Catalin Stefan's course starts from zero. Kotlin takes the biggest chunk, 61 lectures and about seven hours, then come coroutines, Android Studio setup, Compose components, scaffolds, navigation, and activities and intents. Four projects are spread through it: Tic Tac Toe, a visited cities app, a Facebook-style navigation app and a photo editor. In total it runs about 22 hours over 167 lectures, with around 3,000 students enrolled. The description promises architecture, testing and publishing, but the syllabus shows no sections on those.

Reviewers like the teaching. They call it clear, orderly and step by step, and one former teacher says they were impressed by the method. Of 470 ratings, 298 are five stars and 123 are four. The complaints are consistent, though. Navigation, drawer and other components are outdated, so newer Android Studio versions throw errors and students end up searching or asking ChatGPT. Several say networking, Room, testing and architecture never appear. One says questions in the Q&A go unanswered, and another says it shows what to type but not why.

The course was last updated in February 2026, yet reviewers still call parts of it dated, so the refresh did not reach everything. Treat it as a friendly first pass at Kotlin and Compose, not a path to a job. Beginners who can live with some googling get decent value. Anyone after Retrofit, MVVM or production habits should pair it with another course.

Much of this course won't work in today's version of Android Studio. I have learn a lot, there are many great things about this course, but there are parts that I have to just rely on Chat GPT in order for them to work. There are a lot of things missing, like RetroFit, MVVP, Room, etc. The recording is also so zoomed out, that is hard to see what he is doing TLDR, it's an ok course, but it's not the one and only course to rely on

Finally, an Android course using Kotlin/Jetpack Composable well explained by a professional teacher Catalin Stefan. Lectures using Android Studio Jellyfish (2023.3.1 built 4/12/2024) worked well for Android12/Moto g 2023 when ignoring all AGP (Android Gradle Plugin) update suggestions.

The teacher is good and I really like his teaching style, unfortunately important sections on how to manage the MVVM architecture are missing, the Room database is missing, the management of the up button is missing and some parts of the code are obsolete. I think the teacher left the course incomplete for some reason, too bad, I liked his style.

I took the course as an ios developer. It was as I expected, if you don't have any prior coding knowledge, you may have a little difficulty understanding the "jetpack compose" part, other than that, the examples given may be a bit heavy. For example, a person who will start from scratch will be greeted with code examples such as the illumination of the picture when they take this course. That can be very boring for a junior.

I started my journey for mobile app development with Flutter and Dart, but soon discovered that I need more knowledge in the native systems. As an Apple user I continued with Swift, UIKit and SwiftUI, and now I need to go on to the "dark side". I almost finished the course (had skipped the FB session). I learned a lot from this course, but unfortunately many important features are still missing, such as persistent data storage, Internet access, app publishing etc.
