Even if you have 0 programming knowledge that is OK! I will go over the very basic programming fundamentals. We will go through each line of code step by step.
We will be creating a simple platformer
Using Godot 4.4 Game Tab
we will learn some level design fundamentals
using scene tiles for adding complex platforms
implement parallax background
NPC with dialogue
cool dialogue effects
using terrains to make level design much easier
explore some cool ways of getting dynamic audio
How to create Collectables
dynamic UI
How to animate the player
Unleash the power of the animation player node
create a simple character controller
Using new Godot 4.3 Features!
Tilemap Layer Node
Parallax 2d Node
Learn about custom signals and global variables
We will learn about the building blocks of godot and how to use the engine from someone who has been working with the engine very closely for about 3 years.
I will also go over multiple ways of solving the same problem so that you have multiple tools when you're implementing features while using the game engine.

Experience as a Programmer
My first ever time programming was using Lua, automating robots in a Minecraft mod. Since then I was hooked and took place in summer camps programming real life robots. After graduating university in 2019 I started doing Web Development, it wasn't until the spring of 2021 that I decided to give game development a shot. I started off using the Unity game engine and after making various games, I decided to give the Godot game engine a shot. I liked how godot was open sourced and the community was very welcoming, but most of all, the ease of use for the engine was what really sealed the deal. In the year of 2022 I released 5 games (4 on itch and 1 mobile game on the google play store). I love game development because of the freedom it allows you to create. You're creating a whole new world, with its own laws of physics, atmosphere, creatures and much more.

I may have a different perspective on this course given I'm not new to programming (decades of experience in multiple languages), but I've never been a game developer or used Godot, however it is very similar to Python. What I liked about this course is it's broken up into concepts like Tilemaps, Tilesets, Terrain; Camera; Collision, Parallax, animation, sounds, UI, etc. These are things I've never had to do and I'd love for courses specific to these since I'm sure there's a lot more to uncover in each. Jackie's approach is chill and she knows mistakes happen and we fix them and move on. Programming is rarely Step A to B to C and so on even at the "expert" level.

This course is meant for people starting at 0. I've never looked into game programming before and thus never operated Godot. I'm trying to follow along and do what Jackie does but she's talking and clicking things way too fast that I can't really do it while she is doing it. I'm not sure if I should be watching each lesson once, and then watch it at least once more to actually try and do what she is doing.

This is a solid intro course to the Godot engine. I've enjoyed it very much. I used to make little games when I was a kid, and now after many years I feel proud for having learned how to make them again. With the Godot engine it's much easier nowadays than back then, where you had to create all the game's physics and handling of user input yourself. I already have some programming knowledge. But without it, I'm sure anyone can finish the course and make this nice platform game by just following the instructions. Sometimes the pace of the instructions is a bit fast, and I had to rewind the videos a couple of times, when I missed some important details. But still, the learning curve is well balanced and the teacher explains complicated things quite well. I've learned a lot during this course. And I am very happy that it helped to regain my motivation to make games again. I'm looking forward to see more learning content from Jackie Codes.

I've been enrolled in a few other beginner godot courses, and have about ~1-2 of accumulated game dev experience with no prior relevant experience (I do have software tester background). I got this course thinking it could offer me another perspective or learn something new, and this course did accomplish that. From what I already knew, this course re-informs that knowledge (some examples: good naming practices, utilizing globals, score keeper, ui, initial level design on top of the typical beginner stuff). That reaffirmation encourages confidence that I don't need to feel stuck in tutorial hell. Some new concepts I picked up was in the various tile blocks, incorporating them in the Terrains and Bitmasks section and NPC - this definitely helped me expand my knowledge and now I'm cooking up some ideas to try out.

I like it how she simplifies the concept and then teaches us. Would like it even more if she could teach us how to save and load the game. But still for beginners like me, the course is still amazing.

These 5-stars rating in advance, because You said You will be develope this course. First of all You should remake those video where You use writings to explain some mistakes or other solutions. For me, as a totaly "green one" is very confusing and not clear enough What You are doing. Secondly - make a new episode (or new course) about GDScript programming. I believe that no one will make any good and well optimized game without that kind of knowledge. Besides. Course in my opinion is toughtful and fully answers the question for a new person: "Do You really want to make games?" Looking forward to You next updates or new courses, Jackie. Best wishes nad good luck.

This course is great for beginners and slightly experienced indie developers. The pace is just fast right, with clear explanations, even when Jackie is talking about more difficult parts of the engine, and no unnecessary intros. The resulting game has every part needed for a full 2D platformer game. I recommend this course as a starting point into Godot game development!

Excellent course! I was able to follow along and produce exactly what was instructed. I messed up a few times myself and had to go back, pause, rewind, and play again to find my mistakes. Very good fundamental course for beginners and highlights the power of Godot 4.x for making game dev easy.

This was a great course as an intro to Godot 4.3 and its new features for a beginner. I would recommend this course to somebody who has never developed a game. To make this a 5-star recommendation I would have video edits instead of the large text blocks when retroactively fixing things. Explain how you found it, Why it's happening and how to fix it. All in all, it was a good course and I'm glad I spent the money, I enjoyed the teacher's chill laid-back style that clearly shows that making games should be a fun process. I will keep an eye out for the next course.

Jackie is a good teacher! I had to try and figure out some stuff on my own but that is what game dev is all about, trial and error. I can't wait to learn more on my own, this course has got me excited to create games!
