Course Description

Hello there ! I am David Fitzpatrick and I welcome you to my course! This course is for IT Professionals DevOps engineers (not programmers) who have some basic PowerShell skills know how to do it and foreach statements but would like to know how to do functions error handling and more advanced topics. This course is not for programmers, a programmer already has most of the tools necessary. Now to the stuff you will learn
Apart from learning the difference between Windows PowerShell 5.1 and PowerShell 7.0. This course will take you from a basic scripter who uses simple scripts to be a more advanced scripter in which you will learn how to use .NET, create functions and convert the functions into Cmdlets. We will practice a lot with labs. The most difficult being a Extra Lab which will make more sense when you start using PowerShell more after this course.

This course follows the PowerShell from Beginner to Sheller and Scripter course, but can be done without following that course as long as you have all the prerequisites.

Please be welcome and I will love to see you in this course. Welcome to PowerShell Advanced! Let me know what you thought about it!

Generally, good overview course for “more advanced Powershell features”, but: the course could contain less unnecessary talks and jokes, examples could be far more polished, coding style could be cleaner, without all those unnecessary multiple empty lines. More things like this could be improved.

I recently completed the "PowerShell Advanced" course and here are my thoughts. While the course covers important advanced topics, I found the explanations could have been clearer and more beginner-friendly, especially when compared to the course "PowerShell from Beginner to Sheller and Scripter." In the beginner course, the instructor explained concepts in a very simple and easy-to-understand manner, which helped me grasp the topics quickly. However, in this advanced course, some explanations were not detailed enough, making it harder to fully understand certain key concepts. For example, the BEGIN–PROCESS–END block in PowerShell was introduced, but not explained with enough clarity and practical examples. There were a few other advanced topics as well that felt underexplained. Overall, the course has potential, but it would greatly benefit from more real-world examples and in-depth explanations to help learners connect the dots more effectively.

I recently finished the beginner course and just today finished the advanced course, and this was AWESOME! I learned a great deal more here, and made some really cool cmdlets. Even playing around with the speech synthesizer was a blast! As I said in my review on the beginner course, you are a great teacher... but even more so, you present yourself as someone who is also a great *co-worker*, and people like you are always a morale boost in the workplace because you are so much enjoyment to work with. Keep up the great work, and all the best!

Knowledge is good, but the pace is very slow. Unnecessary comments and jokes make the explanations lengthy. Coding practices are lacking, and excessive use of the Enter key makes scripts unreadable. The code is scattered all over the screen, making it hard to follow. It's difficult to check previous commands/cmdlets when the code is formatted in this way. Even the author makes mistakes due to these issues, like unclear variable naming. Despite these drawbacks, I've learned a lot. The author points out where to look for additional knowledge, which is helpful. Useful cmdlets and how to use properties and methods are demonstrated. Overall, the course seems more suited for beginners and intermediate users rather than advanced ones. I am satisfied with the content.

Another awesome class sir! I enjoyed this course as much as I enjoyed taking the first course with you. Your teaching is on point. You mentioned that you make mistakes. I enjoyed those mistakes by trying to solve them myself. I think you should make more "mistakes" to see if the students would be able to figure it out. If in the future you decide to teach more PowerShell courses I would love to take them again. I have learned so much from the two courses I have taken with you. Thank you!!

I enjoyed this course. I thought it was organized well and the examples were helpful. I feel a lot more comfortable with PowerShell and how to author functions, cmdlets, and modules. I also have a better understanding of the pipeline and how objects are passed into cmdlets. I recommend working through all the examples as they are presented, this will help solidify the material covered.

I have taken this course after I have completed the Beginner Course provided by the same trainer of this course (David Fitzpatrick), and this Course is also amazing like the previous one, it teaches at an accurate pace and deals with some of the advance scripting teaching in a more precise way. Thank You for guiding me on the correct direction through this course.

So far, the only complaint I have is that I was not aware I had to be working with windows 10. I don't have it. Will do my best to follow along on windows 11. Edit: 6/7/23 - Despite having given 5 stars you still read the comment and replied! Amazing! I just went and bought this course for people who are just starting :) I have scripting experience, but PowerShell is more complex than the CLIs I have experienced in the past.

First off, there is a lot of valuable information in this course. In my opinion, the first modules about .NET were by far the most useful bits of information in this course. Understanding how to break down and research cmdlets into .NET assemblies and classes, was exactly what I was looking to learn. My only "nit pick", was that for an intermediate course, this seemed to cover very beginner'ish material for a large portion of the course. Primarily, the sections on function building (and even the majority of "advanced" functions) were some of the first beginner-level concepts you'd normally learn in PowerShell. The same goes for the bulk of the projects. Lastly, this is more of an actual complaint, I was expecting the lessons on building cmdlets to be about building actual cmdlets, not just functions. This may stem from a fundamental misinterpretation from the instructor on what cmdlets are (or maybe I'm misinterpreting this?) but a cmdlet CAN be a function, but a function written in PowerShell is not a cmdlet - meaning, a cmdlet is written in compiled .NET and loaded into the runtime, functions however, are written in PowerShell. Simply writing a function does not make it a cmdlet (this is why there's a separate export for cmdlets vs. functions in your manifest file). I was expecting this module to be about writing actual cmdlets, not just creating a .psm1. Aside from the cmdlet module not being what I expected, the rest of the course does contain very valuable information, so I would suggest picking it up if you're not comfortable with advanced functions or .NET.

Very good continuation of the first course. I like the way David sometimes makes mistakes which he keeps in the video to help with error checking. A couple of times I've watched and thought 'that wont work' which proves I am learning something! Of course the errors are all explained in the videos to help you understand. Would recommend - 5 stars
