I grew up in Londonderry, NH (about 45 minutes north of Boston, MA) and began playing guitar when I was 15 years old. I liked it so much that I decided to spend $80,000 on a music degree from the University of New Hampshire to learn more about music as a language. This interest and obsession with music, music theory, songwriting, pop and rock music flourished and manifested itself through playing the guitar, piano, bass and singing (opera - had to pay for part of that huge school bill somehow!). More recently, I co-founded a music teaching business, 80/20 Music, LLC in order to offer a digital training center for students around the world to access online, anytime!I live in Dover, NH, with my beautiful wife, Emily, and children Noah and Phoebe. Thanks for reading my profile and feel free contact me with any thoughts, comments or suggestions!

I loved the simplicity of this course. Jason is great at breaking everything down and just giving you what you need to know to get started. Some instructors throw so much information at you but this was just perfect for me. Loved the Jason Mraz song at the end. I'm looking forward to getting into the beginners course next and have already purchased it for when I'm ready to learn some more.

I'm two videos in, but I like the style and instructor...that's for the ego boost you mentioned ;) And I like the pace and tone i.e. the way the delivery/instruction is communicated. The instructions feels very genuine. I know this sounds silly as I am watching a video, but you feel like Jay actually cares about you (or all of us for that matter) learning this and being successful. Thanks!

Simple, yet important topics explained well in the beginning. I love knowing that I can learn to play thousands of songs with these four chords! I like your down to earth humor. I heard you say that you sometimes play in church. That's my main goal. I attend a small country church. I have written dozens of Christian songs that I want to be able to play. I'm excited to be able to play them soon! I've recorded them with my son playing the keyboard. Thanks!

I really like this course. The teacher is really good. It is nice to know that only 4 chords are necessary to play nice songs in a short time. The teacher clearly explains what I must do to get this done. I think it is one of the best courses to start your guitar journey. I highly recommend this course.

I have taken guitar classes off and on for years. I once took a week long class and on Friday night before our concert our instructors gave us some wine to relax...we got so relaxed we no longer knew which planet we were on. Once i took a guitar class where the instructor taught us to tune the guitar, and the rest of the time we watched him play...mostly Santana. Once i took a guitar class and told the instructor i wanted to play Wildwood flower...so thats where we started... This class feels right to me since Im Pretty much at square one. This isnt Santana, but it is promising.

Great Instructor, He gives excellent information on how to learn to play guitar. The good things is that he focuses the important things so you can see results faster and keep playing. I know for me that was the hardest part to practice and see no improvement. I think this class helped me a lot in focusing on the things that give the most results first.

This course starts at the ABSOLUTE beginner...as in here are the parts of the guitar and quickly gets you to some semblance of competence. The instructor was light hearted. For some reason the sound is off on the C Major video. The only change I would make on this course is throwing out the videos on the variations. I think those are just confusing at this stage of the game and should be held for videos further down the learning path. Superb for a free course!

If you're a new guitarist, this is an hour well-spent. This course will bring you from the minute you bring home your first guitar, to the names of the strings, to strumming with a pick, all the way up to mastering the four or five most important chords. Jason's a good teacher and you never feel like he's rushing or talking down. If you're just learning to play guitar, you can't go wrong with this course.
