RHCSA Exam Training by Infinite Skills (Udemy.com)

A detailed course that covers the requirements for passing the Red Hat Certified System Administrator ( Exam EX200 )

Created by: Infinite Skills

Last updated July 2017

Our take

Based on the ratings of 1,187 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in July 2017. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is Infinite Skills' 6.7-hour walkthrough of Red Hat Enterprise Linux basics: users, the shell, storage, servers, virtual machines, and security, built around the EX200 exam. The course was last updated in 2017 and the syllabus shows its age. It fits best as a first pass for someone new to Red Hat who wants plain explanations of core commands, not as a stand-alone exam prep for RHCSA today.

Reviewers consistently praise the instructor's clear, well-paced voice, one reviewer says they sped playback up to 2x and still followed along fine. But the same reviews keep flagging one problem: much of the material was built for RHEL 6 and never fully reworked for RHEL 7, topics like firewalld and current repos are only lightly touched, and more than one student who actually sat the exam says the course did not prepare them enough to pass.

With a 4.4 average from nearly 1,200 ratings, most students come away satisfied, but the one and two star reviews are pointed: outdated content, thin coverage of newer topics, one reviewer calling the course title misleading for what it delivers. Treat it as a gentle introduction to Red Hat concepts, paired with current documentation or a dedicated EX200 guide, not as the only thing you study from.

Best forIT beginners who want a plain-English first tour of RHCSA topics before a full study guide
Skip it ifYou need current RHEL 7 or 8 material in one course that fully preps you for EX200

Pros

  • Instructor's clear, well-paced narration gets praised again and again
  • Covers the full RHCSA syllabus: users, shell, storage, servers, VMs, security
  • Short at 6.7 hours across 101 lectures, easy to finish in a weekend

Cons

  • Not updated since 2017; a lot of the content still reflects RHEL 6, not 7 or 8
  • Several students who sat the actual exam say it did not fully prepare them
  • Newer topics like firewalld and current repos are only lightly touched
A decent course. I knew most of this material already but it was a good way to get ready for the certification exam and learn about a few things I've not used much.

Listed as All Levels but works best as a first pass for RHEL newcomers, not a stand-alone exam guide

I've been working in a Linux environment for about five years and have become comfortable enough to want to pursue some certifications. This course offered me some basics to build on my current knowledge with some things I had already known. The material covered in this course gives you the main test criteria that you can take and delve deeper into.

Yes, instructor does a great job of explaining. Very clearly spoken. Well articulated and easy to follow. I was able to even speed up the video to 2x and still not miss anything. I did slow it to 1.5 in the later videos as the subjects weren't as familiar. Great job overall!

The introduction of the course was filled with lots of interesting topics one looks forward to learning but as the lesson goes on, it becomes just plain and not in depth. The instructor knows the class very well but he seems to be breezing through the lessons. Moving further into the lessons, reveals lot of interesting topics and the instructor is getting more detailed but yet like I had anticipated.

The instructor is very knowledgeable and the contents are straightforward and useful. Going through these lectures is a good overview and a great way to get your feet wet in what the RHCSA is all about. Do not rely on these lectures solely for the test, however, because there are much more details that are not covered. The RHCSA book from Mc Graw Hill (Michael jang) claims to not be a replacement for the actual course offered from Red Hat, but it covers a ton more details than this video course. If you find yourself in a pinch or find it hard to focus, I highly recommend this course. The instructor is engaging and presents clear and concise pointers throughout the entire RHCSA course outline. Again, the details provided here are limited and you must still find other materials to fill in your knowledge gap.

Good material and information. Though I wouldn't advise anyone who doesn't already have some experience in Linux to take this course, as it is mostly like reviewing (a resume of what you are supposed to already know). If you're very new to Linux, start with something else more basic then merge into this course here. Also the instructor moves too fast with the mouse and keyboard's strokes. Other than that, it is good !

I PASSED THE RHCSA! With the help of this video series and certdepot.net, I was able to pass the RHCSA with a score of 250/300. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who wants to get the certification or learn more about RHEL/CentOS 7

I am learning at incredible pace using this course. It is like a glue for all the puzzles I had and much more. If someone is interested in becoming Linux Admin or just learning Linux, this course is great or should I say a must. Thank you

By Scott M Keister on 3/18/2016

good overview of Linux. The instructor moves through the lectures and topics quickly. This is a good overview for seasoned unix admins who are looking for a good overview on red hat Linux. I have been using Solaris for years and wanted to get an overview of Red Hat Linux. This training class was perfect....

The course it's OK, as it goes thru a lot of topics. I think the teacher needs to be more interesting, he uses the same voice tone/volume almost all the way thru the lessons and so I got bored some times. Some topics would need to get a deeper approach as they are not such easy to understand. And when so many flags are used in some commands, a deeper explanation would be helpful as well. Other think I missed is some preparation exam explained maybe. I think it's a good approach to start preparing the RHCSA but not enough to take the exam just with it. I'll have to take other courses / read some books.

The course is great and will teach a lot of the tools necessary to administrate a Red Hat / CentOS environment. There we're some things that were just demonstrated way too fast with out enough explanation such as storage management and iptables. Some lessons were in the wrong order. I can however recommend this course if you want to learn to operate RHEL, and be familiar with unix. I can't comment on the actual certification as I have not taken it.
