I like the specific instruction on several aspects: unifying color of a picture, selecting one complimentary color group, feathering, and turning the picture to allow the paint to flow in the desired direction.

I have learned some very useful tips but I found the course a little disjointed. I found it difficult sometimes to identify the key learning point at a given stage. I feel ther is so much more that has gone over my head. The content is great but the delivery and style of workshop didn't work for me.

I enjoyed the course, however I was disappointed at the end with Polishing—because you simply showed the end product and not the steps that got you there, which I feel was an important part of the painting process. There is a big difference between telling and showing. Honestly, I felt cheated because you didn’t show how you achieved those effects.

I enjoyed his painting process however when he gets to the end “polishing his painting” he shows finished work with narrative of what he did. This was supposed to be the essence of the course. I would have liked to see his process of polishing his painting.

Likes the way he used lots of layers. Would like to have much longer lecture they were to short so could not get into the painting when another quiz come up. Like the quiz but to many. Sound was also a problem. Overall good lecture.

I learned a lot from your course, especially about glazing techniques and, of course, the wonders of The Color Wheel. (I went out and bought one just like yours, and have been enjoying many ah-ha moments since.) It can be daunting to watch a master at work when one feels like a perennial beginner, but your enthusiasm and wit made the course fun and at times inspiring . Thanks!

This is teaching me techniques I haven’t seen before. He didn’t waste time telling me about paper and brush shapes, but got into the painting right away. Lectures are bite sized and I love that. His quizzes also make me laugh. I'm really pleased with how my painting turned out.

This course has way more color theory and color wheel information than I expected. Probably more than any course I've taken. And I'm not sure I'll use everything he has taught in this course, but the repetition and the painting examples - especially the role reversal examples at the end - really opened up my thinking about this. The title is for the Beginner Artist, but I think this might be overwhelming for a true beginner. One thing that I found really annoying at first is that there were so many quizzes. And often the questions and answers weren't even covered in the portion of the video we just saw. But after a while I realize these quizzes are really part of the course, and he's giving us additional information - in a humorous way.

Technic is great but it would be helpful if the instructor gave a preview of what he plans to do and how he is going to do it.

By John Vernon on 3/30/2018

This course is great value having a very detailed and lengthy demonstration of using professional techniques for a transparent watercolor painting. In addition, Marsden explains the reasoning behind the many steps in this demonstration and provides general tips along the way. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to progress beyond beginner towards an advanced watercolorist. Probably too advanced for a beginners first course unless they wanted an insight into what is possible with traditional watercolor painting.
