Course Description
Forged from the creation of his 111 Public Television "How to Paint" episodes, Gary has perfected his popular step-by-step teaching method for watercolor . Rather than progress from an "easy" painting to a more difficult painting, Gary starts his students on "any given painting." Choose "the subject" (the painting) that you prefer, and Gary will walk you through its creation from start to finish.
It has been his experience that by breaking the watercolor painting process down into easy-to-follow steps, students can take on any of his painting compositions—thus progressing more rapidly. Gary’s proven teaching method will make you a better watercolor painter!
ALL SKILL LEVELS
In many ways, novices are at an advantage as they have not yet pre-learned any watercolor painting approaches. But more advanced painters usually benefit from Gary's many unique watercolor techniques as well.
Watercolor is considered the most versatile and challenging painting medium. It can seem, at times, to have a life of its own. Gary demonstrates how to take control of this dynamic medium by breaking it down into easy-to-follow steps.

Gary Spetz
Through his award winning art, Gary Spetz attempts to enhance the viewer's appreciation of the colors, shapes and designs that surround us. Gary travels extensively in his quest to both collect painting materials and find new paths to explore. In truth, he enjoys the "going to" as much as the painting process, itself. As an avid outdoors enthusiast, he hikes, skis, sails, and kayaks through the landscapes that he paints.
Gary is a "Signature Member" of the National Watercolor Society. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota who, over the years, has achieved numerous acceptances into the prestigious "Top 100" National Park painting collections of the National Park Academy of the Arts . He has also been featured in 98 national PBS television episodes (American Public Television) pertaining to learning watercolor and art travel. Many articles of his work have appeared in Watercolor, Artists, and Watercolor Magic magazines. And his work has been published in the books, Searching For The Artist Within and Art From The Parks.
When not "in the field", Gary and his wife reside in northwest Montana.

The painting is very detailed and Gary is great to explain every step so you understand what you are to do. I love the painting and have learned a loads of techniques. The beauty of this is that you take away from the course as much as you wish. You may not want to do all the steps when you are painting on your own but once you have the knowledge, you know what you are able to discard for your own creation..

I liked learning about masking in layers. The only problem I had was that there was so much detail in the drawing that, when tracing, I got lost in the details and had no clue what to mask and what not to mask. A colored overlay of what should be masked would be good. There are some in the resources but a bright color would be better as the color now is hard to see. Enjoyed this class and will take another one with Gary.

Gary really sounds like he is very experienced and he's sharing his thoughts on "why" he does what he does. I like that! I prefer not to be told what to do without some explanation of thoughts behind the plan or action

Interesting technique that I want to try. I am not sure that I have the patience to do all the steps in detail like the teacher did, but am certainly going to give it a try. Enjoyed the course.

Great course. Loved his techniques. I would like to see a bit more detail in areas, but overall, it was excellent. I would have probably added a couple of rabbits in a couple of different poses under the tree on the left to add a little more interest to the subject matter (plus a few rabbit tracks), but that's just me!!

In this curse I've learned new great watercolor techniques. Clear explanation step by step. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars because there was no detailed explanation how properly shade snow. For me it was the most challenging part and it would be great to see close video about that.

I like Gary but the painting is very detailed and they showed him painting up close and difficult to see where he was in the painting. Also, masking 1st time, 2nd time....didn't explain it very well which one was which. Colors....one your own...like the browns. I was frustrated. He was excited and he is a wonderful artist.

i like Gary showing what he does and explaining why. I haven't finished my water color wintery scene yet. I need to go get some more masking fluid. I will add more when I have finished my painting.
