Course Description

Learn 'How' to sing Naturally from a professional singing teacher who has worked as a singer and trained all types of vocalist worldwide.

This course is about "How" to sing - we get straight to the point...

To help you with that daily singing routine, we have produced this Natural Singing Fundamentals Course with the beginner, actor and singer in mind, using the "John Oxley Technique"

The Natural Singing fundamentals course will help you in many ways for example:

  • Opening your Throat and freeing it of tension

  • Correct breathing the absolute core of singing

  • Understanding resonance through the 'Focus of Breath technique'

  • Using the 'Covering Technique' when singing in the upper register (high notes)

  • And not having to sing falsetto (Male voice)

  • This training is geared to straight singing, e.g. Musical Theatre & good Pop singing

  • By using this training your voice will last you years

  • You will be able to approach all styles; Pop, Blues, Jazz, Folk, etc.

  • No matter what style you do decide to sing, there is one important rule that

** Your throat must be open and free of tension **

If you wish to sing then the mantra is you have to practise daily to improve. This means you get to exercise your voice but also you build your awareness of your voice.

The course not only offers you good vocal technique but a confidence knowing that well known actors such as:

Jeremy Irons - Jane Lapotaire -  Tim Pigott-Smith -  Chris Biggins -  Greta Scacchi -  Allan Corduner

...to name just a few, received the same basic training from John Oxley at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and all have made their mark in the profession as actors and over many years have used their voices correctly in speech and singing.

I emphasise the Natural approach with my knowledge gained over many years of study and singing, and teaching.

Don’t sit back and do nothing Enrol today and prepare yourself for your future as an all round confident singer..

John is in touch with many of his old students who are now household names and they regularly thank him for his influence in their professional careers. He can do the same for you if YOU are prepared to work at it.

John & Shaun Natural Singing

Who is John Oxley – Singing Teacher

John studied at the Royal College of Music, London. After singing professionally for some years, in 1961 became singing teacher responsible for singing and voice at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, England, and later singing teacher at York University Department of Theatre, Ontario, Canada. Students describe him as a straightforward, avuncular and jovial man, and have a special fondness for his favoured training song, Ombra Mai Fu.

Who is Shaun? Shaun has a musical and technical background and got to know John as a singing student. He studied at LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) and sung professionally. I would say that John’s skills as a singing teacher are exceptional. His teaching skills reach far beyond singing…he teaches you how to sing and how to listen. I consider myself very lucky to have met John and then to have had him as my singing teacher. You are in excellent hands.

Excellent course. Takes us step by step in building the voice

By László Somogyi on 6/24/2024

Teacher John Oxley had a great experience with this course. The course parts were easy to follow and I feel that I gained insight into the world of artistic and beautiful singing. I live in Budapest and I watched the courses from here, but it was like we worked together with an infinitely sympathetic teacher. At the end of the course, the teacher gives up the lesson to the students, come on work guys , patiently nice regularly this is not an easy song . Great teacher, great course! 10/10

John Oxley is such a talented and truly good teacher. He offers the type of lessons that I wish that I had access to in person. I feel fortunate to have found his course. I have had lessons since I was young and I believe John is a remarkable teacher who is able to clearly help you strengthen and learn vocal skills. In my case, I am re-learning as it has been years since I had an instructor. I have noticed healing in my voice from doing John’s warm-up lessons. What a find John Oxley’s course is, If you want a person who can show you the real stuff, I would take this course. I believe Udemy lucked out having John on board. This is truly good.

I am very happy with the course. I would like instruction on other songs, preferable from the same teacher or from someone with the same approach. In the meantime, I will continue practising these lessons.

Dear Sir, I like the course very much, It's a good match for me specially in the areas of placing and covering my voice in the higher pitch . Though short and simple, I realized and learned whole aspects of singing. starting from breathing to singing a complete song placing voice and covering it in the right way. Thanking you for this precious lessons.

I have only started the course couple of days ago not knowing what to really expect. Ive been singing all my life and always wanted to understand the technique of doing it correctly. Now, that I have more time to focus on vocal exercises I can practice with John's help every day. It almost feels like he's there in a room with me. Some lessons I deliberately go through a few times just to be sure I get the understanding of the techniques. I am yet to master placing and covering but its a good start! Not sure if this course if good for the beginners but those who have sang for a while will definitely enjoy it!!!

Since starting this course in August I have improved a lot. John is a very experienced teacher and his teaching style is simple, effective, to the point, and best of all - natural! Prior to this I was taking lessons in person and wasn't seeing much improvement in my voice. I love that he emphasizes breathing and our exercises focus on strengthening the diaphragm while singing. I have been going through this course slowly as John reminds us that developing the voice takes time so there is no rush. I feel truly grateful to have found this course - thank you John.

très intéressant, la demi-étoile manquante, c'est que je suis francophone et je ne comprend pas tout ce qu'il dit, mais bravo, très instructif

By Belinda Metlitzky Silbert on 6/2/2017

I would like recommend this course to singers at any level. I myself have been a professional singer (opera) for decades and it is rare to encounter the wisdom of a teacher of the ilk of John Oxley. He has found a way to distil his wisdom and the experience of so many years in the industry in a way that is both user-friendly and profound. I have benefited from this course personally and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others who would like to learn in a way that will safeguard the health of their vocal instruments whilst ensuring the development of a strong foundation of sound technique upon which to build a career.

By David Evans on 3/28/2017

I have been working steadily through the course and bringing my improved technique to my work as a professional actor and storyteller. There is no doubt in my mind that if you stick to the course you will continue to reap the benefits and develop singing skills that will enrich and preserve your voice for many years. But don't fool yourself into thinking it should happen all at once - it certainly did not in my case. This continues to be a life-affirming journey for me.
