Our take
Based on the ratings of 923 students and a sample of their written reviews, as the course stood in June 2024. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a practice question bank for the AWS Data Analytics Specialty DAS-C01 exam, written by Stephane Maarek and Abhishek Singh. The headline promises 75 questions, all written from scratch. It is built as a companion to Maarek's main Data Analytics course, not a way to learn the material cold. About 10,200 students have enrolled, and it was last updated in June 2024. The title carries a retired tag, so check that the DAS-C01 exam can still be booked before buying.
Reviewers mostly like the questions. Two say they run a bit harder than the real exam, and one reports 72 percent here against 89 percent on the actual test. Another calls the coverage broad and mostly up to date. Quite a few passed after pairing it with Maarek's course. Every question explains both the correct and the wrong options. One student finds that valuable, while another finds it too long. The complaints are about quantity: reviewers say one test is thin, and one flagged two answers as wrong.
Of 923 ratings, 849 are four or five stars, and the average is 4.7. The weak spot is value. One low review says the amount of material does not match the price, since other sites offer more practice papers. We'd treat it as one extra check on top of a full course, not as your whole prep. It suits Maarek's own students who want a hard last run, but it is not enough on its own.
Pros
- Questions run slightly harder than the real exam, per two reviewers
- Each answer explains why the right option works and why the others fail
- Written by Stephane Maarek and Abhishek Singh as a match for his main DAS-C01 course
- Many reviewers report passing after using it with Maarek's course
Cons
- Reviewers say there is only one real test, which feels thin for the cost
- One reviewer finds the explanations too long and not to the point
- One reviewer flagged two answers as wrong, citing AWS documentation
Very good question set. Completely aligned with the nature of questions asked in the actual exam.
Listed as intermediate. It assumes the DAS-C01 topics are already covered, ideally through Maarek's own course.

SAMPLE QUESTION:
A credit card company is looking for a solution that detects anomalies in order to identify fraudulent transactions. The company utilizes Amazon Kinesis to transfer JSON-formatted transaction records from its on-premises database to Amazon S3. The existing dataset comprises 100-column wide records for each transaction. To identify fraudulent transactions, the solution needs to analyze just ten of these columns.
As an AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialist, which of the following would you suggest as the lowest-cost solution that needs the least development work and offers out-of-the-box anomaly detection functionality?
Leverage Kinesis Data Analytics to detect anomalies on a data stream from Kinesis Streams by running SQL queries which compute an anomaly score for all transactions and then store all fraudulent transactions in Amazon S3. Use Amazon QuickSight to visualize the results from Amazon S3
Transform the data from JSON format to Apache Parquet format using an AWS Glue job. Configure AWS Glue crawlers to discover the schema and build the AWS Glue Data Catalog. Leverage Amazon SageMaker to build an anomaly detection model that can detect fraudulent transactions by ingesting data directly from Amazon S3
Leverage Kinesis Data Firehose to detect anomalies on a data stream from Kinesis Streams via a Lambda function which computes an anomaly score for all transactions and stores all fraudulent transactions in Amazon RDS. Use Amazon QuickSight to visualize the results from RDS
Transform the data from JSON format to Apache Parquet format using an AWS Glue job. Configure AWS Glue crawlers to discover the schema and build the AWS Glue Data Catalog. Leverage Amazon Athena to create a table with a subset of columns. Set up Amazon QuickSight for visual analysis of the data and identify fraudulent transactions using QuickSight's built-in machine learning-powered anomaly detection
What's your guess? Scroll below for the answer...
Correct: 2.
For the given use case, you can use an AWS Glue job to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from the data source (in JSON format) to the data target (in Parquet format). You can then use an AWS Glue crawler, which is a program that connects to a data store (source or target) such as Amazon S3, progresses through a prioritized list of classifiers to determine the schema for your data, and then creates metadata tables in the AWS Glue Data Catalog.

Amazon Athena is an interactive query service that makes it easy to analyze data directly in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) using standard SQL. Athena is serverless, so there is no infrastructure to set up or manage, and you pay only for the queries you run, thereby making this solution really low cost. You can also use Athena to build a table with only the subset of columns that are required for downstream analysis.
Finally, you can read the data in the given Athena table via Amazon QuickSight to identify fraudulent transactions using QuickSight's built-in machine learning-powered anomaly detection. QuickSight uses proven Amazon technology to continuously run ML-powered anomaly detection across millions of metrics to discover hidden trends and outliers in your data. This anomaly detection enables you to get deep insights that are often buried in the aggregates and not scalable with manual analysis. With ML-powered anomaly detection, you can find outliers in your data without the need for manual analysis, custom development, or ML domain expertise.
Incorrect options:
Leverage Kinesis Data Analytics to detect anomalies on a data stream from Kinesis Streams by running SQL queries which compute an anomaly score for all transactions and then store all fraudulent transactions in Amazon S3. Use Amazon QuickSight to visualize the results from Amazon S3 - Using Kinesis Data Analytics involves some custom query development to analyze the incoming data to compute an anomaly score for all transactions. In addition, this solution processes all columns of the data instead of just the subset of columns required for the analysis. Therefore, this option is not the best fit for the given use case.

as usual, awesome content. The questions were slightly harder than the exam, which is what you'd like in such a test. Good breath of coverage, and mostly up to date.

two answers on the test were not correct. You cannot connect quicksight to a redshift instance across regions with just a security group. You can ingest from streams directly into Redshift. https://repost.aws/knowledge-center/quicksight-redshift-private-connection https://docs.aws.amazon.com/redshift/latest/dg/materialized-view-streaming-ingestion.html

The detailed problem explanations were truly valuable. Every question had explanations for both the correct and incorrect answers. However, some students found the detailed explanations uncomfortable when reviewing. Of course, I don't think this course's explanation style is the problem itself. The explanations in the course are broadly divided into two parts. The first part provides explanations about the concepts used in the questions, while the second part offers explanations for both the correct and incorrect answers. For those who don't need detailed explanations, I believe starting from the end and working backward would make it easier to understand.

I passed the Data Analytics Certification exam, These Practice tests were immensely helpful, got similar questions in the actual exam. The explanations and link with the answers were great, go through all of them and you can crack the exam. A big thumbs up for Stephane again :)

I passed the exam with the help of this course. It helped me a lot. Thanks Stephane and Frank for explaining things clearly. You guys are awesome. I recommend this course to others who are preparing for AWS Data Analytics certification exam.

Amazing questions with super amazing explanations. Would recommend everyone to go through each and every questions and their solutions. I cleared the exam yesterday and believe me, I saw atleast 10-15 questions staight away from this course. Just go for it.

Good questions and awesome explanations. The practice tests definitely helped me to pass the certification. One comment for those wondering, I found the actual exam being easier then this practice test. Namely, the question in the real exam were shorter with shorter answers. There were only few long questions that required considerable re-reads.

This test really strikes the core foundations of the AWS Services and things we generally look for or should look for when designing pipelines. The course for teaching this certification sadly lacks that amount of depth. To the very least I would like these error handling strategies for each service and major design principles should be taught to save the consumer from going through the lengthy and difficult white papers and vast sea of amazon documentation.

Liked the way how questionaries' are built and most importantly the explanations are given so in detail. Thank you very much for the work you guys put in to prepare us for the final day, I really hope I would clear the exam.

I passed the Data Analytics Certification. This course contributed in no small part towards passing the exam. I have learned much from Stephane's courses, for this and other AWS certification.
