Course Description
As a full time touring/studio drummer, I have spent 10+ years drumming for artists from all over the world. I’ve also spent years mixing live bands on tour, and have learned the ins and outs of what makes a great live show.
Almost all of the bands and musicians you look up to, play along with backing tracks. Whether it’s that extra synth part that you can’t play, or some extra percussion tracks to fill out the sound, most bands are playing along to tracks.
Many of the artists I’ve toured with, play along to backing tracks, and I’ve witnessed firsthand, how important they can be to crafting a great live show.
If you’re ready to take your music to the next level, this is course is for you. In this course I’m going to teach you, step by step, how to:
- operate Ableton Live, the program that will run your tracks
- set up click tracks, and cues to direct the band
- sync logos and videos along to your tracks
- sync a lighting show to your tracks
- loop song sections on the fly
- set up your backing tracks system on stage
I’m always active on the Q/A, and will always answer any questions you have on this course.
Enjoy!

Hi, I'm Mark, and I get to live my dreams out every day. As a drummer for 14 years, and a Record Producer for 9 years, I've had the pleasure of working in the studio, and playing live with some very talented, award winning artists, from Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, China, Taiwan, etc...
Over the years, I've had to learn the "do's and do nots" of recording, producing, and drumming, the hard way... By first, learning the "do nots." My goal in teaching these courses is to allow you to skip learning the "what not to do" and jump right into doing things the right way, right away.

Good Course! Accurate amount of knowledge needed to create killer tracks, however 1 or 2 live demonstration on creating music, like a metal song or rock song, as demonstration would be great.

A great intro course to get you up and running with multitracks. Helped me understand a lot of the basics of controlling the music and sound.

This was good. I finally see how Ableton is used live. This is older. It is from 2016 and using Ableton Live 9, but it is still relevant and well put together for organizing a live show with tracks using Live. Thanks!

This course was quite useful to me, in order to have some good ideas about managing backing tracks for live use. Alas the sound quality of the musical examples is quite poor and low, as if it had been recorded by a laptop microphone or similar device, while the speech is ok, instead. I feel that setting up this important detail the whole course would become more endearing.

Great basics of setting up backing tracks, this technique only works when your setlist is fairly short. We have a set list of over 300 songs so impossible to put them all into arrangement view. would be great to see how to do tracks in session view and set them up with a midi controller, also would have loved to have seen how to synch the lighting actually up to the track and the set up of video in the real world. Felt a little incomplete.

Good coverage, wondering how to create a complete backing track set line in the last few lessons with the separate stems from different songs, etc.. But, outside of that I felt the content was good for a more experienced beginner, early intermediate user. I've used Ableton for a couple years but not on any consistent basis. Still it was good instruction and I give Mark 5 stars cuz I felt it was really informative. Good job!!

I've been a professional guitarist for over 2 years but never had to put together a backing track. I had some questions and concerns that this course addressed perfectly and i would recommend it to anyone that need to do the same. The course is informative and walks you through the whole process without leaving anything out. Very enjoyable and very informative. Well done fellas!

while course starts with very basic information regarding mixers etc, it will be very useful when it comes to Ableton itself

Mark is a fantastic teacher and everything he went over was thorough and easy to follow! I highly recommend this course for any musician or band looking to add backing track to their live show!

As a striving musician, professionalism is key. You want to be able to give the audience an experience they will never forget, and perform at the best of your ability. Mark shows you the way to do that in this great program by educating you on how to create these backing tracks for a live show, with a simple and clear understanding. I had no previous experience doing this, and had never even heard of Ableton Live prior to this course, but always wondered how top performers make their live show so incredible. Step by step, Mark goes through ways of setting them up, troubleshooting any issues, how to loop a section while still staying on time in a live setting, creating cues, and even how to incorporate music videos and lighting into your performance. This course is well worth the money and I now feel confident in using this program, and creating backing tracks for my band's live show. Thanks Mark! -Ryan Claxton
