Course Description
You do not need to be a math expert to take this class. All concepts taught are explained in simple terms. Join me to build your confidence around using HR data!
HR Analytics, also called People Analytics, talent analytics and workforce analytics has been increasingly used in corporate Human Resources (HR) teams.
This class is a beginner level introduction. It is intended for:
HR employees who want to learn how businesses are using analytics to study their workforces,
Students who wish to explore whether they would enjoy a career in HR Analytics, and
Beginner level analytics people who wonder how analytics is different in HR.
This course is not intended for analytics and statistical experts.
The course begins with real-world examples of analytics and the additional challenges that come with trying to study people. You will learn how HR teams are using analytics to improve the workplace for employees, to increase the bottom line for their business and to ensure fairness in the workplace.
I will present a step-by-step guide for approaching any analytics problem by beginning with the “business question.”
You will learn Tracey’s three fundamental rules for properly selecting which metrics to measure and what happens when you ignore Rule #3!
You will have several opportunities to practice your analytics skills in Excel (or in the tool of your choice) to answer real-world HR questions and provide HR leaders with decision-making advice based on your analysis.
Should your HR leader be concerned about turnover trends? Why are employees really leaving the company?
Can we use data to reduce the impact of a planned downsizing of the workforce?
Can we optimize recruitment from college and university campuses to help our leader reduce recruitment costs?
Are our hiring practices fair? You will learn how HR and Legal teams test for fairness by conducting an impact analysis.
We will install Excel’s free Data Analysis Toolpak to learn even more analytical techniques (or you can use the tool of your choice). While these techniques fall under the topic of statistics, do not worry if you are not a math expert. These techniques are easy to understand and I have taught them to thousands of non-mathematical students.
You will learn how to test if variables are related to each other, i.e., does a change in one create a change in another? I will teach you techniques to:
Test if performance scores are related to an employee’s salary,
Explore which factors can affect safety incidents, and
Understand how to properly analyze pay gaps.
I’ll provide simple explanations for how to use additional statistical tests to determine:
Whether a training workshop was effective and remained effective.
You’ll conclude the course learning:
HR’s role in protecting the privacy of employee data,
How confidential data is accidentally released, and
How different countries have implemented privacy regulations.
You will have the opportunity to answer quizzes throughout the course and be able to download multiple free reference sheets to guide you in your data analysis projects and pick mathematical techniques.
If that sounds like something that you’d love to learn, join me by registering for this class.

Really enjoyed this course. Clear instructions, easy to understand, nice bite-sized chunks and 10 "assignment" activities to practice and embed learning. Great intro to this topic. I have already purchased my next course from Tracey.

It definitely was. I started my journey in people analytics throughout the past 6 months and was working my way through what i thought might be good metrics depending on the function of my practices at that time. This course has helped me to ease a lot of my work as it was more practical and fast solutions to gaining insights i needed. Thanks Tracey for a great course.

Its a great teacher, explains stuff simple and to the point with good examples and great excersises. Only thing I would change is the time needed in the description, because if you do all the excersises that course is longer than 1 hour. Or maybe I am just slow. Still, I think I would put at least 2 hours there :)

It was a good exposure for me. However, I couldn't follow through because of my lack of statistical background and knowledge in linear regression model.

Very good accessible introduction to topic. I went on to also study the similarly named course by Jeff Higgins which contained a bit less math and more practical examples. The combination of both was great.

The course has been structured in a great manner and the lectures were easily understandable. What can be done is some more assignments can be included and a little more detail about the topic, connecting it to present scenario can be included.

The instructor has a very interesting way of making everything look easy. This is my first stint with analytics and I am already looking forward to using the statistical tools -see? Very well put together, now let me go solve some real problems.

The course has been quite a productive one especially for HR professionals who would want to get an idea/basics on how HR Analytics works. Moreover, Tracey made it quite an easy-going course even for people with a non-mathematical background. She takes it quite slow and steady for everyone to understand wherever calculations are involved. Worth signing up for this course! If she can come up with advanced courses of HR analytics would be great!

True to its name, it is a basic course and good for those in HR who want to understand what analytics is all about. what will help 1. Give examples of how analytics can ad value to each phase of HR life cycle - sourcing to exit 2. what next session - it is important to touch up on how to learn descriptive and diagnostics analytics and how to move towards predictive analytics and what HR problems are solved in predective analytics. While doing, the level of knowledge required in Statistics, packages such as R or Python and the knowledge of algorithms. While these are for technical analytics, an overview or orientation of the same to HR professionals is mandatory. They need not know how to build an algorithm but they need to know the algorithms being used to predict attrition vs the renege problem

I am not very conversant with excel. So the regression analysis and p value were new to me. I expected a more insight on how to read data and drive result oriented analysis . However for beginning its ok
