Course Description

Ready to master Solana blockchain development? You've come to the right place!

Blockchain technology is the most disruptive force in years, and amongst the various blockchains is the shining star that is Solana. It's faster, cheaper, and better for the environment than both Bitcoin and Ethereum. These factors mean Solana is growing exponentially despite being so new, and make it likely to reach mass adoption.

Large tech companies and start-ups alike cannot hire developers who understand blockchain technologies fast enough, but there are so few resources published to help you truly understand what blockchains are used for, let alone build apps with them.

That's the purpose of this course: to be the best resource online for learning about Solana, the blockchain, and how to build apps with these cutting-edge technologies.

By the end of this course, you’ll:

  • Be an expert Solana and Web3 developer

  • Be proficient at creating your own decentralised applications from scratch

  • Make millions from NFTs? Build a decentralised version of Uber? Create your own bank? Up to you!

In this course you'll cover:

  • What the Solana blockchain is, how it works, and why it's so incredible

  • Deep dive into Solana development using Rust, JavaScript, and the command line

  • Full projects that will solidify your skills in DeFi (decentralised finance), NFTs (non-fungible tokens), dapps (decentralised apps), Web3, and more

If you want to take advantage of the cutting-edge Solana blockchain while it’s still new and rapidly growing, this course is for you. All you need is beginner level programming experience.

What is Solana?

Solana is a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin or Ethereum. What differentiates it from the rest it is its speed, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendliness, and these make Solana poised to overtake both Bitcoin and Ethereum in popularity and adoption. What's more, is that Solana makes it easy for developers like you to create decentralised applications focused on transferring value from one party to another. It even supports *programs* which are pieces of code that run on the blockchain, and which can replace your bank/real estate agency/ticket selling company/accountant/witch doctor.

Hi, I'm Arjun!

I'm an Australian software engineer with over a decade of experience. Ever since I was in high school, I've had a knack for learning about and becoming an expert on cutting-edge technologies. My skills and passion for software development have taken me all around the world, and I've worked at Apple, Pebble, and Canva.

I specialise in blockchain and frontend engineering, and since 2019 I've been providing consulting services to multinational companies regarding Web3, decentralised applications (dapps), and cyber security.

And I can't wait to share my knowledge with you!

The course is very good, it worth, the explanations and examples are clear, however, I had a lot of difficulty during the environment setup (WSL on Windows 10). With each installation there was an error, which I only managed to fix by articles and forums outside. It is part of the developer career, but still, I believe that this course requires updating and especially a session dedicated to setup.

Here are the major drawbacks that I encountered during the course: - Incomplete Code Availability: One of the fundamental issues with this course is the unavailability of all the code demonstrated. The course promotes hands-on learning by showcasing various code snippets, but a significant portion of the code is mysteriously missing from the provided resources. This lack of completeness hampers the learning experience, leaving students frustrated and struggling to follow along. - Lack of Explanation for Key Parameters: The teacher's approach to explaining crucial parameters, such as 'signers' in the code, is deeply flawed. Instead of providing clear and comprehensive explanations, the instructor tends to gloss over these key elements, assuming a level of understanding that may not be present among all students. This results in confusion and makes it difficult for learners to grasp the significance of these parameters in the context of Rust and Solana development. - Questionable Proficiency in Rust & Solana: Perhaps the most concerning aspect of the course is the apparent disparity in the instructor's knowledge between React and Rust/Solana. It becomes evident through the lectures that the teacher is more adept at React, leading to a questionable depth of understanding when it comes to Rust and Solana. This imbalance raises doubts about the instructor's ability to provide a comprehensive and accurate learning experience in these specific technologies. In conclusion, this course falls short of its promises, offering an incomplete and confusing learning journey. I would strongly advise prospective learners to consider alternative options that provide a more coherent and complete educational experience in Rust and Solana development.

Course gave me some idea about how great blockchain technology is especially combined with arweave and chainlink but I prefer a more defined structure as a whole. It was split as separate blocks, so one could do only one section and have everything there but for people doing the whole thing top to bottom it led to repetitiveness and explaining some things while leaving others not covered. The course wasn't updated for quite a while, a lot of methods are now obsolete and require further research which beats the purpose of a course. I missed resources attached for every lecture. I find that a good practice in other courses, where teachers create separate branches for each lecture which makes it easy to pick up the work from or compare the files at a certain step.

It is very good for foundational learning but anything more you need to dive deep inside anchor toolchain and rust. Also I would recommend adding stuff that is very important like: - How to do Cross Program Invocations. - How to airdrop test sol using Javascript. - How to do instruction chaining. - How to create NFTs without using candy cli. - How to interract with NFTs. - Explanation about PDAs. - PDA use cases. - Importing IDLs. - More explanation about manual instructions. Granted I landed a freelance gig just from the info from this job but if you actually expanded the information this would become a beginner to expert course instead of just being beginner only.

Learned a lot very quickly. Would recommend for people who already have a background with programming. Biggest things that I would like to see from the instructor is an explanation of what functions/variables we are defining ourselves versus which ones are already defined via library etc. That's something that helps me learn a lot especially when exposed to a new language. Other than that, I am very happy with how much I have learned and how well the instructor walks us through the content.

Great speaker, a lot of interesing information. But actually in 2022 a lot of changes was made in Anchor and React, so some code doesn't work. So it takes a lot of time sometimes to find and fix these uncompatible isses.

I really enjoyed the course. I would have loved some more testing and insight on a few steps, like the Rust macros, anchor and so on. Nevertheless, a really good course with state of the art content. Keep up the good work Arjun!

Kudos to Instructor Arjun for helping us navigate the craziness of Devnets going down and the rapidly changing 3rd party libraries. Really appreciated the addition of the Chainlink integration section to keep things current and fresh. Looking forward to more from this instructor.

This was a really good course! Arjun is incredibly proficient in his work, and when queried in the questions he provides meaningful answers. The course is short, so it speeds through concepts quite quickly. This course is an implementation guide and does not stress the theory of either Rust or Solana. This is good in many ways as it gets to the point. Those looking for a deeper dive into Rust should do a Rust-specific course. Very happy overall.

I was stuck in testing. It was giving errors so I stopped practicing and started to watch the course. So that may I get some help after some videos. Course is good. There are some problems I faced during installation. And some commands not running. Like in testing the Teacher was running JS files with TS Mocha, which was running fine on his computer but not fine on mine. So please provide that tutorial in either JS or TS but do not MIX Them. Also in smart contract. I do not know tests were running in dev net or localhost. please tell.
