Course Description

MASTER SPATIAL DATA ANALYSIS IN QGIS: HANDS-ON GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) TRAINING WITH REAL SPATIAL DATASETS

· Do you find GIS & Spatial Data books & manuals too vague, expensive & not practical

· Are you looking for a course that takes you by hand, teaches you all the concepts, and get you started on working with actual spatial data?

· Or perhaps you want to save time and learn how to carry the most common GIS tasks?

I'm very excited you found my spatial data analysis course. My course provides a foundation to carry out PRACTICAL, real-life spatial data analysis tasks in popular and FREE software framework, QGIS.

I’m Minerva Singh, and I’m an expert data scientist. I’ve graduated from 2 of the best universities in the world; MPhil from Oxford University (Geography and Environment), and a PhD holder in Computational Ecology from Cambridge University.

My course aims to help you become proficient in the use of QGIS and carrying out common GIS tasks on real-life data like me.

With this course, you’ll get familiar with all that’s required to move you from a basic level to carrying out some of the most important GIS analysis on real-life spatial data.

You’ll be introduced to some of the important GIS concepts and how they can be implemented on real-life data using QGIS. This includes working with both raster and shapefile data and carrying out important GIS tasks like deriving topographic products and spatial cluster mapping

That’s why this course is centred on training you on how to effectively implement the different spatial data analysis techniques on real-life data, including working with the Google Earth Engine (GEE) plugin and the powerful System for Automated Geoscientific Analyses (SAGA) processing toolbox.

Each video will teach you a practical GIS skill to implement on your own data.

If you take this course and it ever feels like a disappointment, feel free to ask for a refund within 30 days of your purchase, and you would get it at once.

I completed a PhD (University of Cambridge, UK) in 2017 where I focussed on implementing data science techniques for quantifying the impact of forest loss on tropical ecosystems. I hold an MPhil (School of Geography and Environment) and an MSc (Department of Engineering) from Oxford University. I have more than 10 year's experience in conducting academic research (published in high level peer-reviewed international scientific journals such as PLOS One) and advising both non-governmental and industry stakeholders in data science, deep learning and earth observation (EO) related topics.

I have a strong track record in implementing machine learning, data visualization, spatial data analysis, deep learning and natural language processing tasks using both R and Python. In addition to being educated at the best universities in the world, I have honed my statistical and data analysis skills through many MOOCs, including The Analytics Edge (R based statistics and machine learning course offered by EdX), Statistical Learning (R-based Machine Learning course offered by Stanford online) and the IBM Data Science Professional certificate Track. I specialise in a variety of topics ranging from deep learning (Tensorflow, Keras) to machine learning to spatial data analysis (including EO data processing), data visualizations, natural language processing, financial analysis among others. I have acted as a peer reviewer on highly

I have previously taken her ArcGIS course which was brilliant. Here, I am a bit disappointed with Sections 6 and 7 which seemed to be taken from separate courses altogether and had no flow or understanding attached to these sections. Otherwise it was a decent course for starters.

By Ed Kellaway on 1/27/2023

Seems like SAGA is partially discontinued, so a few SAGA sections were tough to follow. I also did not get the prompt from GEE when I installed that plug-in so I could not follow along in section 6. Overall, this is definitely a good course for beginners.

I enjoyed the course very much. I believe this course has a lot of good information on Vector and Raster analysis and other tool sets available. The section on Google earth engine is also very good by providing guidance on the data sets available and importing them in to Qgis. I do feel this is a good beginner level course providing exposure to the basic capabilities for vector and raster data and expanding into remote sensing basics with gee. Thank you Minerva! I look forward to taking more of your QGIS courses.

By Emily Barnes on 2/28/2021

Useful as an introduction to QGIS as shows where to find the key spatial analysis tools but quite light on the explanation on the use of the use of the tools. However I bought this in the sale and think it is still very useful and value for money

By Kevin Havener on 2/23/2021

Learned a lot about the general types of analysis available in QGIS. Wish the raster sections weren't so elevation dependent. There are other raster data available, you know, say climate and weather.
