Course Description

This course is specifically designed for senior or staff-level engineers who are interested in learning about Event-Driven Microservices, the Saga Pattern, and various architectural patterns using technologies such as Spring Cloud Stream, Kafka, and Java Reactive Programming.

By the end of the course, participants will gain a deep understanding and comfort with the following patterns:

  • Saga Choreography Pattern

  • Saga Orchestrator Pattern

  • Transactional Outbox Pattern

  • Fan-Out / Fan-In

  • Content-Based Routing / Dynamic Routing

Here is what we will do in this course:

  • The course begins by exploring Spring Cloud Stream, a framework for developing Event-Driven Microservices. Participants will learn how to use the Reactive Kafka binder and practice producing, consuming, processing, and acknowledging messages using Java Reactive and functional interfaces. Integration tests using Embedded Kafka will also be covered.

  • Next, participants will delve into Stream Bridge, a utility for sending arbitrary messages to a Kafka Topic. Stream Bridge enables routing messages based on content, achieving dynamic routing, and even acting as a Dead-Letter-Topic producer during error handling.

  • The course then progresses to designing a complex application involving multiple microservices. Participants will learn how to achieve a complex workflow that involves all the services, with a focus on implementing the Saga Pattern. The Saga Orchestrator and Saga Choreography styles will be explored, where participants will understand the role of a central coordinator or the observation and reaction of events among the saga participants.

  • Finally, the course covers the Transactional Outbox Pattern, which addresses reliable message sending to a Kafka Topic. The pattern involves the use of an 'Outbox' table acting as a proxy Kafka topic. Messages intended for the Kafka topic are first inserted into this table as part of the application's database transaction. Periodic querying of the table ensures messages are sent, marked as 'Sent,' and not sent again.

I'd only say once: he is the Greatest Lecturer in Udemy. All of his courses are great. just enroll.

Its a great course. But it will very helpful if you can help to have a new session for Outbox pattern implementation using change data capture and Debezium. Thank you very much!

First, thanks to the instructor. This course is perfect for intermediate learners, and it is not designed for beginners. You have indeed demonstrated a strong understanding of non-blocking and event-driven models. This proficiency allowed you to comprehend what the instructor was teaching in this course effectively. Each and every concept was explained very well, especially for Saga Pattern and Reactor Kafka testing. In this course, the instructor also covered Java 17 sealed classes, emphasizing their role in enhancing security for microservices implementation. It has proven to be extremely helpful in achieving team management, preventing malicious interference in our code. Additionally, the instructor shared valuable tips and tricks for file structure and component scanning in Spring Cloud Stream. The instructor used the latest version of Spring for this course and also explained the various ways to configure Spring Cloud Stream. It helped me a lot for testing. For production deployment, testing is important, and the instructor nailed it. Also, explained the Saga design pattern exceptionally well.

very advanced course! learnt a lot.

The best part of this course is the source code. These are real working sample of the saga patterns described. The instructor is knowledgeable and knows his stuff and in fact has also a great blog with similar samples. But that's about it. Everything else is bad. As a teacher, instructor leaves much to be desired. A lot of typing and just basically subtitling what he types. The explanations are really bad even if they are present. It's more of a stream of consciousness while he's typing, not real explanations. A lot of statements like - "you know this already" - translation - I am too lazy to repeat anything of what I had tried to teach you 20 lectures before. On top of it: "this guy/that guy is not happy, let's make him happy"; "keep it like that"; PS: The response below from the instructor just speaks for itself. I enroll in many courses on Udemy and my ratings vary everywhere. I am sorry that instead of taking criticism in stride and improving the lectures you choose to always have the same excuse that someone did not follow your explanations you provided in other courses. Every negative follow up by you is the same mantra of "I am a great teacher, but students are bad". PPS: Well, I am just forced to reply to accusations. And this is not the first time "this guy is not happy" about his reviews. There was nothing offensive in my questions/comments about some lectures in this course, yet he just deleted them. In fact, they would actually help clarify the content and design decisions to future students, but he just decided that they(comments) negatively reflect on him. I couldn't believe it was possible without mediation from Udemy. If it's not about the money, then open up many more lectures for preview as many other instructors do on Udemy. Some have 2 random open lectures in every section.
