Learning How to Learn From Video Courses (Udemy.com)

The aim of this course is to highlight to students that learning from self-paced video courses is different and harder than learning from in person in-class courses. The course/instructor delivers Pros: I gained a lot of "uncommon knowledge" about what to look out for, why many people are not as successful learning from a video course ( due to common subconscious attitudes, mistakes and misconceptions ), Then techniques are offered to remedy these barriers. This is useful knowledge not offered anywhere else. In fact I believe that Udemy should make this course free but offer Ms. Seberson full compensation for it as the course is an owner's manual for how to use Udemy's products...namely the courses. One thing that I found extremely helpful was the simple formula offered for estimating the actual time spent on course. Simple yet useful. Cons: The course is old and has apparently not been updated recently. Many of the resources of the course are offered as links to web-articles which are stale ( i.e. they don't open ). Finally there are one or two editing bloopers and gaffes which would be entertaining but actually diminish the professionalism that is projected elsewhere in the other videos of the course. Why 4.5 stars? The 0.5 was subtracted because of all the things I perceived and mentioned under the "Cons:" heading. Overall? Very much recommended. Also look at the number of students enrolled for this one....telling!

This course turned out to be exactly what I needed, even though I first watched it while feeling overwhelmed. The instructor delivers clear, useful advice on: • Estimating how much time a course will really take • Finding high-quality classes online • Applying proven study techniques • Staying focused and productive when you work or learn from home Her personal examples make the material relatable, and the occasional bloopers/edits actually add a bit of charm. A tighter edit would earn that fifth star, but overall it’s a solid guide for anyone who wants to learn more efficiently.

So, after taking the Course " Learning How to learn From Video Courses" I have been challenged: I found out that the methods I'm used to are mostly wrong! Anyways, they worked just fine to a late owl guy, but then, looking back, it appears that I could have been at a far better learning phase had I adopted the techniques in these lectures. Clearly, scarcity works to our advantage, because we tend to apply more focus in class as it is clear we may never have that moment as is with learning from videos which we think, in a vain illusion that we may always go back whenever we stack. Katya, thank you for the lessons in this course, at least some folk can apply a well-structured learning culture.

This information was sooooo much bigger, in scope, and better, than I anicipated!! Not only does Katya give practical tips on helping to retain information learned, she also shares fascinating information related to neurological processes and it really helped me put 2 and 2 together on some things I've been going through, and I'm feeling more & more hopeful & inspired to continue my virtual learning path. The day I finished the course, I immediately started it over and began using the tips she offers, from the beginning. That evening, hubby & I had a really good convo about everything that was going through my mind (funnily enough, about the neurology stuff, not the note-taking tips) and he decided to watch it, too; even though he is neurotypical and hasn't really had any interest in learning with virtual courses (he's about 1/3 of the way through). I can't recommend Katya's course enough! Take it!! Even if you don't think you need it!! You NEED it! It's the information you didn't know you needed!

so, just finished watching the whole course to get a good idea of it & now I am going to go back to Chapter one and will rewatch it again & revise my notes and do all the exercises.. although it's an interesting course But personally I find there was way too much fluff and not enough data to match the title, learned a few tit bits and technics but it definitely isnt going to make me become a WAY better learner in video watching in a nutshell if you are looking for technics on how to become more efficient in video courses, I don't think this course is for you or else you'll be as disappointed as I am

I found the information on how to get started and transitioning into focused mode very interesting. there were also many aha moments when something that I had been doing or experiencing suddenly made sense, eg going to bed and suddenly remembering an important fact in the morning! I did find that the course only focused on one type of study method though and that can be a problem if you just "don't gel' with with that method. I will attempt to use this method but will also have to implement my own study types such as movement, speaking, teaching etc...

As someone who historically has been easily distracted while taking video courses, Katya provided me with the techniques and actionable items to overcome this bad habit. As a result, I highly recommend this course, especially for avid video course learners such as myself.

The first 3/4 of the course were above my expectations, and explained why videos didn't revolutionize the education system, the last quarter was repetition of the first and a few assumptions about the brain that I can't agree with.
Still the course is one of the good ones.

Instructor pointed out so many good points about video courses - loved how she explains and gave examples and ideas.
