Modern Android app using Kotlin, MVVM, Dagger2, RxJava &more (Udemy.com)

Good explanations and examples. But the gradle was so old that I spend 1 hour to complete the first part and 2 hours to fix the gradle and run the application. When the courses are so aged it would be nice an additional simple page with upgrade instructions or links where to find those instructions. Otherwise, the joy of coding is partially spoilt by the frustration. But in general I have liked the topics and the explanations for each line code that could have been obscure. Thanks

It's a good course to start on MVVM, RxJava, Retrofit, Dependency Injection, and Unit Testing. Catalin has done a wonderful job explaining all of the terms in a good and efficient way so that a beginner could understand and get along with these android technologies. I am satisfied with content of this course.

It's a good course because the instructor is very clear at the time to explain the content. The example application is very simple but it is a good thing if you are new with this pattern because is easier to learn. I would like a new course with more advanced content to continue learning. Really great course. I enjoyed the simplicity of the app as it covered many technologies, so made it easier to understand. I had not found a course until now that covered Dependency Injection, MVVM, RxJava communication, Image Loading/Caching along with Unit testing with Mock and DI, until now. This course shows how to use the DI technology and Unit test(Dagger2 and ReactiveX) and others. It is good to get started if you are wanting to use those technologies but feel this course should be a little longer. The extra time used to talk more about how The technology works rather then just some code on how to implement it. Overall, the course was worth taking.

If you are looking for the basics about the new technologies, this course is the correct one. I really like the way Catalin gives the course, he knows the technologies and comes to the point in each topic. Personally, I love his English, it is properly and clear for non-native people. Something I think you could improve is to explain a little bit more about the topics, in my case, I had doubts about unit testing, but you gave me the basics to get a better understood when in the future I research by myself about intermediate topics of unit tests. Enjoyed the course. Inadvertently learnt about AndroidX, which was a bonus. Stopped just short of 5 start because I would have liked a few more challenges earlier in the course. However, I realise a lot was covered in a short time. I now have a feel for these technologies, which was the aim for me.

I was expecting more advance Dagger2 samples with Multi binding and ViewModelFactory sample. One thing i felt rather than injecting DaggerComponent in every class, can we inject only once in DaggerApplication class? What will happen if same view model required in 2 Activity how we can solve that in Dagger2. Is it a good way to use AndroidInjector, MapKey, ViewModelProvider.Factory or the basic way which you have defined in the current course?

I was preparing for the interviews. He explained things well, but from the top-level only. No deep knowledge about view model, how view model works, about lifecycle awareness. You can easily find such kind of tutorial on youtube for free.

The course is Ok. Maybe that's all it fits for 3-hours. First, the MVVM section shows just an shallow example of the Android Arch Components, but not explaining the inner mechanisms behind it. The application itself could be a little more complex. Maybe a Detail Fragment / Activity? Also, the course should cover somethings like Navigation from ViewModel to ViewModel. Also, since the section was talking about Architecture, I thought there would be a more reasonable project structure besides model, viewModel, ui folders. Maybe some explanation on Clean Architecture? For someone with an intermediate knowledge, taking a course about some intermediate level contents of Android, I was seeking for something more advanced. The Retrofit section includes some RxJava and is good. But again, it doesn't cover major things from Retrofit. There's only a GET request. Not even POST was cover. Nor composite services. Dependency injection was fine, but the teacher could have explained the main Dagger blocks better. Finally, Unit Testing was ok. But I felt like a little lost when talking about the Schedulers Mock. Also, the Rules were merely covered. In fact, there was a variable Rule over there, but wasn't even used. Mockito is easy, so maybe there wasn't much to cover, except maybe how to run all tests at once, or how to run the tests outside Android Studio. In the end, the course shows you what it says it will, but it does not exactly Teach you what you are doing. But definitely, the worst is the fact that the teacher does not "zoom" the video to the code. So he has the whole Android Studio window open, making it impossible to follow along what he's doing with my own Android Studio window side by side. That's the first Udemy course I take which has this problem.
