Why this course?
There is a shift happening in the way we as a species communicate with machines. With the advent of Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Siri, and Microsoft Cortana, the focus on Voice User Interfaces or Voice Activated Conversational Interfaces is rapidly increasing.
This ever changing world presents a threat to the way we operate, especially when we do not understand it. A more AI aware world might be years away, but if we learn how to talk to and control the machines then we grow collectively.
--
The "Real" Goal for this course
Yes, Amazon Alexa and similar voice activated interfaces look and sound pretty cool. You can use the extensive documentation available with each interface to build out the skills.
However, just learning the syntax of a particular system is not enough. To mature as an individual, you need to gain the foundational skills on how these interfaces operate, and be technology agnostic when it comes to building these conversational interfaces.
The real goal of this course is to get you competent enough to understand the complexities that go behind designing and creating the voice user interfaces, so that you can immediately assess how different pieces of the puzzle fit together.
--
Practical Implementation of the Real Goal
No matter how much of the fundamental knowledge you have, if you are unable to put it to practice, then usually it is of no real value.
This course not only focuses on getting you ahead of others in understanding how a voice user interface works, but helps you build your very own uber cool personal assistant using Amazon Alexa, that can do what you can make it do.
Building a personal assistant using Alexa Custom Skills is just one of the techniques, and you will learn very soon that you can design a variety of interfaces through the knowledge that you gain.
Amazon has always been ahead of the game in terms of building voice interfaces, and you will be able to understand how you can leverage what Amazon has to offer to get you to communicate with machines effectively.
--
What will you learn?
By using Amazon Alexa, and building a Voice Activated Personal Assistant, you will gain the following:
Understand what is Amazon Alexa and its ecosystem
What are Voice Interaction Models, and how they can help you build a better and reliable voice interface
Know the technologies that work behind a voice activated interface
Use Amazon Services such as Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, & IAM and how they interact with each other
Deconstruct an Alexa Skill, and get clarity on what are Intents, Slots, and Utterances
Develop with Node.js 10.x and Alexa Skills Kit SDK v2 to build a personal assistant that responds to your queries
Connect with Third Party APIs and process information, use asynchronous requests, promises, and await expressions in async functions
Maintain data persistence within an Active Alexa Session
Introduce errors, and Test Alexa Skills through 4 different modes including simulators and physical devices
Leverage the Amazon Web Services to build a Consistently Reliable Architecture
You will get a complete checklist on what all you will be achieving, with code that is available on GitHub for easy access. The lectures will have links, files, and diagrams attached to them wherever relevant.
Even if you do not have the knowledge of Node.js, you will be able to fundamentally understand how you can build custom skills, and implement it in your own preferred language.
The sooner you get into building the voice interfaces, the faster you will be able to mould the machines to your liking.
Enroll Now, and begin to shape the brand new voice activated world!

I have spent almost two decades building software applications and doing infrastructure management. Understanding both software and hardware has given me a leverage over creating solutions that talk nicely to each other and are automated and reliable.
I have always been fascinated about Artificial Intelligence, and in early 2000s, inspired by a chatterbot called A.L.I.C.E, I built a voice activated bot called LISA which could do some basic tasks like checking weather or arithmetic calculations.
Now, the technology landscape has changed exponentially, and I believe that we are moving into a very new and nascent artificial intelligence aware world. Building systems and having meta skills to build interfaces that can interact with machines will help us collectively mature as species.
I am pretty excited about the change taking shape, and sharing information through courses is my way of contributing back on what I learnt. I hope you get value out of the courses I provide, and you gain much more fundamentally to build superior systems.

It was good. I am amazed by Vivek's breadth of knowledge. Sometimes, Vivek is kind of clunky in his approach. But it was good for me. Use https and grab each chunk? Use fetch instead. A couple of times, changes Amazon had made threw me. But I was able to right the ship. I really appreciate Vivek's mention of how one thing is related to another. One of the banes of my existence is step by step by step explanations. I end up knowing how to do one specific thing. But without understanding the relationships or the structure, I just stand there paralyzed, which asked to do something new, out of my own head, or out of my customer's requirements. Vivek avoids this problem! Well done, Vivek.

Having completed this course I now have a much better understanding of how Alexa works and what I might do with it. Alas the latter might be limited by the availability of APIs, and where they exist there's a good chance there will already be a related Alexa skill. The course includes an example of using the Google Maps API to get travel time estimates but also has an example of retrieving quotations from hard-coded data; I guess there isn't an API for quotes so, should you want that, you would have to create your own database. I enjoyed this course and can recommend it for those who what to learn how this stuff works but warn anyone with a specific goal that what they want to do may or may not turn out to be possible.

Great session. I had a basic understanding and experience in Dialogflow, so some sessions like intents and slots were skipped. But this course is all you need to build skill and test it on a real device. I created a skill for my Echo Show that works like a charm. Thanks, Vivek.

I started two other Alexa courses ( ACloudGuru and Udemy) and neither was in the same league as this one. Vivek explains the code and walks you through it instead of just pasting in the code. Clear and simple explanations that are easy to understand. Great Course!

Learnt a new technology! Vivek teaches all the concepts in a simple and easy way. The basics and foundations are well covered. The last part consists of a very useful topic on how you can use 3rd party APIs to make your Alexa skill more useful. All in all this is a very good course and an awesome technology to learn. Recommend it to everyone.

i'm on lesson 21, so still working on the theory, primarily. but the course seems great, and he's explaining everything well. update 1: unit 36 - just finished the first very simple function and Alexa responded!! so exciting to get so far in such a short period of time.

This Course explanation and architecture is good, but this is not the complete course. Many aspect like Authentication / distribution / https endpoint setup & using multiple slots in single utterances are not covered. Though, for the beginner, its is good to go with this course to understand Alexa skill basic development within Amazon environment. Regards, Naveen Jain

This was an Extremely helpful course for me starting out as a beginner in building apps for Alexa. I gained a thorough insight into building the apps, got to see real life projects up and running and walked away with extreme value for money. Vivek goes above and beyond to teach his students in an easy to understand teaching method, uses thorough explanations and is also quick to help you out when you get stuck on something. I would definitely recommend this course to other students. Wonderful job, thanks very much Vivek and Udemy. - EDIT: January 2019 - I just wanted to drop by and say a huge thank you to Vivek and Udemy. Vivek helped me build a skill that i built named, 'Majesty Words Oxford Dictionary', for Alexa a few months ago, he helped me through the process which included quite a few messages back and forth. I have since published 10 different skills in all available countries, i'm now getting paid for a popular skill i produced in Japan and i also entered my first hackathon yesterday with a newly built children's education skill. My coding skills are way better now and i have the confidence to build any skill i think up. I'm having so much fun making the Alexa skills as a hobby and making a profit as a bonus, I wouldn't have gotten this far if it wasn't for the help of Vivek and Udemy in directing me on how to get my original skill up and running using the Oxford dictionary API. Thanks again and keep up the great work. Your help will never be forgotten.
