LPI Linux Essentials (010-160) Complete Course (Udemy.com)

LPI Linux Essentials (010-160) Bootcamp - Your guide to passing your LPI Linux Essentials (010-160) certification exam!

Created by: Jason Dion

Last updated September 2026

Our take

Based on the ratings of 11,628 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in September 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

Jason Dion's course is a short, exam-focused tour of the five LPI Linux Essentials domains. It runs about 7.3 hours over 82 lectures, with 14 quizzes and two full practice exams. Nothing is required beyond a computer to install Linux on. The audience list points at new IT people, service desk analysts and cybersecurity staff who need Linux basics. It has 53,784 students and was last updated in September 2026, so it is being maintained.

Reviewers like how plainly Jason explains things. Some say each bit of theory is followed by a hands-on demo they can copy along with, and several say the practice exams helped them pass. The complaints are heavier than the 4.6 rating suggests. A cluster of low reviews says the videos do not cover enough of what the practice tests and the real exam ask, and a few call parts outdated or off scope. One reviewer says the VirtualBox and Ubuntu install video needs a refresh.

Of 11,628 ratings, 7,432 are five stars and only 197 are one or two stars, so most people leave happy. Still, the safe plan is to treat this as the core course and add LPI's official study material plus real time in a terminal. That matches what the reviewers who passed describe. It is a quick, friendly first pass for beginners, but not a one-stop guarantee for the exam.

Best forBeginners and service desk staff who want a short, plain-spoken first pass at Linux Essentials with practice exams.
Skip it ifYou plan to rely on one course alone for the 010-160 exam, or you already work comfortably in a Linux shell.

Pros

  • Theory is followed by hands-on terminal demos that reviewers say make the commands stick
  • Jason's no-nonsense, easy-to-follow teaching style gets steady praise from repeat Dion students
  • Two full practice exams and 14 quizzes give a way to check readiness before booking
  • Short at about 7.3 hours, with a September 2026 update showing it is maintained

Cons

  • Several reviewers say practice test questions cover things the videos never mention
  • Some low reviews call parts outdated or beyond what the current exam needs, which blurs what to study
  • The VirtualBox and Ubuntu install video is dated; one reviewer needed outside help to get set up
The course is very well designed. What I particularly like is that theoretical instructions are followed by practical lessons which solidify the concepts learnt.
Aseem Sharma, a student

Beginner level fits, with no prerequisites, but the exam goes deeper than the videos, so extra reading helps.

What Other Students Are Saying About My Certification Courses:

  • The course was great, I took an entire week to watch the course and do the practice exams. Jason is great at explaining the concepts, and I'm happy to say that I am now certified! (Fernando D., 5 stars)

  • Once again I am impressed with this course from Jason. His teaching style is spot and his explanation of the course work perfect. Would recommend this course for anyone looking to get a start in Linux system administration, or wish just to learn the basics for personal knowledge. (Paul S., 5 stars)

  • I just took my test and passed on the first try. This course covered everything I needed. Take the Practice exams, and section quizzes a few times until you are comfortable. It will be a huge help. (Ryan Mooney 5 stars)

  • Hello Mr Dion, I'm Italian user and I studied your course, as well as other courses and along with the official resource available at the LPI(.)org website. Today I successfully passed this first exam. Now I have to prepare for the next LPIC 1. Thank you for your work. Your explanations covered at least 95% of the exam questions, but I advise everyone to prepare a lot with other tools and practice a lot on a distro, because some questions on the test you can only answer because you really practiced. See you with next course. THANK YOU (Cristina Di Martino, 5 stars)

Upon completion of this course, you will earn 8 CEUs towards the renewal of your CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Linux+, Cloud+, PenTest+, CySA+, or CASP+ certifications.

This is my 2nd Dion Traing Course and I've got to say that Jason presents this information in a very no nonsense way but that is also very easy to understand and learn. I am just starting out on Linux and he has taught me more in just a few short videos than I have been able to learn from AI or other online videos. Well worth it! Thank you Jason!

By Traneceya Collier on 5/15/2026

This was a great course, especially for a beginner in Linux or someone who knows the commands but doesn't really understand why to use them. I loved it. My only recommendation is to update the video regarding how to download and install VirtualBox and Ubuntu. I had to troubleshoot mine using Gemini just to get it operational. 5/5, would always recommend Dion Training.

By Andrew Euler on 5/12/2026

Jason Dion Training provides easy, fast, and comprehensive review needed for the LPI Linux Essentials (010-60) exam. Personally, I used this course to focus on key things I didn't know yet pertaining to some linux commands, like dmesg, the kernel ring buffer. Then I mainly utilized the practice exam to do some quick preparation before the exam. On exam day, I felt the most confident on a certification exam that I have in a long while, so utilizing what the course offers can help you achieve a passing score. Originally found you guys on Udemy for your Network+ and Security+ course content, and those were extremely useful as well in the past. Keep up the great work!

Dion is a great teacher and expert, after many years of being out of the IT world after school, he can immediately put you on the IT as not a single day is passed. Nice courses!

By Adriana Ramirez on 4/7/2026

Excellent course. I don't clearly find the contents by topic of the Official Linux LPI Essentials Guide but its covering all the information with clear explanantions and is being very helpful for me :)

By Joseph Karmer on 3/11/2026

I feel like this is a good course to start learning about Linux. He walks you thru using VirtualBox for a Free Setup with the PC you already have. He breaks down the material so that it's easy to understand and makes sense with how it is applied.

By Justin Doran on 1/25/2026

In my opinion, the course should stick to whats covered in the exam so that learners are not being inundated with information that isn't directly used in the exam. There could be another course, like an "Extended" version, for the learners who need to know more about the topics. However, for a course that is specifically geared towards helping people learn the information to help them pass the exam, the extra bits are unnecessary even though they're beneficial to some. The points on the videos that show where people stopped and took notes is a good example. 1 15-20 minute video shouldn't have just 1 part in the beginning where learners stopped to take notes.

By Jamie Reier on 1/1/2026

Its been great so far, just trying to take it all in and get used to using the differnt commands. It seems hectic right now, but im sure with practice it will make it a lot easier
