Whats covered in this class?
This is an in-depth step by step guide to what you need to know to get a great sounding recording and mix. The videos for this class will walk you through the thought process of a professional audio engineer as he records and mixes a singer/songwriter playing acoustic guitar. As we lead you through the recording and mixing process, we'll explore the basics of acoustics and sound treatment, microphone types, polar patterns, mic'ing techniques, ways to avoid sound leakage, and the best way to use effects, including EQ, compression, reverb, delay, and saturation. Two major recording styles are shown: live recording and multi-tracking.
The class is divided into 3 Sections:
Section 1 covers the pros, cons and considerations taken into recording a song live. Many fundamentals of recording are covered here, including acoustics, microphone types, polar patterns, and a mic'ing strategy that will give you the best sounding recording.
Section 2 introduces a different recording style -- multi-tracking using overdubs. New musical elements are added and several different mic'ing techniques are introduced. There is a greater focus on using effects while mixing including EQ, compression and saturation.
Section 3 is all about vocal harmonies -- not only how to record them, but how to write them even if you have no musical training!

My first impression: Yes, this is exactly what I was looking for! It's great! Thank you for the clear explanations and demonstration! My impression at the halfway point: Yes, this is exactly what I was looking for! It's great! Are there any other courses in this series? Thank you!

Didn't like this course. Explanation is too brief and there is not much useful information. I wanted to return money, but since I already watched many lessons, desperately trying to find something useful and justify my purchase, Udemy denied to give my money back.

This summation of the mixing task is the most complete and coherent possible. It is thorough, foundational and wise. Now it remains to be seen if the ensuing training can reach the level of the problem description.

I've been working on my own home studio project for several months, as an acoustic-guitar-playing singer-songwriter. This course was designed to do exactly what I was doing. It helped me get unstuck by walking me through the process and provided straightforward, step-by-step advice. My own recording still doesn't sound as good as Jackson's song in these lessons, but it sounds a million times better than it did before.

Aprendi pouca coisa nova no curso.

Course was good but would have wanted more content. Also it seemed that the video was cut on occasions when they started to do e.g recording. In those cases would have been nice to see the actual mic setup during recording, how close singer/guitarist is to mics etc. All in all still a very helpful course to get you started in recording singer-songwriter type of music.

Very good comprehensive overview of recording and mixing a track. Alot of time spent on room set-up and use of effects etc in the mix. Would have been good to have some sections on getting good performances from musicians/vocalists as this is a massive element to any great recording, and was not really covered.

I'm an amateur musician/composer and recorded several songs, but all from my own living room. This deep look into the production process of a real studio is very complete. The production level of this course is high quality, with good filming, clear explanations, animated diagrams and detailed technical explanations. P.S. Don't get bored with the basic songs, as you'll go through it countless times...

6 months ago I decided to learn about the art of mixing. So I did what we all do, surf the net, collect articles buy books and mags , then chew the ears off friends who know! But then I stumbled into the Signature Sound team and this program. This little course punches well above its weight. It is PACKED with great insight and covers all the fundamental issues in a manner that beginners can get.. And 'get going'' with! All the material is laid out so logically, with no presumptions about your learning or experience level. Even some with a little experience behind them may well find that this short course can fill in any blind spots in their learning curve, and really sure up basic knowledge ....in short sign up today, and be mixing tomorrow! - Doug Williams

This was a great review of some of the important basics of studio recording. I was even able to pick up on a couple new neat techniques that I had never come across before. I'll definitely recommend this to newcomers in the field. Thanks for the great course guys! Keep them coming!
