ITSM Fundamentals: Prepare for the Certification Exam (Udemy.com)

Learn the key ITSM concepts you need to prepare for the certification exam and pass it the first time.

Our take

Based on the ratings of 7,031 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

An exam prep course for the ITIL 4 Foundation certification, though the title avoids the ITIL name and the listing states it is not affiliated with PeopleCert. Sam Legion, an IT veteran with ITIL, CISSP and CCNP credentials, walks through the service value system, guiding principles and practices in about 7 hours across 34 lectures, split into two long sessions. It suits people who need the badge for a service desk, support or IT management role and want a lecture-style pass through the syllabus. The only stated requirement is a basic grasp of IT operations, and reviewers found it easy to follow.

Students like the teaching. Reviewers report passing the exam, one using it as primary study material and another on the first try, and they credit Legion for pointing out what the test will ask and explaining why a wrong answer is wrong. Reviewers call him fun and say it feels like sitting in a classroom with him. The complaints are consistent, too. He repeats points, sometimes three times, pauses for long stretches and wanders into anecdotes. One non-native speaker found his shifting speed and volume hard to follow. One reviewer noticed slides out of order, and a few wanted more practice questions than the course provides.

With 7,026 reviews and a 4.6 rating, about 90 percent of them four or five stars, it has plenty of feedback behind it and was refreshed in August 2026. It shares the page with Azure and Salesforce admin courses, but this one covers a single, mostly conceptual exam and can be finished in a weekend. Pair it with a set of mock exams, since the syllabus lists no practice tests, and it should get most people over the line.

Best forSupport staff and IT managers who need the ITIL 4 Foundation badge and learn best from a talkative, classroom-style lecturer.
Skip it ifYou want practice tests bundled in, or a tight delivery with no repetition that you can watch at normal speed.

Pros

  • Reviewers report passing the exam with it, one using it as primary study material and one at the first attempt
  • Legion explains why wrong answers are wrong and flags which topics the exam leans on
  • Refreshed in August 2026, and a summer 2026 reviewer says it is on par with PeopleCert's ITIL content
  • Comes with a course guide that one reviewer calls another great tool for study

Cons

  • Repeats each point two or three times and drifts into anecdotes, which pads out the 7 hours
  • No practice tests built in; reviewers bought mock exams elsewhere to be ready
  • Varying speech speed and volume tripped up a non-native English speaker, and some slides are out of order
The presenter doesn't just guide you through what ITIL is about, he gives relevant tips and tricks to pass the exam. He also explains why a question would be wrong.

Beginner is accurate: a basic grasp of IT operations is enough, but it's built to pass the exam, not to teach hands-on ITSM work.

I really liked this course and the way the instructor breaks things down and tells you what to watch out for on the test. I think there could have been more practice questions, and some areas covered more, but he does tell you what to study more in-depth. I paired this with 6 practice exams and in-depth study of areas I struggled with. I got a 95%.

The presenter doesn't just guide you through what ITIL is about, he gives relevant tips and tricks to pass the exam. He also explains why a question would be wrong. Great study tips as well. The course guide that goes with it is a another great tool to use for study. Thanks so much.

Course is informative. One who doesn't have any knowledge can start with this course. Approach is really good. I hope it covers all the topics that I need to pass the certification exam. Do update me if any thing left to cover.

I think the course covered everything needed for the ITIL 4 Foundation certification exam. The tone of the course could be better, for a non-native speaker the very varying speed and volume of speech was at times difficult to understand. Practice questions could have utilized exam functions.

The instructor is very engaging and makes listening to and learning the information enjoyable. This is no small feat! He is also very thorough and gives real life examples to help the concepts stick with you. I am very impressed by this instructor and course.

I gained a vast understanding of the ITIL framework and majorly on how it applies to modern IT service management. A lot of insights shared on guiding principles, Service value chain and service management. This is so applicable in increasing the service value to organizational excellence.

Really great course. Just enough content that moves at a good pace. I used this course along with a little extra reading for bits I found tricky to sink in (mostly Service Chain Activities ) Passed today with 39/40 (98%). Very happy with that!!

By Ulrich Schreitmüller on 3/9/2026

Thorougly engaging and more importantly laser focused on the test itself. Combine this with one of the "practice exams" courses and you'll be golden. I managed to score 95% on the first try after only two and a half days of preparation!

I loved Sam's training. He truly explained everything what we need for the exam. It is great to have a trainer who has energy and who can keep you awake during a training which can be a bit "dry" sometimes. 5 stars Sam, thanks.

This course was very good in explaining the ITIL4 content in (relevant) detail. The tempo of the course was very good. In such a way that it allows for time for you to be able to really absorb the information being provided. I can really recommend this course/instructor. Hopefully the new ITILv5 wil also follow by this instructor
