SDET/Test Architect Essentials -Road to Full stack QA (Udemy.com)

Advanced Tutorial to Learn essential skills needed to transform your career from QA Engineer to SDET/Test Architect

Created by: QA Click Academy

Last updated April 2021

Our take

Based on the ratings of 3,395 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in April 2021. No course pays to be reviewed.

The course is a set of add-on modules for people who already write Selenium tests in Java with TestNG. The syllabus shows 15 sections and 74 lectures, about 13 hours in all. Topics include JDBC results into POJOs, Jackson, Docker with Selenium Grid, batch scripts and log monitoring, Jenkins pipelines, Excel data providers, Java streams and Git. It is a tour of the tools around a framework, not a build of one. The only stated requirement is basic Java, Selenium and TestNG, and that is realistic.

Reviewers like Rahul Shetty's teaching. They call it thorough and enthusiastic, with real-world scenarios that connect theory to practice, and several say it made the SDET role feel reachable. Most of the 3,395 ratings are four or five stars. The complaints are specific, though. Docker Desktop needed a Windows Pro license and the course never said so. One reviewer found the POJO and Jackson sections stretched, another found the content too high level for real SDET work, and one wanted a single project built from scratch. The Data Structures section is still listed as upcoming, with a single lecture and no running time.

The last update was April 2021, so check the tool versions before relying on it for current work. With 27,604 students, it has clearly found an audience. We would treat it as a survey that shows what an SDET is expected to know, then follow up with dedicated courses on whichever tool matters most at your job. As a starting map it is good. As the only course you take on any one of these tools, it is thin.

Best forSelenium and TestNG testers who want a first look at Docker, Jenkins pipelines, Git and Java streams in one place.
Skip it ifYou want one end to end project, deep Jenkins or Docker work, or you run Windows Home.

Pros

  • Puts Docker with Selenium Grid, Jenkins pipelines, Jackson and Git into one 13-hour course
  • Reviewers praise thorough, enthusiastic teaching built around real-world scenarios
  • Rated 4.7 from 3,395 ratings, with most of the sample at four or five stars
  • Asks only for basic Java, Selenium and TestNG before you start

Cons

  • Docker Desktop needs a Windows Pro license, and the course never says so upfront
  • Last updated April 2021, and the Data Structures section is still listed as upcoming with no content
  • More overview than depth: no end to end project, and some find it too high level
I enjoyed taking this course. Rahul provided hands-on examples for several valuable tools (e.g. Docker, Selenium Grid, JDBC, git).

Listed as All Levels, but the requirements assume some Java, Selenium and TestNG already.

A quick walkthrough of good concepts Docker, Grid, Jenkins and general utility programs. Good to have this course who just have started role as SDET and if you don't know the concepts of CI/CD pipeline.

This is very nice course to see what is waiting us on the road of SDET role. Some parts are incomplete as I see but anyway, good point to start. Course Content is definitely needs a lot of time and practice to accomplish. 13 hours just the beginning! Thank you Rahul.

By Anonymized User on 6/28/2024

This course is an excellent choice for those individuals who want to ensure that they get a solid basic foundation related to what is needed for test automation. Learning new concepts about Jenkins, Git, and other utilities helps solidify a much more well-rounded understanding of what is required to take testing to a whole new level!

By Charles Wesley on 4/9/2023

I enjoyed taking this course. Rahul provided hands-on examples for several valuable tools (e.g. Docker, Selenium Grid, JDBC, git). Though some of the concepts were discussed in some of his other courses it was a good review. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking for an introduction to advanced concepts used by test architects or SDETs.
