Practice advanced SQL queries with MySQL 5.7+ (Udemy.com)

Jusqu'ici, ce cours correspond parfaitement à ce que j'attends. De la précision, de la rigueur, des bases de données importantes... Et la promesse d'avoir beaucoup, beaucoup à apprendre encore.

Definitely is good to take that course. It helps quite a lot when you are dealing with more advanced SQL like UDF and functions. As stated few times by Michal, that is advanced course, so you do not find how to write basic queries here.

Michal is not a teacher neither native English speaker which you will spot right away. But I do not see it as a problem. Instead of, Michal is really experienced user. That is the most important when you are looking for advanced staff, teachers know theory, Michal know practice - that you will also spot right away.

I like the most:

- coding practice

- exercises

- topics discussed

Could be better:

- way of talking & when presenting sometimes some part is not visible on the screen

- add more content, more videos & make that course really comprehensive advanced SQL course best on udemy

- jumping between Atom, MySQL, PostgreSQL can be sometimes a bit confusing

However, course definitely recommended once you know the basic.

He teaches with a great passion and really pulls you in. Wish we had the MD files, just for ease of use, but as a senior level developer, i am watching this with so many ideas on to 'level up' my junior members. I will be strongly suggesting this course to them all.

Information in course are in-depth and well understandable. I recomend it to everyone interested in advanced MySQL techniques.

But in some lectures I wasn't satisfied with form of presentation. Zooming in/out and webcam image caused hiding of content which Michal talked about. But it's nothing big if you listen what Michal is saying.

Great course for SQL - I was expecting MORE optimization and normalization, concerning database design and implementation.

This course does cover the steps to take to speed up queries; before my queries were trial and error when trying to optimize run times. now i can read how the database will perform a query and modify it to speed up execution time.

I like the course because it really clarifies what I didn't know about mysql. It's true that MySql is more an issue of practice, but I have already the knowledge.

As mentioned before, it didn't look good to have downloaded the information from Mysql Website (or blogs) and make them PDF, not because of the information itself, but because it's like the author didn't want to expend time to make their own.

Another thing I didn't like it's that the author, in one of the first videos (introductory video If I'm not wrong) strongly insist in not to start the course if we don't have all the environment ready, which includes postgresql, at least in the introduction. I took several hours trying to install the DB in postgresql and, as I didn't succeed, I contacted the author and he replied saying that the course It's not for postgresql and the DB provided wouldn't work on it. He should clarify that or, in case, don't include that in the introduction.

Overall the course is good, in my case because I was a Mysql Newbie.

Let's be clear: If you used only basics of the sql, you will definitely learn lots of new stuff here. This is definitely not the introductory course to MySQL and author will not waste your time by explaining basics to you. Author is very knowledgeable about the topic and you will surely learn, at least how to write well structured queries, and you can apply those immediately in your work. In first 3 chapters you will have a lot of explanations and practices to keep you busy.

However, there are some things that needs to be addressed:

Course description does not specify that this is MacOS friendly version. Windows users will need to invest some time to setup sample database as author did not provided any information on how to do this on Windows machine. No information on how to combine split sample database file or how to extract tar.gz format in Windows, so you will have to search for a way for it (Total Commander can solve all these, for example). Author did not provided any Windows alternatives for MySQL GUI tools (MySQL Workbench worked for almost all situations). Yes, this is not a course about usage of the gui tools, but author, surely cannot expect us to write such advanced queries in command line.

Presentation of the material could be done better. There are tables from sample database that are empty, yet they are required for practices. Code cannot be copied from pdf to sql editor without removing clutter that crashes the query (e.g. found when query spans on two pages). Important parts of video presentations are sometimes blocked by author's cam or not visible as incorrect portion of presentation is zoomed in. Also, all these pdfs with carbon copies of mysql documentation (S**-R** label) should be placed in one lecture per chapter as those lectures does not serve any purpose other then to raise count of total lectures in course.

At the end, it seems that this course is released unfinished. However, I get the idea that the author wanted to teach us very advanced topics that most of us were never aware that they even existed. I thank him for pointing on those to me.

Foundation for this course is good, just I wished that presentation was better. Otherwise I would not have any problem giving this a 5 star.

Overall a Good Course. Loved the Coding Practices as they were a little difficult and makes you think alot

maybe didn't feel the powerfull yet .. i think this is because of my knowledge with mysql

Great course for advanced level. More content would be welcomed.
