LPI Linux Essentials 010-160 (6 Practice Exams) (Udemy.com)

Full-length LPI Linux Essentials Timed Tests ** 40 Questions Each & 240 Questions Total (With feedback on each question)

Created by: Jason Dion

Last updated September 2026

Our take

Based on the ratings of 3,403 students and a sample of their written reviews, as the course stood in September 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is a question bank, not a class. It holds six timed practice exams of 40 questions each, 240 in total, built around the LPI Linux Essentials 010-160 objectives. After every attempt you get a score and a written explanation for each question. There are no lectures or labs. The requirements list a video course or textbook, and reviewers treat it that way: something to reinforce what you already studied. About 27,000 students have enrolled, and it was refreshed in September 2026.

Most of the 3,403 ratings are good, with 2,124 at five stars. Reviewers like the clear explanations when they miss a question, and they use repeat attempts to find weak areas. Jason Dion's questions are called clearly worded. The complaints are consistent, though. Several people report duplicate questions, both within a test and across tests, plus some overlap with the final tests in his video course. Others say the questions run easier than the real exam, offer only one answer each where the exam allows multiple selections, or touch topics outside the official book. One reviewer also reported a scoring glitch with skipped answers.

The split in opinion is about exam match. Some reviewers passed, and one said the tests covered every key topic. Another scored around 90% here and still failed, and one passer said none of the practice questions appeared on the real exam. So treat it as a cheap way to practice recall under a timer. Pair it with the official LPI material and some hands-on time in a terminal, and don't memorize the answers.

Best forAnyone who has finished a Linux Essentials video course or book and wants timed quizzes to find weak spots.
Skip it ifYou want questions that closely mirror the real exam, or you are starting Linux from zero with no study material.

Pros

  • Every question comes with an explanation of why the right answer is right, which reviewers find easy to follow
  • Timed 40-question tests with a score after each attempt, so weak areas show up before exam day
  • Questions are clearly worded and spread across the main 010-160 topic areas
  • Updated in September 2026, with a large base of about 27,000 students and a 4.5 average rating

Cons

  • Reviewers report repeated questions within and between tests, and overlap with Dion's video course final tests
  • Several reviewers say the questions are easier than, and unlike, the real exam; one scored 90% and failed
  • Single-answer format only, with no hands-on labs and a few off-syllabus questions
It’s easy to understand and learn. Even if you get a question wrong the explanation for the right answers are very easy to understand.

The questions were very clear, but a few of them were a bit too easy, I think. Disappointingly, some of the questions were used in the final tests at the end of Jason's Linux Essentials Udemy course, and a few even repeated within this set as well. Despite this, I would still definitely recommend using these tests if you are planning on taking the exam, as there are enough good questions in here to test your knowledge. Overall, I would say this is pretty good value for the price, if not perfect, and I would have given it a higher rating if some of the questions weren't reused.

For me, when I am studying for a certification, I like to go through the material a time or two, and then do a lot of practice tests so I can identify where I am week, and do additional labs or content to really drill down into those weak areas. This set of tests gives me the confidence that I have accurately identified my weak areas before I write the exam.

Practice Exam vs. Real Exam I took the exam today and passed. None of the practice questions appeared in the actual test, so don’t rely on memorizing answers. That won’t be enough to pass. The practice exams do cover all key topics, so for example, if you see “ls” in the simulator, make sure you learn the most important parameters, not only the ones shown there. The same applies to every command and concepts covered here. Studying the exam topics through a course or structured material is essential, and using this simulator as a way to reinforce and practice what you learned is very effective. Regarding the practice exams : Strengths: There are 240 questions covering all the topics on the exam. The structure and style of the questions are aligned with what you can expect in the real test, so it helps you get used to the format. Weaknesses: They don’t fully reflect the actual exam experience. In the real exam, you’ll find questions where you need to select two or even three correct answers. The practice tests don’t include those. The real exam also has open-text questions, where you need to type the command or a specific parameter. That’s also missing here. Another area that could be improved is the explanation of answers. The simulator doesn’t justify why the wrong answers are incorrect, which would help reinforce learning.

I took the Certificate Today :D The Course + the tests helped a lot, however you need to also check the LPI official documentation and cover any blank spots if needed for a comfortable passing. Thanks Jason :)

I just passed LPI Linux Essentials and part of it was thanks to these set of tests. These set of practice tests were really close to the real thing and gave me the objectives that I need to review to get myself ready for the exam, I'm not sure why there's people that have commented here and on other networks that these questions are not close to the exam; they certainly were!

I did a linux course in my university program a few months ago and got a voucher for essentials exam discounted. I had watched the diontraining video on linked in during it and did well. Decided this week to take the test, reviewed my course from start to finish, didn't rewatch the videos from diontraining but did buy these tests. Between these and the course I took got 730. Took 9 minutes. Alone, either of these I think I would of passed, but not as well. Taken together amazing results. 15 bucks for these tests was worth the money to me, I would definitely recommend as a good finish to any intro to linux course.

Very useful. The questions were pretty good. The question reviews were helpful. The actual test seemed a bit harder than the practice exams. My score was still well within passing so, this was worth the time. But it might be possible that an update to the sample questions is in order. Note: I did not take the associated prep course from the author. I took another offered elsewhere. Perhaps that half a star I slighted from the score was more my shortcoming than the author's. Overall, very good!

These are standard practice questions and made me refer back to my notes for further study. It has greatly improved my knowledge and confidence level. Thanks and I can say I am prepared to take the real test. Thanks Once again

These exams are an excellent supplement to the main course. The wording is nearly exact to some of what I saw on the real exam. Keep in mind, you need to know the material, not just memorize it, because the real test has a few fill in the blank questions, and a few questions where you select more than one answer.

By Michael Jacobs on 3/29/2021

I really like Dion's practice exams for the CompTIA certs, but after taking the Linux Essentials v1.6, I thought these didn't hold up as well. Don't get me wrong, these are definitely the best Linux Essentials practice exams I had come across, and the wording on the real exam is identical. But these practice exams I felt weren't a good representation of the real exam's difficulty. I was scoring 90%'s on these before taking the exam, and the real thing was much harder. But, I can't complain if these helped me pass.
