Course Description

Don't waste your time with 60+ hour behemoth courses that you never finish!  Instead, try this quick and effective pathway to Python that was designed with your sanity in mind.   This course is the perfect first step into the world of data science, web dev, machine learning, or any other discipline that requires Python knowledge.

As an-person coding bootcamp instructor, I created this course to keep you engaged the entire way through.  It's full of exercises, quizzes, challenges, and projects.  The slides, diagrams, and cheatsheets were painstakingly designed to help you visualize the tricky concepts.  There are no 20-minute monster videos in this course; the average video is only 4 minutes long.  Everything about this course has been designed to make it actually completable!

This course covers all the Python essentials you need: everything from variables to data structures to object oriented programming and modules. You’ll fill up your Python toolbox so you can go on and tackle libraries like pandas, flask, scikitlearn, django, and more.

What this course is not:  This course is not a complete guide to every single possible feature in the Python language.  It focuses on the 80% that is absolutely critical and worth your time, but there are other (much longer) courses that are more akin to Python textbooks that take the time to cover every feature.  In fact, I created one of those courses, and it happens to be 40 hours long!

As someone who has both created and purchased massive Udemy mega bootcamp courses, I know they are still the standard format on the platform, but maybe it’s time for something a bit more human and engaging. I thought it was worth a try at least.

Here's a detailed breakdown of what we cover:

  • Painless installation for all platforms and users

  • Working with numbers

  • Python variables

  • Strings and string methods

  • Booleans

  • Conditional Logic

  • Boolean Logic

  • Loops

  • Functions

  • Scope

  • Lists

  • Dictionaries

  • Sets

  • Tuples

  • *args and **kwargs

  • Working with errors

  • Custom modules

  • 3rd party modules

  • PIP

  • Object Oriented Programming

  • Classes

Colt Steele

Hi! I'm Colt. I'm a developer with a serious love for teaching. I've spent the last few years teaching people to program at 2 different immersive bootcamps where I've helped hundreds of people become web developers and change their lives. My graduates work at companies like Google, Salesforce, and Square.

Most recently, I led Galvanize's SF's 6 month immersive program as Lead Instructor and Curriculum Director. After graduating from my class, 94% of my students went on to receive full-time developer roles. I also worked at Udacity as a Senior Course Developer on the web development team where I got to reach thousands of students daily.

I’ve since focused my time on bringing my classroom teaching experience to an online environment. In 2016 I launched my Web Developer Bootcamp course, which has since gone on to become one of the best selling and top rated courses on Udemy. I was also voted Udemy’s Best New Instructor of 2016.

I've spent years figuring out the "formula" to teaching technical skills in a classroom environment, and I'm really excited to finally share my expertise with you. I can confidently say that my online courses are without a doubt the most comprehensive ones on the market.

Join me on this crazy adventure!

It was really a great course with nice, witty delivery. The course covered everything what is needed at basic level. I just wished if the PDFs provided were not tied to Canva ... I don't have Canva account. It should have only be plain PDFs. Also I wish the demo was done using VS Code instead of interactive Python

Having many years of experience and knowledge of several different computer languages, I was interested in learning what is different about Python. The course was very well structured and built on previously learned concepts when introducing something new. Very easy to follow and entertaining along the way.

This is a wonderful course that I have seen so far on Udemy as well as on the YouTube. Mr. Colt has given us an idea of all the important concepts that are required for a beginner in Python. The most beautiful part of the course is it's Quizzes and exercises. Really loved this course and if you are a beginner, I would highly recommend you to jump into this course without any second thought. Thanks.

It has been pretty good so far. There was one section regarding information on the print command that wasn't accessible. The spinner icon kept going and going. Other than that, it's been pretty good. Informative

As a JVM (Scala, Java) developer with 7 years of experience, I decided to get familiar with the basics of Python. Given my background, I watched the course at 1.5x speed and often skipped ahead. It’s a pity that topics like generators, lambdas, and multiple inheritance were not covered. However, it’s still a good course for beginners.

This is the best Python course for beginners who want to build a strong foundation. The lessons are broken down into bite-sized, easy-to-follow modules that make learning feel manageable and not overwhelming. Each concept is reinforced with relevant exercises and quick projects, so you’re not just watching — you’re actually coding and applying what you learn. It’s perfect for anyone starting from scratch and looking for a practical, hands-on approach to understanding Python fundamentals.

This is actually a very good course on coding, its just too long for "busy people". Everything was clearly explained. I think it should had been 10 hours long, many not essential things are covered. An advanced course should be added to this one for those want to see stuff for advanced coding.

Colt's courses are always good - clear, filled with humor and examples and this one was no different, though at the end of the course I did feel it was too basic and could have dug deeper into Python learning. As is, it felt as if it cut off a bit too abruptly.

By Robert Wesołowski on 1/22/2026

I couldn't imagine a better introduction to the subject. Colt is engaging and at times even entertaining and both are very difficult in a prerecorded course, yet he manage! Also he breaks things down into understandable pieces very efficiently.

Incredible course covering all of the essential fundamentals in Python, perfect for any beginner, be that with some experience or none, and also suitable for more advanced programmers who are looking for a refreshers or gaps in their skill set. Would highly recommend.
