Course Description

Developing a great app these days requires writing code that can simultaneously handle user interactions, perform network operations, manage data, present dynamic content, and more. That means writing a lot of asynchronous and concurrent code, which can be difficult to get right, and even harder to maintain.

That's where Reactive Programming, and specifically, Reactive Extensions, comes in. Reactive Extensions for Swift and iOS enable writing asynchronous and concurrent code that is succinct, easy to follow, and flexible.

Hi, I’m Scott Gardner. I’ve been developing apps in iOS since 2010, using Swift since the day it was announced, and using RxSwift, now in version 3, since before version 1. I've also authored several video courses, books, tutorials and articles, and presented at numerous conferences, meetups, and online events on Swift, RxSwift, and iOS.

In this course, I’m going to get you up to speed on the Reactive Extensions for Swift and Cocoa Touch. I’ll go from concepts to clicks as I show you how to effectively use reactive extensions in your iOS app projects.

Through this lecture, I was able to learn how to use RxSwift in general. It was good that the lecture time was short. It would be better if the lecture was updated to the latest version because it has been a while since the lecture was filmed, and there are 'Variable' that is not used in the version of RxSwift currently used. Thank you for your hard work in preparing the lecture. It's been a huge help. be happy.

It would be helpful if the Playgrounds were updated to use the latest versions of Swift, RxSwift, and RxCocoa. Also, some people prefer to use Carthage to add RxSwift and RxCocoa, since Carthage does not require that you use a workspace.

The course feels like the tutor is pretty much reading and rewriting documentation. You will not learn anything from that course. The course is not explaining the purpose, advantages or practical use cases of Reactive programming. The examples are not practical. There are 1 hour tutorials available that will explain you more.

Excellent overview of RxSwift and RxCocoa from one of the main RxSwift/RxCocoa contributors. Great explanations. Great example code. Will definitely help an experienced Swift developer get going with RxSwift/RxCocoa.

Contents is so good understanding and examples are abundant. But, English subtitles are too terrible to understand. ex. Rx => Ark's RxCocoa => R X Cocco AlamoFire => Allaman fire etc and so many ... And I hope explanation about shareReply are added to this course.

I was a little worried that this was going to be little to nothing more than a video explanation of the rw RxSwift book that Scott contributed to. A good portion of overlap does exist, but I believe that's inevitable. There was a surprising amount of additional information and, occasionally, a different perspective provided on topics when near identical examples existed. I believe this course is definitely worth it even if you own the rw book or are somewhat familiar with Rx. I imagine it would be a great purchase if you're completely new to Rx. The only downside for me was that this is tailored toward beginners. That being said, there are some interesting advanced topics toward the end of the lesson. If you've been programming with Rx for an extended period of time, you might not get too much out of the majority of this course. Some topics, such as RxDataSource if you haven't used that, could be useful though.

I would like to learn more on the differences between binding & driving. All that was said was of a personal preference. The pull-up context info suggests '.drive' has more info/intent. I would like more elaboration on this.... including a comparison with 'subscribe'.

Scott is a great educator. (Note that the course is much more clear than the RW book that he co-wrote with other guys. I learned a lot from the course even though I started with the book) I do think the course would be even more useful if there were more challenges.

Very thorough! It's obvious that the instructor put a lot of thought and work into structuring this. Every step is well explained and non-obvious actions are verbalized (no "what the heck did he press to get there?" moments). Keep it coming, we need more courses like this!

This is an awesome course. I'm an experienced iOS developer but never got the time to look into reactive programming. I'm sorry I didn't do it sooner! Scott explains everything very clearly, describing concepts in different ways. I'm not a reactive coding expert yet, but I'm excited to become one now.
