Tom Meservy's course is a short PowerShell primer. It has 31 lectures across seven sections and runs about two hours. The topics are the ones a new admin needs first: data types, cmdlets, aliases, working with objects, sorting, filtering, loops, formatting output, arrays, hash tables, importing and saving data, then functions and scripts. The last section, about 34 minutes, builds a script that organizes files. It is aimed at sys admins and anyone responsible for IT, and it assumes a Windows PC.

Reviewers like how little time it wastes. One calls it straight to the point with no filler and clean audio. Another finished in a day and followed along with a few pauses. Students also praise Meservy's examples as easy to apply. The complaints are consistent too. Several say it is too short and under-explained, one says it feels more like documentation or a presentation than a course, and another felt the videos did not prepare them for the final script. A couple of learners were puzzled by specific lines of code and wanted them unpacked.

The recording dates from August 2016, so treat it as a foundation, not a current reference. The ratings are strong anyway: roughly 17,600 of about 20,100 are four or five stars, and around 400 are one or two. I sent one question where $res - eq 1 was always true regardless of what value $res was -- whether it was "OK 0" or "OK 1" returning from the CheckFolder function. I don't understand how that can be.

Great course, but short to the point. I've seen different ways to build scripts with some using the functions while others using commands like Write-Host. I do wish this course could have covered other parts of Windows using Powershell with the firewall, services, registry, or installed software.
