Our take
Based on the ratings of 30,007 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in October 2023. No course pays to be reviewed.
Andrew Luttrell is a social psychologist, and this is a short, lecture-style tour of the science behind stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination. It runs 2.6 hours across 33 lectures, with six quizzes. The most time goes to stereotype threat and to a closing block of nine lectures on reducing bias. The audience list points at employees who need to document training, teachers, and anyone concerned about bias. It explains why bias happens more than it tells a company how to write policy.
Students mostly like the clarity. Reviewers call it digestible, clearcut and short and sweet, and several single out the examples. One says the material is presented in a non confrontational way but still makes viewers face their own biases. Roughly 26,000 of the 30,007 ratings are four or five stars. The criticism is mild and scattered. A few reviewers find the speech fast, want more examples or more scientific references, or wish racism had been defined more directly. A couple found the instructor unclear or condescending, and one reported video that kept stopping.
The last update was October 2023, so the material is a few years old, though reviews from 2026 are still positive. At under three hours it is a quick way to get a certificate and a shared vocabulary for talking about bias. If you need depth, legal detail or manager-specific training, plan to add something else. As a first pass on the subject, it is an easy recommendation.
Pros

- Reviewers call the explanations clear and digestible, with helpful examples
- Ends with nine lectures on practical ways to reduce bias, not just theory
- Certificate included, handy for employees documenting diversity training
Cons
- A few reviewers find the delivery fast, unclear or condescending
- Some want more examples, more cited research, and a firmer definition of racism
- Last updated October 2023, and one recent reviewer hit video playback problems
Insightful and digestible content- I loved the delivery and examples

Yes, as a Business Women in Massage Therapy, I get so many that still think my professional attributes are commonly mistaken for some sort of sexual encounter or that because I’m a woman it’s okay to be subjected to people coming in and trying to get me to do something I’m never going to do! comments like taking clothes off! I’m just not that type of woman!

One of the most comprehensive presentations of this topic I have experienced. Lots to soak up and process, but it would be one worth retaking. Material is presented in an interesting and non confrontational way, but still leaves the viewer with facing truth and confronting their own beliefs and biases.

From my own experience, I'm aware of the impact of prejudice and discrimination. I have used and have been impacted by some of these strategies. The course provides a basis for a broader understanding of human interactions and how thay are affected by unconscious and conscious bias.

I think this really brought together a lot of ideas that'd been floating around in my head for sometime and put them into a nice, neat, logical package. I can see how these issues fit together now. I also found the challenging of colour blindness very rewarding and a call to arms against issues I've experienced with directly and actively challenging prejudice. The In-group and Out-group models have been of the most practical use, as well as the discussion around stereotyping. This was a great course - thanks!

If you exist, you have been impacted by all three dynamics in one form or the other. Unfortunately, it's among day's hot topics, so I want to be better equipment to cope with, as well as deal with my surroundings.

I am so glad I took this course. Andrew explains so well with such simple examples that there's no way you wouldn't get it. My concept of stereotypes, prejudice and social identity are much clearer than before. I can actually apply this knowledge to my own Passion Project called LEAP for Intersex, where I raise awareness about Intersex and transgender individuals in my society. This course has made me understand diversity in a meaningful way, and I can help other people understand and value diversity now. Thank you so much Andrew for being a part of my journey!
