Quality speaks for itself...

SAMPLE QUESTION:

A company runs a production database on an Amazon EC2 instance that uses Amazon EBS volumes for storage. During a disaster recovery exercise, the company must restore the most recent EBS snapshots to a new EC2 instance in a different Availability Zone. The restored EBS volumes must immediately deliver their full provisioned performance so that validation testing can begin without delay.

Which solution would you suggest to meet these requirements?

  1. Activate EBS Fast Snapshot Restore for the snapshots in the source Availability Zone. Create new EBS volumes in the target Availability Zone from the snapshots and attach the volumes to a new EC2 instance

  2. Configure the snapshots with Provisioned IOPS settings before creating new EBS volumes in the target Availability Zone and attach the volumes to a new EC2 instance

  3. Activate EBS Fast Snapshot Restore for the snapshots in the target Availability Zone. Create new EBS volumes in that Availability Zone from the snapshots and attach the volumes to a new EC2 instance

  4. Copy the EBS snapshots to the target Availability Zone before creating new EBS volumes and attach the volumes to a new EC2 instance

What's your guess? Scroll below for the answer

Correct: 3.

Correct option:

Activate EBS Fast Snapshot Restore for the snapshots in the target Availability Zone. Create new EBS volumes in that Availability Zone from the snapshots and attach the volumes to a new EC2 instance

EBS Fast Snapshot Restore allows volumes created from a snapshot to immediately deliver their full provisioned performance. Without Fast Snapshot Restore, volumes lazily load data from Amazon S3, which can introduce latency during initial reads. Fast Snapshot Restore must be enabled in the specific Availability Zone where the restored volumes will be created. Enabling it in the target Availability Zone ensures that restored volumes do not experience performance degradation during initialization.

This configuration allows the company to begin validation testing immediately after volume creation, meeting the requirement for rapid recovery and full performance delivery.

How Amazon EBS fast snapshot restore works:

Incorrect options:

Activate EBS Fast Snapshot Restore for the snapshots in the source Availability Zone. Create new EBS volumes in the target Availability Zone from the snapshots and attach the volumes to a new EC2 instance - Fast Snapshot Restore operates at the Availability Zone level. Enabling it in the source Availability Zone does not provide performance benefits when creating volumes in a different Availability Zone. Because the restored volumes will be created in the target Availability Zone, Fast Snapshot Restore must be enabled in that zone. This configuration does not meet the performance requirement.

Configure the snapshots with Provisioned IOPS settings before creating new EBS volumes in the target Availability Zone and attach the volumes to a new EC2 instance - Provisioned IOPS settings apply to EBS volumes, not to snapshots. Snapshots do not store performance configuration attributes. Even if the restored volume is created with Provisioned IOPS, it will still experience lazy loading unless Fast Snapshot Restore is enabled. This option does not eliminate initialization latency.

Copy the EBS snapshots to the target Availability Zone before creating new EBS volumes and attach the volumes to a new EC2 instance - EBS snapshots are stored in Amazon S3 at the Regional level and are not confined to a specific Availability Zone. Copying a snapshot is required only when moving it to another Region, not to another Availability Zone within the same Region. Even if a snapshot copy were performed, the restored volume would still experience lazy loading unless EBS Fast Snapshot Restore is enabled in the target Availability Zone. This option does not satisfy the requirement to deliver full provisioned performance immediately.

These are one of the toughest practice exams which will help you to prepare for the certification. In my 1st attempt I failed in all of these 4 tests but after going through Stephane Maarek SysOps course I cleared these tests. The main exam is not as tough as these tests. Cleared my certification with 83%.

If you're taking Stephane's AWS Certified SysOps Administrator course then i'd highly recommend enrolling in this one too. It's a great way on preparing for the actual exam and establishing where your knowledge gaps are. Although some of the questions can be badly worded, you get the full option to review the questions you skipped or got wrong with details on what the correct answer should have been and a good explanation of why. I don't think i'd have passed without using this resource.

I only took 3 out of 4 practice tests and felt ready for the exam. On my first try I got the exam. I am now certified as a SysOps Administrator - Associate by AWS thanks to the course and the practice tests I took. Thank you very much.

By Wei-Ping Tsao on 10/31/2023

Admittedly, the tests here are difficult for my first try - some good but some not so great. However, they do bring me concepts on how to tackle the questions in logical or better ways for myself. Many thanks for putting the efforts behind as (I think) it's most important for me to learn and know my weak points, and how to overcome / enhance. I can certainly see some good reasons behind too. I only just passed the exam with great result yesterday, It's much appreciated for the authors on the hard work for the tests.

Wish there was a way to configure the learning methods. Very nice how quizlet is laid out. Learn, Test, practice, etc... If you could figure out a way to export your tests into a CSV (i understand that would potentially allow the sharing of your tests) (not even sure if quizlet has an import like that CX ) Just day dreaming here. But if there was a way I could easily export from Udemy and import into Quizlet that would be very nice. Udemy's testing isnt good.

A few serious issues with this course: 1) The questions from the SysOps course practice exam are recycled through the first three exams in this course. Which makes effectively the number of the practice exams 3 instead of 4 , while comparable courses have up to six non-recycled practice tests. 2) The gap between the material that the questions are testing and the main course is so large that I almost never got back to the main course the find the the answers. 3) The other thing is that the questions are often poorly worded, and there're a few cases of ambiguous or even wrong answers. 4) A large amount of questions seems testing some random knowledge rather than conceptual understanding or relevant facts The course still has some good questions and give opportunities to deepen one's knowledge so I gave 2.5 stars

By Denis E. on 4/12/2023

Mostly, the questions are very good and the explanations provide some valuable insights, yet there are certain things that need improvement. Firstly, same questions may appear in different practice tests. And if you've completed Stephane's course, you'll see even more familiar questions in the tests. In my case, on average there were around 30% of duplicate questions in each test. Secondly, some questions (and answers) are really poorly-worded. There are not too many of such questions, but you'll definitely encounter some in each test. Thirdly, the authors don't seem to fully understand the term "distractor" that AWS uses to name the wrong answers. They go as far as coming up with their own fake service and tool names, while AWS clearly states that they do not invent fake service names for their certifications. That being said, I'd still recommend going through these practice exams, as they are quite able to get you better prepared to the actual exam.

A lot of the questions are not covered in Stephan's lectures, which for the most part are really refurbished SAA and other courses. In some extreme cases the entire section (see networking) is just a copy paste from SAA. The question themselves are difficult to understand with a lot of unnecessary information (real exam had less junk information to filter). You only get 4 practice tests, where a lot of the questions are already in Stephan's lectures' practice test and in SAA practice exams by same authors. Still there is some value from taking theses tests, as they uncover a lot of areas where you need to study from external resources. Let me also point out there is almost no information about lab exercises, even few scenarios or guidance would have been appreciated. Overall in my opinion if you are tight on budget, I'd spend my money in another platform to get some practice tests / labs.

Completed only one practice test. Really makes you visualize the UI's in the console to understand the questions. My issue is reading too much into each question; what if, what about and such. The explanations really clear up any misunderstanding of the questions.

By Jayanth reddy on 1/8/2022

This is a great choice if you wanna get SysOps certificate by taking the practice tests only once and reviewing the quiz to find what went wrong. I passed the exam on my first attempt. Always choose the Stepane Mareek course as they are organized and designed to prepare you. Thanks a lot for the effort and I am currently going through DevOps training that I bought early this week - https://www.udemy.com/course/aws-certified-devops-engineer-professional-hands-on
