Course Description

If you have some coding experience under your belt, but you want to take your web development skills to the next level, this course is for you. This is a comprehensive introduction to the deeper ins-and-outs of JavaScript, and the modern, increasingly popular framework, React.
Whether you are a student or working developer who only knows Java or Python, a wannabe developer who's learning on their own, an applicant for a coding bootcamp, or a developer who hasn't touched web technologies in a while, the concepts covered in this course will help you beef up your knowledge, your skills, your resume, and your portfolio.
In this course, you will:
  • Master fundamental JavaScript concepts like the DOM, Events and Callbacks, and AJAX
  • Call real-world APIs and parse the data in your own web projects
  • Work with the new features of the JavaScript language thanks to ES6
  • Use popular web tooling including npm, Yarn, Grunt, Gulp, and webpack
  • Study the ins and outs of React component lifecycles, state, properties, and other core React concepts
  • Build modern web projects with React
  • Deploy your web applications online for the world to see
  • Take real-world interview practice quizzes as you build your knowledge
You'll be practicing your skills through quizzes and by building both simple and complex projects in this course, including but not limited to a website theme toggler, a NASA Image Search site, a personal portfolio site, and a markdown note manager. Each of these projects are expandable in a way where you can customize it to your heart's content, perfect for your own portfolios. The quizzes cover actual interview questions as well as topics you'll see throughout your front-end development career. By the end of this course, you should feel comfortable doing a JavaScript job interview.Who this course is for:
  • People who want to build modern web applications with React
  • Intermediate-level developers (students or professional developers who know some programming, not necessarily JavaScript, but can understand the syntax and very basics of JS)
  • Wannabe developers who have finished tutorials on Codecademy (or similar) and want a deeper dive into JavaScript
  • Developers who want to build their resume material with a modern framework
  • People interested in applying to join a coding bootcamp
  • Former web developers who haven't used JavaScript in 4+ years
  • Web developers who want a refresher on core JavaScript concepts and how to use React
  • College students who want to try their hand at web programming
  • This course is NOT for people with no coding experience. You should be able to understand the basic syntax of JavaScript (objects, conditionals, loops)

Great course, enjoyed it a lot. Watched it at 1.5x speed for most of it. I would have loved more on testing and would be interested in purchasing a separate course for just that.

I originally picked this up for React because I have started playing around with it, but honestly the javascript bits were important for me as well. I primarily play in the .NET space with a backend focus and I've been looking for something that lets me get more comfortable with the front end. This fit the bill perfectly.

The course was been extremely practical and to the point, without glossing over details. It is exactly what I've been looking for in order to dive into a language that I've used quite a bit through trial and error, but never properly learned.

I follow this course, the speaker's accent is clear and she teach the course to the point and related with the what will be use in React. I recommended this course!

I would love to give a better review. Cassidy is very articulate, likable and knowledgeable teacher. The video and audio quality is perfect.

My problem is that the course is too superficial. It doesn't go in depth on any subject. She gives a good explanation of the concepts but doesn't revisit or dig deeper. For example the React lifecycle methods, she explains very well but then we use only one or two methods. The projects that we go through are so basic that we don't need the methods, therefore, we cannot master the essentials.

I am curious who was this course aimed at. She describes and explains basic concepts very well, so I would think it might be for beginners, but then she expects the students to figure out a lot of things on their own. Especially in the React projects.

I didn't give a lower review because I find her inspiring. I think she is a great engineer with a palpable passion for technology. But I have to be fair to the courses I gave 5 stars on Udemy.

Cassandra is a great teacher, she is very clear and all the examples we build throughout the courses are really fun.

Maybe a bit more in depth explanation would be worth adding on React states and props.

So far, so good. I am enjoying the clear instruction visually and spoken.

By Daniel Gonzalez

She explains things in very straightforward ways which makes sense for people like myself who already have web experience, but would definitely make sense to newcomers.

As an MIT Student with some understanding of Javascript, the process to learn and understand React (at least in the ways that this course introduces it) was very easy!

(Also, the intro ukulele of "The Judge" by 21 Pilots is also nice)

Always been a fan of hers. Loving this course so far!!

Awesome content. I feel like I will be coming back to this course again and again! Please add more react content.

Can't wait to learn more from your future courses.

This was an amazing course that gave me a broad overview of modern Javascript development, commonly used tools and technologies, and working knowledge of React.

I thoroughly enjoyed the lectures that Cassidy delivered enthusiastically which kept me engaged from start to finish. The content presented is both broad and delves deep in the right areas which shows how much effort was put into the curriculum design. The project based assignments were thoughtful, fun, and challenging enough to direct my learning to more deeply understand the concepts presented.

At the end of the course I feel I have a solid foundation from which to continue my learning with React and start building my own projects using modern Javascript development tools and practices. I highly recommend this course, thanks Cassidy!

I'm an experienced web developer, seeking professional enlightenment by enriching my skillset. Being completely new to React, this was a fantastic course. I made a few hapless attempts at the assignments, and so I found myself jumping to the solution before completing some of them. By doing so, I followed the code as it was described, writing it out myself (which is a great way for me to learn). Muscle memory is a huge way to "feel" what I'm trying to learn along the way. This was so enjoyable, I'll be dipping back in a few times to nail it down. Thank you Cassidy for sharing your knowledge. Fantastic :)

I toke this course to get an intro to react and to get a quick recap on JS and get connected to the new ES6 features. And that is what you get from this course. Good lab's as well. And a very pleasant teacher as well!
