Learn Ruby on Rails from Scratch (Udemy.com)

I had previously worked on Rails version 3.2 to 4.0 and then subsequently became more involved with JS and Front end. So for some reason, I had to work on Rails again and I took this course as quick refresher, seeing as this was not too big a course. And it was the right decision for me as I could rework or recollect pretty much everything I had studied done before and that helped me in the Rails project I was working on. But If you are learning Rails from Scratch, either as a programmer working on some existing domain or as a total beginner, then you should avoid this course. It simply skips the core and details of Rails which I believe are mandatory for any Rails beginner . Stuff like ActiveRecord associations, TDD which are fairly essentials in my opinion. Plus the pricing of the course is higher than a few courses I found on Udemy which almost have 2-3 times more lectures and content. So in a nutshel, Good for Rails refresh, but skip for beginners and learners.

The course is nice, and would recommend it to the novice developers. As others have mentioned the video quality and editing could be better, but I am okay with that given the course consistency and easiness of perception. One thing to mention though: don't use Notepad++, there a lot of tools (some of them are free) out there now.

Short and useful, despite of it's old. My advice (if you have any experience in programming and HTML, but not in RoR) is to watch it in a whole on x1,5 speed without making any code and just adding bookmarks. After it just start your project and get back to your bookmarks. Super cool dive in into RoR. And there is no scaffolding (only to show what is it. Thank you!)

Not bad but focusing more on windows installs than I'd like. Too many bits of superfluous clutter that could have been pared back, like having to close windows or tabs at the start of a video, having to pause to work out what's gone wrong. Also, unregistered software (sublime) - really?! Overall it felt a bit unpolished, and the idea of not needing tests and the style of css implemented made it all feel a bit dated. Reasonable intro but much room for improvement.

I say Udemy is a lot more easy to follow compare to others, the only thing is I think (my opinion only) the apps/links used in this video is not updated. Its like the video here is teaching Ruby 1.9.3 while today its already Ruby 2.2.6 or even higher. On the other hand... this situation puts you to think, search and gather more information and resources through the internet and that is really good because it teaches you to think more...

Easy to follow with good explanations. I had to keep stopping to take notes because there is so much content in a little space. Excellent! This topic is complex and succinct examples and explanations are wonderful. I switched to this from a much longer course because it seemed to move too slowly and I want to learn quicker. I don't feel I need to, but I'll be going through the longer course when I'm done with this. When I do, with a good understanding of the core info from here. So, if the other course adds anything, nuance, more examples, etc, I'll be able to focus on that because I'm getting a great understanding from what I've learned here. Thank you!

Some details were navigated too quickly (lots of rewinding), and a few times the reasons for performing certain steps were overlooked or glossed over, but overall I feel like I got a a good understanding of ROR development. Since I specialize in QA, some of the reasons why things are done are more important than syntax. Some of the fundamentals as to how pieces communicate with one another were discussed, but weren't explained well enough to get a grasp, but I'm sure if I re-watch some of the earlier sections the info is there.

Very detailed but simple. I found some follow up problems, which I expected based on latest update sources. And was not easy to find solutions around. StackOverflow is my savior in those cases. Though I assumed there would be more information from communities. So far the course has been great... Learning a lot from it.

Course outline is very good. Very helpful for the beginners even though its taught on old version. you will get many errors if you work on new version of rails. few gems are even migrated to new. I recommend to take this course if you are very new to rails but not to programming. You must have programming background to follow what is he speaking.

The instructor needs to go back and redo the entire course. How are you supposed to effectively learn when the instructor continuously makes mistakes. Tip for the instructor, when using git bash you are at a linux style command prompt, hence why cd C:\Sites\myrubyblog never worked as the \ symbol escapes the following letter I would not recommend this course to anyone in its current state
