The Modern Javascript Bootcamp Course (Udemy.com)

For the most part I thought it was well paced, thorough and loaded with practical exercises. I really wanted to give it 5 stars, but I couldn't. That's because as we got into the latter stages, there were things that got left out, or were corrected without mentioning it. (either the problem was never discussed except in the Q&A or the fix magically appeared without explanation.) The biggest one (which I never managed to resolve, and which was left broken in the lectures) was what happened in the E-Commerce project if you tried to create (or update) a product with no image file. Several people reported having the same problem, but there was never any resolution other than form a good Samaritan who offered a solution that probably works, but was well out of scope based on what we had done already. The other problem is that much of the material (especially once the topic turns to NodeJS) is dated. Everything is using require/module.exports, which is no longer the de facto standard. It's good to know how these work since you're still likely to encounter it in legacy code, but there's no mention of ESM modules and imports at all. This causes some projects to hit the wall, since some node libraries have converted to ESM and you have to install an older version in order to match what the instructor is doing. Once again, there's no discussion of how to do this except in the Q&A section where previous students have solved it and passed on their findings. But I did learn quite a bit, and hopefully a new version (or replacement course) will clean up the details and get it into the current era.

This was a great course. The first half was a great introduction to the major concepts of JS, and the second was a great application of those concepts via projects. I particularly appreciated the process of laying out the plan for each app and talking through their structure prior to just hammering away on a bunch of code. I think that was an element that sets this course apart from many I've worked through.

I really like the first teachers style. The second instructor I really had a difficulty getting through. Im still not finished. It was so hard for me to continue. So much so that I legit almost quit coding because I started to question if it was for me, haha.. I cant put my finger on why I had so much trouble with the second teacher though.

I can't express how much value I was able to reap from this course. I personally like Colt Steele and how the guy teaches you coding but damn! Stephen is now also my favorite teacher of all time. I would be forever grateful for all the information I was able to retrieve from this particular course. It took me a long time to finish but I enjoyed each and every part of it. Thank you so much, Colt & Stephen.

I did not have any knowledge of programming languages. This class has taught me so much. Colt and Stephen did an amazing job explaining all those fundamentals. I've read comments where people complain about all the theory, but for newcomers like me, it really helped a lot. I'm currently at section 289, and I never thought I would make it this far. The projects are not easy, honestly. You have to apply everything you've learned. It's very challenging, but slowly I am actually understanding and picking it up. Who would have thought I could actually make a functional website with JS DOM that I learned from this class? And now I am making a maze game! I am a full-time worker, so I study for a minimum of 2 to 3 hours every day and even more on weekends. It's been three months, and I am almost done with this class as well. I thought I should write a review. This class is definitely up to date. An amazing class. I am a totally different person now. And for $17? (Yes, it was on sale) NO REGRETS AT ALL! Thank you Colt and Stephen!

Good course, fun teacher. I tried some of the alternatives with similar rating and this one is definitely better in terms of explanation/dryness. Sadly it lacks the one thing that actually counts: tons and tons of exercises to constantly test and solidify what you've learned. You can sit passively through all 50+ hours and still have trouble with the basics. Don't wait, type from the very beginning! So, buy this as it's very in depth and the explanation is good but pair it with a project based course or look online for beginner exercises.

Incredible course by both instructors. Colt and Stephen deliver once again, with lots of hands-on material. I think this course will really help improve your coding abilities. My advice would be, take it slow and steady, try things out on your own, and try whenever possible to code ahead of Stephen (in the project sections) and then see how you did.

If you are reading this review then trust me don't think any more and purchase this course. Let me tell you about my experience, Colt Steele was very good with explanations and stuff and after his part Stephen comes and helps us building awesome projects, I was new to JavaScript and the only complain I have is that the E-commerce website is a bit overwhelming for me but it is not at all a trade off. And regarding Q/A I would like to tell you is that I immediately got answers and each and every question is answered in this course so don't worry and go for it :)

P.S. i am not a native english speaker. This course is a complete package. first half is where they teach you everything javascript and it's really really good. what's even more amazing is the second half the project the you will build and the knowledge that stephen shares is priceless on top of that ' what if you get stuck somewhere?? just ask the question in the course Q&A and stephen will help you solve your problem

This is a great course. I highly recommend it to get a good grasp of javascript es6, promises, and build some cool projects using node JS. The concepts of es6 are explain really well by Colt. I really appreciate that Stephen explains the actual approaches the industry takes to solve these problems(ex: how to store images); it is very valuable information. The course will build upon previous concepts, so make sure you have the destructuring lectures handy. A lot of the more complicated concepts do become more clear in the second half of the course as you are building the projects. The only section that I thought was confusing was promises.( The examples were too elaborated to introduce the concept), but be persistent.
