Our take
Based on the ratings of 11,556 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short Excel course for people who work in HR. It runs about 9.7 hours over 88 lectures and 19 sections, and it moves from essential Excel and HR metrics into charts, dashboards, pivot tables and finally a linear regression model. Start-Tech Academy, founded by Abhishek Bansal and Pukhraj Parikh, built it around five case studies. More than 140,000 students have enrolled. It is aimed at HR managers, executives and students heading into HR, not at working data analysts.
Reviewers like the clear, easy-to-follow teaching and the practice material that comes with it. One HR professional calls the content practical and directly applicable to real HR work, and another says it suits someone who does not use much Excel day to day. The complaints are mild. One reviewer found the machine learning part harder to follow, another wants the maths explained with everyday examples, and a self-described Excel beginner rated it only fair. One three-star review says the resources would not open.
The course was last updated on September 10, 2026, and the syllabus includes lessons on Excel's Analyze Data feature (Microsoft 365 only) and on importing data from external sources, so it does not feel stale. The regression section is basic and there are no coding exercises, so treat it as a first taste of predictive work. For HR people who want practical Excel skills over theory, it is a sensible paid pick. Anyone chasing Power BI or Python should look elsewhere.
Pros
- Clear, easy-to-follow lectures that reviewers say suit people who rarely use Excel
- Five case studies cover HR metrics, dashboards, KPIs and linear regression
- Downloadable Excel data and solution files let students practice alongside
- Updated September 2026, with Analyze Data and data import lessons in the syllabus
Cons
- The machine learning and maths sections lose some reviewers
- Excel beginners may struggle; one beginner rated it only fair
- Linear regression is the only predictive model, and nothing is coded
Very informative course. It was very interesting for someone like me who does not use much excel on daily work. Delivery is clear and concise, easy to follow.
Labeled All Levels, but it fits HR staff with basic Excel; the only requirement is a PC with Excel installed.

Very informative course. It was very interesting for someone like me who does not use much excel on daily work. Delivery is clear and concise, easy to follow. However, Machine Learning seems more complicated to me. I hope I can practice this well and apply in real-work scenario.

The course is good. But it would be better if the maths part is explained in much easier way. In this present situation it is always better to explain things with our day today life example. Overall this is good and interesting.

I found it boring at the beginning because the speaking speed was low but then I realized in the third part that I could increase the speed. Your instructions were so clear and I appreciate them. You had very clear instructions about the course and how to use all the buttons on the video.
By Elisabeth Dugan on 1/8/2026
I learned a lot, but got lost during some of the more difficult parts, including statistical modeling. It's been too long since I took statistics in college and I don't use them normally. Overall, I did learn a lot that I can use in my HR role.
