round out the vocabulary. The description is blunt that it is for people who want to understand the logic behind German, not memorize sentences. Nery has taught German since 2004.

Reviewers are warm about the teaching. They call it like having a personal tutor, say the examples are clear, and like that earlier concepts get reviewed regularly. One student who compared it with other online teachers found that Nery gives more examples and explains each one better. The complaints are small. One person wants more homework to keep pushing, and another wants book recommendations for extra practice. With 466 reviews and a 4.8 rating, the feedback is consistently positive, and the cons are minor.

The last update was in 2023, which is more than two years back, but basic grammar ages slowly and no reviewer flagged anything outdated. It only makes sense as one piece of the series, so plan on all five parts to get toward the A1 exam. For learners who want structure and plenty of practice, the reviews make it an easy recommendation. Anyone after a quick phrase fix should look elsewhere.

Best forBeginners who finished part 1 and want grammar explained with lots of exercises, not phrases to memorize.
Skip it ifYou want a no-grammar phrasebook, or a single course that covers all of A1 in one go.

Pros

  • Walks through the accusative, kein and nicht, and weil clauses step by step
  • Reviewers praise the many exercises and regular review of earlier material
  • Nery gives plenty of clear examples, one reviewer found more than other online teachers
  • Adds practical vocabulary like colors, shopping and meals

Cons

  • Only part 2 of 5, so the A1 exam needs the whole series
  • One reviewer wants more homework to keep up the practice
  • No book or resource tips for extra practice, says one reviewer
Well structured, lots of exercises and regular review of all concepts learned thus far!

Juliane Klingenberg Nery

Hey there! I am the founder of "German to go"andhave been teaching German since 2004 - private and group tuition in various countries as well as on Skype. Now, I would like to make the material I created over the years available to more people. I am a passionate language learner myself and I love travelling. From 2005 to 2010, I studied "Languages and Business Studies" in Aix-en-Provence (France), in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK) and in Cologne (Germany). This was followed by an internship in Ottawa (Canada), where I met my husband, who is Brazilian. We lived in Brazil for 2 years and now we are back in my city of origin, Berlin, in Germany. We have a little daughter.I hope you enjoy my courses!

My partner and I were very impressed by this course. I have tried several others, but found that Juliana's was the most methodical and consistently built upon previous lessons. Also, whenever there was something we were confused about, she almost always explained it very thoroughly and clearly. Vielen Dank!

Novamente as aulas so muito bem estruturadas, e geralmente a maior parte das dvidas que surge respondida pela professora ou explicada nos vdeos em sequncia.
