How the Pharmaceutical Industry Works 2026 (Udemy.com)

Understand drug discovery, development, and the pharma business lifecycle step by step

Created by: Starweaver Group

Last updated September 2026

Our take

Based on the ratings of 773 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is a 54 minute primer on how a medicine gets from an idea to a pharmacy shelf. It runs through 11 lectures on the structure of the industry, drug discovery, drug development (including the anatomy of a clinical trial) and Medical Affairs. Nothing is required going in. The audience list names aspiring pharmacy technicians and nursing students, but reviewers describe it more as a basics course for people who have no science education.

Reviewers like that it is crisp and stays high level. One says it delivers exactly what it intends, the basics for someone who is not a healthcare professional. Another calls it a quick way to grasp the key pillars. Students call the teaching nice and the content comprehensible. The complaints are scattered but real: too light, not interactive enough, a role play section one reviewer called dreadful, and weak graphics. Another reviewer wanted a little on manufacturing, and a two star review says some simple topics got too much time while crucial ones were skipped.

Of 773 ratings, 680 are four or five stars and only 10 are one or two, for a 4.4 average. The course was last updated in September 2026. Treat it as a quick orientation, not training for a certification. If the learning goals about regulation and pharmacy careers make you expect depth, 54 minutes will not deliver it, and one reviewer felt it was too light for the price.

Best forNewcomers to pharma, including people outside healthcare, who want the big picture in under an hour.
Skip it ifYou need depth on regulation, manufacturing or pharmacy technician exam prep.

This is a good course. It is concise, interesting, and comprehensible. Teaches the basics of the Industry in a short course.

By Evy Nerinckx on 2/4/2026

Very interesting but would be 5* if it would be more interactive

By Anish on 2/7/2025

Not up to the mark, many irrelevant, simple topics got lot of disproportionate coverage, while many crucial topics have no mention Graphics are really very poor

By Ameya Patwardhan on 11/5/2024

This course delivers exactly what it is intended for. Basics of the pharma industry to an individual who is a not a HCP or hasn't had any education in science.

By Anonymized User on 10/4/2024

Very helpful course - covered all the steps but kept it high level so that anyone can really understand. Would have been helpful to include a little bit about the manufacturing process and when that takes place during the timeline.

By Anonymized User on 8/27/2024

A very good course for all those who want a first insight into the pharmaceutical industry and to help them understand some of the processes superficially. If you expect to be an expert after one hour, you will fail. But I don't think that's the intention of the course. I would have liked to give it 5 stars, but I was missing a few details (scope) and materials to download.

By Chetan Patil on 8/19/2024
