Course Description
As a developer, you know the importance of CSS— and you also know how CSS can become cumbersome, disorganized and repetitive. Maybe your CSS performs poorly, or, maybe your just spending too much time digging through CSS code to solve minor display issues.
Stop wasting time tearing your hair out over confusing or poor performing CSS.
With Learn SASS and SCSS with Dave Moran, you'll be introduced to the technologies of SASS (Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets) and SCSS (Sassy CSS). If you're not familiar with these important advances in the CSS world, SASS is a CSS pre-processor with syntax advancements. Style sheets in the advanced syntax are processed, and turned into regular CSS style sheets. SCSS is a super set of CSS, expanded to accommodate the features of SASS. SASS can be used with any version of CSS and all CSS libraries are compatible.
In this course you'll do more than watch demonstrations from an expert instructor. Dave will invite you to code along as you go from SASS newbie to expert. You'll complete this course ready to integrate SASS workflow and SCSS syntax in to your own development projects. To insure that you retain the information presented, Dave has prepared several code exercises to help you get the hang of things.
With over 1,000,000 enrollments world wide LearnToProgram brings you instructors who are teachers first-- Our instructors are able to take complex technical information and make it understandable for just about anyone. The content was helpful, but there was definitely some editing needed. There are several moments left in where the instructor starts saying something, flubs a word or two, and then restarts from the beginning of the sentence. In addition, the provided starting point files often have some of the work completed, with the most egregious example being the landing page files that will not compile when watching them with SASS because there is an undefined variable that was left in. This course needs a bit of maintenance to be brought up to a higher level, as it stands you have to fix some of the issues yourself (which amounts to guessing, more often than not) simply due to oversights in file preparation.

The course started strong, but seemed to lack explanation, and speed up as the more complicated content was introduced. Also the editing seemed to degrade as it went on as well, as if the instructor had to rush it to get it done.

THIS is what I needed to really understand SASS, because it can be very useful, but I never get the point of it untill now. Dave Moran goes to every single step, and he gives all the documentation needed to get trough it. Most impotrtant thing is I can start working with SASS from the moment I finised the course. This course worths every second I've spent on it.I tottaly recommend it.

The information is excellent and the presenter does a good job of keeping the pace up. Two caveats. Maybe there should be a second or two added to the "pause the video and try it now" places and a couple of sections need to be reviewed for editing - especially the segmenting of the cupcake landing page. This course is very accessible for anyone with a basic working knowledge of css. I think SASS makes CSS more approachable and definitely more manageable. Thanks Dave for a great course!

The course is pretty well thought out and concise. The instructor is easy to follow and explains things well. His explaining of the segmenting code into different component files was explained very well. My only complaint was that he switches between projects often. It was be nice if there was a single project that you worked on along the way that included everything that he was explaining. However, the course has definitely been worth taking. I feel more knowledgeable with SASS now.

All in all I felt it was a good course. I look forward to more from the author. I also recognize that some of my opinions can be a product of my own experience level. I am sure others have a completely different view. I consider myself an intermediate level user of html and css. Even though I do use them everyday professionally, I am not an expert. I do feel that the prerequisites for the course may be understated. A beginner would probably be lost and fail to understand the usefulness of sass. Some issues: In Lab 3, step 5, the *_final.zip, the "bakery-brown" variable appeared in the code I downloaded and caused an error before variables were introduced. The base/_settings.scss was put in before any explanation of its use. In video 30 the linear-gradient was deprecated producing a Bourbon error. I wonder if the side track into Bourbon added value? The pdf specifications for the Labs could not always be found when they are first mentioned in the narrative. It was not obvious how to get the Lab files. There was a fair amount of broken audio around section 6. Thanks for a good course, I learned a lot, and I look forward to more from the author. David M.

The course is well segmented, the instructions are clear and there are challenges/labs to test your learning throughout the lessons. I enjoyed the course very much and feel I have a grasp of the subject rather quickly. The instructor is likeable and speaks at a good pace. The best practices section is really great, wish more courses did that. Overall great course!

It is very well defined in building each step for SASS. Each section of the lecture is tied into the next and it very easy to follow. I like the way of building the SASS files after each introduction of the next concept (Nesting, Segmentation, then adding the variables). The only thing is needed is to elaborate on the Bourbon Plugin. Why was it only @import .bourbon/bourbon in the file when there were other folders there? Just need to know how all the other folders are related and used. Other than this, the course was excellent. I was able to learn how SASS is very useful with HTML and CSS.

Clear instructions and easy for beginners i found this course was straightforward to follow with lots of examples to work along with the instructor and the labs were not complicated nor confusing. Labs were very related to what was learned prior with nothing new added in like in some courses that confuse you.

Very well explained topic. The course show how to: - transforming CSS to SCSS - from the beginning, writing full sass - step by step, while learning new things - build project with good practice of using sass (sass files structure) - do things in sass but also why do things in specified way. Not much boring theory, but practising everything by building real project (classic to-do list site). Great for people who want to learn sass, or (like me) for those who need to refresh knowledge about sass.
