Course Description
Welcome to RelationShapes, the only guitar scale system you'll ever need! In this series, I teach you my system for learning 3-note-per-string scales on the guitar, and a simple set of rules so you can know where you are within those scales all the time, so you can know where to go next. I'll cover the major scale and all its modes, the harmonic minor scale and all its modes, the melodic minor scale and all its modes, and symmetrical scales like diminished and whole tone scales.
Most importantly, it's not just a bunch of notes to memorize - it's a way of breaking down the scales into the smallest units and applying some logic so you always know where you are and how to get to where you want to be. Most scale systems are just a ton of rote memorization - but RelationShapes is a map AND how to read it! It's a complete method for learning and practicing scales for the guitar, no matter how many strings there are on your axe, or what style of music you play.

As a beginner with no music theory under my belt, this course is giving me a bit of a headache. It's interesting and I've gone thru much of it to see what I can glean in hopes of "getting it" when I've got a bit more context. I know I can get this info elsewhere, but need to get a feel for Modes and the composition of keys before getting lost in all the terminology. . . .much less minor 3rds and dominant 7ths. The resources could definitely be improved. I'm sort of creating my own to make sure I can put each concept in my own words and match with illustrations. Haven't tried the exercises yet but I know 4 and 5 fret stretches are beyond me physically, too, at this point. Bottom line, I can see there's a pony in there somewhere and I hope to find it one day soon, but I'm wrastlin' with this material today.

I've been playing off and on (and not exactly seriously) since teaching myself ~15yrs ago. I have basic theory knowledge but never applied it to guitar, just got used to playing "what sounded good" and picking up patterns I could use. This course made it very simple. Conceptually, it's all very easy. Now I just need to put in the time to get it down in my fingers so I can use it easily. Great stuff, already looking forward to your next course.

Overall a great experience and tons of material to practice on and at an amazing price. The only thing I believe can be done better is that I think that after the lesson no.5 the difficulty spikes a bit so, Tray, you could split this in like 3 different lessons (one for the minor, one for the melodic and one for the diminished scales) so it's easier for us noobs to understand and remember!

Ive been "playing" guitar for years now. Writing tons of content, but always struggling my way around the neck for that lead. I could hear what I wanted, but would struggling to find that sound. After the 3rd lesson, I recorded a 4 chord progression, and played a satisfying lead within 30 seconds. I know, claims like this is nuts, but if you follow his instruction, and really put in the time to master the "mini shapes" this course will work!

I have been playing many years and know the CAGED system well. But this master pattern is musically agnostic and allows you to very quickly see the connections between all the other scale patterns and intervals. It is the glue that holds all the other stuff together. Very cool approach. I would like more in a part 2 so that we can apply in musical contexts. Because I already have some knowledge I can see its power to unlock the neck. But it is not the whole story. Still a great place to start and you have no excuse for ever getting stuck in a 'box' again!

The course and the instructor’s explanations are clear and simple!...I experienced the “Ahh-ha!..or “the light-bulb is on!” moment of understanding! I recommend this course as a must have! LAMAXX

At first the novelty of the shapes that Trey lays out had me feeling like I stumbled across the goldmine. But there isn't any musical application or theoretical understanding delivered. Ultimately by the end you'll end up memorizing patterns and positions just like Trey says you won't need to do after using the course. There was supposed to be a part two that addresses pentatonic scales which are surprising lacking from this material and hopefully how to apply scales to musical concepts, but after well over a year of waiting for that content it seems that Trey has abandoned delivering it.

Always liked Trey's content online (GEAR GODS). When I saw this course, I was on it instantly. I had these ideas years back and never went forward with it because it is a good amount of work to lay out. I stuck with traditional diagrams, which work but... Thank you for taking the time to build your system Trey. I like everything about the way it is laid out, colors & coding and the fact that you did extended range was a huge bonus as I mainly stick to 7 & 8 string beasts. I hope to see more great offerings from you, Thanks again Trey!

This is hands down THE BEST course I've ever purchased. I never expected it to be this good. I've spent thousands of pounds on teachers, dvd's and all other sorts of things. Spent months memorising scales, and theory always to find myself lost when I actually needed to improvise, and reverting to the good old shape 1 pentatonic. If you've been playing guitar for say more than a couple of years I can guarantee that after 1 hour you will see results. Also, the guy actually responds to questions when we post them. Trey please do one for arpeggios and how to use them!

I have just completed 3 sessions and I already feel like I know my fretboard, Learning Modes was one thing I never understood even after watching umpteen number of YouTube videos. Here, he cracked the code and my playing has moved out from just playing pentatonics .. worth every penny .. I got this at a great offer even though this course is very reasonable without discount. I can't believe already how much more a better guitar player I am gonna become by the time I finish the course and apply them all to my playing. So, if you ask me ... I would say, close your eyes and pick this up, you won't regret. Love from, TJ (Bangalore-India)
