Course Description

Let me tell you a Moroccan joke I heard when I was in Marrakech !

A French teacher told her student : what is your name?

-The student said : my name is Miloud  (Arabic male name)

-Teacher said :from now on your name will be Philip.

The kid went home thinking he became Philip.

-His parents call on him. Hey Miloud bring me this. ... . Miloud doesn't answer.

-Miloud do that. .... still don't answer .so his father got really angry and gave his boy a black eye .

Day after that Miloud went back to school.

-Teacher asked him: Philip what is wrong with your eye?

-Miloud replied : The Arabs hit me! !

Do you find it funny ? ,if you do then congraguations you have an easygoing personality but don't you feel it would have been a lot funnier

if I told you this exact same joke In Moroccan and you understood it in its original context ,that would have left you with an extraordinary

feeling no one can experience but you . This is what passed my mind when I heard this joke from an old man in Marrakech old city.

Everyone was laughing then at the joke except a couple of tourists who didn't understand what was going on .I felt sorry for them so I

decided to do something about it .And here I am,I found myself teaching online and finally found my purpose in life .

It is very good. I like the tempo of his speaking the words and I like learning a word for each letter. We weren't told the meeting of "raas" on your video, and I wasn't sure if zarbeeya meant "a rock" or "Iraq". But other than that, I like the course so far.

This course is perfect and the teacher is the same. Every topic's explained in a good manner and professional. I've been in Morocco for improving my MSA level and when I saw this course, I thought this is really a coincidence due to I've been thinking to learn one of Arabic colloquials and Moroccan Arabic is the one I love so much. Great job and awesome language. Suggest this

Since I have studied some M S A, it seems familiar, but a different pronuncition. I am listening and reviewing mostly for the sound, and your pronunciation of Moroccan Arabic is nice and slow and clear, broken into syllables, so I am able to understand and hear it well. Good job!

It is a very well-composed course that provides a lot of useful information and some grammar rules. Also, the teacher is explaining quite well all the information and pronunciation. What could be better: There are words and phrases in Darija that are not provided in a written form - spelling in Latin. It makes it difficult to learn and to understand since Arabic writing is too advanced level to follow up. There are some examples that the teacher gives, that do not appear in written form.

By Lyn Q on 9/17/2019

I am a complete beginner to Darija. Unfortunately the teacher speaks quickly and does not always have the English version written with the Darija word so I have no idea how to pronounce the words. I cannot read Darija so without the English I have to guess how to pronounce. Also, his handwriting is very hard to read. I do not think I will learn enough to help while traveling in Morocco. I will need to use a different course.

The lessons are simple to follow. The teacher explains the content well, however, you must really focus since the language is complex, especially if you're an English speaker. I think it is great that the teacher also keeps up with the course and makes himself available. Overall, the teachers voice is easy to listen to and I can comprehend many things. I'm really hoping to have an intermediate proficiency at the end of the course.

I just finished today all lessons and I think this course is totally worth it. On a quick note, I can read in 6 European languages and I can tell anyone reading this review that there are very very few resources to learn Darija either online or in print and many of those are outdated or don't even use Arabic script to teach. This course is, therefore, a gem. I learned a lot and even though it might seem at the beginning that you may not be learning much, after going through the lessons, I became more and more comfortable with the language. Some slides do need minor corrections though, sometimes the words in Arabic do not correspond to the Arabizi and the opposite being also true (last e.g. lesson 58 Had in Arabizi / Haduk in Arabic script) but anyway I'm overall very happy with this course and totally recommend it. Ana ferhan bezaf be dorouss. Shoukran lik bezaf aala l weqt wel mehjoud.

Interesting and challenging course and feel I need to run through it a second time to gain in depth benefit. Not so sure about the written aspects of the language would have liked to explore further. I would have liked more everyday communications i.e. most of us buy coffee regularly and may be more of a link to all students. Overall the course was an excellent start to using this language.
