Course Description
Artificial Intelligence is transforming the world — but with great power comes great responsibility. How do we make sure AI systems are fair, safe, transparent, and trustworthy? Microsoft has answered that challenge with the Responsible AI Standard, a practical framework that turns ethical principles into actionable requirements.
In this course, you’ll learn exactly how Microsoft applies Responsible AI across the entire AI lifecycle — from planning and design, through development and deployment, to ongoing monitoring. We’ll break down the six core principles (Fairness, Reliability & Safety, Privacy & Security, Inclusiveness, Transparency, and Accountability), explore the Responsible AI Standard v2, and examine real-world case studies like the Tay chatbot and facial recognition bias. You’ll also look ahead to the future of AI regulation and generative AI, so you’re prepared for what’s coming next.
Along the way, you’ll see how Responsible AI helps organizations reduce risk, meet regulatory expectations, and build trust with customers and society. You’ll gain insights not just into the theory, but also the governance practices, oversight processes, and cultural changes needed to make Responsible AI real inside an organization.
Whether you’re a business leader, compliance professional, developer, or simply curious about AI ethics, this course gives you the knowledge and tools to engage with AI responsibly. By the end, you’ll not only understand Microsoft’s Responsible AI Standard — you’ll know how to apply its principles to evaluate, design, and manage AI systems in the real world.

Scott Duffy
Hi there, my name is Scott Duffy. And I love making complex technical topics easy to understand.
This has been the basis of my entire career – as a developer, as a development manager, as a software architect – over the past 20 years. I spend half my time in the world of business, explaining complex technical topics to business owners and stakeholders so that they can understand and agree with my approach to solving their business problems with technical solutions. And the other half with developers, explaining the business reasons behind decisions and ensuring that any decisions made on the technical side don't restrict the business in unexpected ways.
And I'm here on Udemy to teach what I know in an approachable way. I started teaching courses in 2014, and have taught over 1,600,000 students. I am grateful every day for being able to connect with so many students in almost every country around the world.
I'm a certified Enterprise Architect and certified cloud architect. I have been developing with Microsoft technologies for 20 years, starting with Classic ASP, and all the versions of .NET. We now live in the cloud era, with Microsoft Azure being prevalent in most large enterprises. I'm certified as an Azure Architect and Developer too. As well as AWS Solution Architect Associate (SAA).
Microsoft MVP Award winner for 2022-2025.

I initially found the role-play unnerving but found it really interesting and useful for assessment and brainstorming. Great curriculum innovation.

Great overview, also really helpful to see the dashboard in action - especially being on the business side. Having insight into how these systems are developed from the developer point of view really shows transparency

The platform is easy to navigate, offers overview, Q&A, a notes section aligned with the video timing, announcements, and learning tools. The videos are clear and easy to understand.

Good introduction. Would love to see more updates in 2026 (e.g., how MS RAI Standard informed NIST AI RMF, etc.) But overall, very informative and easy to follow.

Responsible AI isn't optional; it is essential. I enjoyed learning how the six principles of the AI framework is integrated to practice to strengthen the ethics of the system.

Great content and delivery. It certainly provided a foray into the concrete list of processes, as recommended by Microsoft. This course provides a great basis for my learning on evolving AI Governance

I enjoyed the content, the quick knowledge checks, and being able to pause as needed. I was a little confused by the Role Play. Perhaps I missed additional info, but it seemed that there was one short paragraph explaining the exercise, but no additional info that would have been helpful in reaching the goals within the exercise.
