Course Description
ROS is a robotic middleware which offers a collection of packages for commonly used functionality, low level control, hardware abstraction and message passing.
ROS is all you need to transition from a hobbyist to a professional developer in the robotics domain! ROS is currently being used by hundreds of universities and tech start-ups around the world.
ROS powers a huge number of wheeled mobile robots, manipulators, aerial vehicles and much more! Basically, any kind of robot can be integrated to run with ROS. Research & Development is not the only place where ROS plays a major role. In real products, ROS has been successfully deployed in hundreds of robots. The current list of companies using ROS includes major players like Segway, ABB, Clearpath Robotics etc. and is growing every day!
This course covers the basics of ROS. It introduces you to the world of professional robotics programming! You will learn the tools and services that the ROS ecosystem offers in a structured and power-packed manner. If you master the content presented in this course, there is nothing to stop you from learning to program and use ANY robot that runs the ROS core libraries. It can be integrated with popular computer vision libraries like OpenCV and Deep Learning frameworks like Tensorflow, Caffe, perception library like PCL and motion planning library like MoveIt!
What this course doesn't cover:
- Robotics concepts
- Algorithms for planning, perception etc. We won't dive deeply into what kind of algorithms are implemented in each of the ros libraries
- Robotics hardware
The basics of ROS is already presented in the course. You can expect new content to be added regularly! This will include
- GUI tools
- URDF, TF
- Using pose estimation, localization and navigation libraries
- Model a robot using a 3D design software and export it for usage in ROS
- Simulation of a robot model in a real physics environment using Gazebo, vrep etc
- Visualize a robot's states like velocity, position, sensory information using rviz

Relied heavily on help from MS Copilot in installing & configuring older VM distro & troubleshooting lessons. The only thing we couldn't match was varying versions of rqt graph. However, I did enjoy using bag files & look forward to the ROS2 equivalent in some of the courses I purchased with fancier, more sophisticated robots!!!

Perhaps more advanced than a "Basic" course should be. I am glad I had some python programming experience, if I had not I would not have been able to follow without an immense about of figuring stuff out. As it was, it was still difficult due to my limited programming experience.

It is very helpful for absolute beginner. ROS is important framework for robotics. Be sure to implement the stuff along with Instructor. You can also make persistent bootable usb for ubuntu and install ros on it. Little bit of space crunch, with 8gb one for full desktop mode of ROS. Works nontheless but will be better if you use 16gb one.

A very concise and rapid introduction to the basis of ROS including practical working examples. The course doesn't have any pre-requisites and covers even the installation etc required. Overall, it is self-contained. I'd have preferred to have some more conceptual content including, like the ROS architecture and types. Also a demo or two or larger-scale ROS networks in operation (even if it increases the duration of the course) would have been very helpful.

A really good guide for the installation and creation of the workspace and packages, it would be nice to include a real world example using something like ROS development studio. Sometimes it wasn't comfortable to stop the video because he writes commands really fast. I'd recommend this course to any person who wants to learn the basics to program robots with ROS

The course gives the basic concepts of ROS fundamentals in order to get familiar with the ROS environment: ros commands, make ros node let, compile and run services, communication between services. It would be nice thought to add some more practical applications and give more details on the simulation environment.

This was a great course. Like others have mentioned I too found myself going back 15 seconds over and over. I had to do this to see the code and commands the instructor was typing. On one hand this pace helps breeze through a refresher when you have already learned the topic but the first time through is difficult. 4 minutes of instruction can take 30 minutes or even an hour or more to fully complete the examples by the time you go back over and over. After i completed the examples I found myself watching each instruction again to understand the bits and pieces of information that he shared after I was able to capture the commands and code. Overall it was slightly frustrating having to go back but I would sign up for another course if he had one. It was ell organized and he was clear and easy to understand (most of the time).

There is a tremendous amount of material in very little time! Thank goodness for the Pause and 15 second rewind. I would find it helpful if there was a transcript of the commands so that I would not need to rewind so often. Some commands are viable for only a few moments. One must be fast on the Pause. Thank you, I Loved the Course!

By far the best beginner course I have ever stumbled upon. First time someone answers all your beginner questions before you ask and answers them simply and on an elegant example. Respect!

This course gives a good start to learning ROS. It gets you setup running ROS in a VM and teaches you many of the ROS fundamentals. You also get to create Python scripts to use within ROS such as Publish and Subscribe scripts, among others. I learned and a lot! Please make a second course so I can continue to learn more ROS.
